Ask Sony circa 2000. They seemed to have an alright time of it back then, wouldn't you agree?
From the operating results PDF:
"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed NX with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally."
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2016/160427e.pdf
I still can't believe people are doubting NX comes this Holiday (November 18, 2016). I'll eat a dick if it doesn't come true.
What are you going to play Zelda NX on? Your PC? lol
Everyone who is a dedicated gaming site. E3 attracts companies like Forbes, WSJ, Time, and various other publications that still have a pretty high viewership in the non-gaming world. That PR is valuable.
Yeah, shame on them for having a president who died in the middle of several major corporate restructuring projects. SHAME.
So essentially...
When people said "wait for Space World" it's actually true?
And nobody would cover a Nintendo NX reveal event?Everyone who is (maybe) a dedicated gaming site. E3 attracts companies like Forbes, WSJ, Time, and various other publications that still have a pretty high viewership in the non-gaming world. That PR is valuable. I rarely (and for a few of them have never) see those companies post articles about Nintendo Directs.
Ask Sony circa 2000. They seemed to have an alright time of it back then, wouldn't you agree? And we might also want to ask Sony circa 2017, if the rumours regarding their next hardware pan out the same way.
Bon appétit!
Ill keep repeating myself.
The NX will be the base of their business for the next 10 years. If it isn't ready, it isn't ready.
Why do people keep putting everything into E3, like it's the only way to announce hardware or games.
It's the same silly mentality when they announced no more stage shows. They will have no presence at E3! They are giving up!

Wii U's year round sales have been absolutely dreadful. Why not at least give NX a good start by releasing near the biggest money spending season of the year? March release is shooting themselves in the foot.I'm not actually sure that traditional retail wisdom is exactly accurate anymore? People buy things they want year-round now.
That could be, yes. I mean, they could use all the assets from Pikmin 3 and just create some new locations and a couple of new features here and there and call it done. Just like they did with Mario Galaxy 2.
Worst thing for me regarding today's news isn't the delay, it's that E3 as a thing is pretty much over for Nintendo.
Welcome to the fold, we can all reminisce together. The end of the Wii was the stab, and the Wii U was just the twist. Nintendo continually says "please understand" and makes mistake after mistake, with no regard for their consumers whatsoever. Then you look at how Sony handled the PS4 and that was genius. You can see why PS people were happy and felt loved.
Why does that seem right? 3 months after Christmas is insane. Not many people and especially parents are going to drop the $ to invest in a new system 3 months after the holidays. Who else other than hardcore N fans are going to buy at that time?
Why do you do this? I was already depressed, now I want to cry, being a Nintendo fan has never been more depressingI don't even know why I should watch E3 this year, no NX, everything great shown for PS4 will likely run on PS4K which I won't buy, and XB1 games will be better on Win 10 which I don't want to install because of the crappy legacy games compatibility.
(
e3's starting to look over in a more general sense this year.
If Nintendo can;t launch the thing weeks around a Black Friday window, then there is really not much point to release it in the Christmas season. But to answer your question, it never seemed feasible to me that Nintendo could have a line up of games ready and manufacturing in place to release the NX this year. But March is the start of Nintendo's fiscal year for 2017, so to me it always seemed like a likely release window for a new console.
I didn't mean that to come across as negative, honestly.
I'm just having a hard time imagining a new home console and a new Zelda launching in March. The holidays are so crucial for Nintendo.
I mean, that was a long time ago and in only one territory.
It was also coming hot off the heels of an insanely successful platform.
NX better be some proper next gen level shit.
It wouldn't be that way if the Wii U was a healthy platform.
I'm not actually sure that traditional retail wisdom is exactly accurate anymore? People buy things they want year-round now.
A console only with code name have a launch date, uncharted territory.
Yeah I've been thinking this, but maybe Nintendo is actually focusing a lot on Japan, and maybe even only Japan, this time? I'm thinking Fire Emblem, AC and Splatoon told them something
console sales are massively skewed towards holidays in the US. I assume it is similar in Europe & Canada.
Terrell what are your thoughts on the whole situation?
You were like one of the few Gaffers that predicted the Wii was going to dominate back in the day, so I'm curious for your input.

I believe March is the end of the fiscal year actually.
To the people saying that it's okay for them to miss E3, with the potential for a blow out on PSVR, PS4K and even an Xbox 1.5 as well as tonnes of new big games, the eyes of thousands if not millions of the exact demographic Nintendo needs to sell NX to will be watching.

Immmm... those publications cover Nintendo Directs and E3 Digital Events, too.
Yup.e3's starting to look over in a more general sense this year.
Whoops, so when does the new fiscal year start? April 1st?
That demographic considers Nintendo games to be for toddlers, and has for nearly twenty years. They have never been able to sell to them.
If you ask me, the NX is going to try to regain the audience the Wii had. It's really all they can hope for at this point.
