NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Sell decently to who? The same people that made the wii u a sales disaster?

Zelda sells, even the ports. Everyone claims they don't want anymore ports but TPHD made the NPD charts last month. They need their biggest hitters and their latest successes on the front lines for more mindshare alongside new titles.

TP on Wii was also a huge success at launch as well.

Yup, let's try to get people interested at us with a main Zelda on home console (and a main Pokémon on handled, which won't be even playable).

That's two E3 with few or very few games.

Announcing the release date before we even know the concept behind it and the line-up, that's pretty cool.

Also, when will be the reveal event ? Not June, it would be weird in the middle of the summer or at gamescom, they may have a window between september and october, and after that it's holidays, big AAA and we're too close to the launch date they gave.

Lol. Get out of here with this. The mainstream aren't going to be buying a new console in March. Parents arent going to buy a new console in March. The core gaming audience will be busy with VR. That leaves the Nintendo fans who will still buy day one, though I imagine those will be dwindling with how bad Nintendo is burning their fan base with wii u this year.

They need everyone to buy this console at a time when they have money to spend, that is not in March.

March and April though are popular months to release video games, it probably now as big as October/November. So there must be some sort of general spending that companies see that makes them do that.

Right. Holiday season is the only time of the year this would work. Forget birthdays and other non-December holidays. They're shit. Everyone spends their life savings in November / December. Now, how exactly am I gonna drop a couple hundred dollars in March when that's three months after December?

Also, good call with noting that everyone will be busy with VR. If Nintendo launched NX alongside those same VR devices, they wouldn't have a problem at all. That only makes sense.
Non December holidays sell consoles? Wat??? Hopefully this is sarcasm but it's hard to tell in this thread.

Apparently birthdays and 4th of July is where it's at, lol.

Video games sure, but consoles? I'm not so sure about that, at all.

I want the NX to be successful, March release isn't going to help with that.

I wonder if the negativity would have lessened if they'd have told us when the NX would be unveiled, not just a "It won't be at E3".

Hope someone asks tomorrow, and we get something other than "we will announce that at a later date"

Wii U is a big fat mess. Sad!

Man, I can't believe they delayed the NX to 2017 and won't be showing the reveal at the event with the most visibility in the industry. You aren't instilling faith Nintendo.

What news to wake up to, wow. Remember when people were arguing whether they should do a Direct or an actual stage conference for the NX at E3? Well how about neither!

Ask Sony circa 2000. They seemed to have an alright time of it back then, wouldn't you agree? And we might also want to ask Sony circa 2017, if the rumours regarding their next hardware pan out the same way.

Yeah but Sony came in and stole the show because the existing incumbent was dogmatic and controlling and Sony offered developers the world. Nintendo is against two already established (one of them VERY MUCH) competitors.

You do realize that Sony and MS revealed their systems outside of E3 and invited the press to these events right?

And that was a year out, with the major showing at E3.

It's looking like people won't even know what the hell the NX even is until shortly before it's release date.

Again, it makes ZERO sense for the NX and it's games not to be at E3, unless something has gone very wrong.

Even if there was a tech problem like shortage of supplies, you would still show the NX at E3.

This makes me think it's either a gimmick problem, as in the games are struggling to implement the gimmick, like the Wii U, or the games simply don't exist or aren't there.

Again, why would you miss the largest gaming media event in the world? It makes no sense.

It's the, 'with a brand new concept' part that concerns me.

Just give us a great controller and some great games. We don't need new concepts of how to do gaming. We just need new great Nintendo games.

Motion control was ok, the second screen was ok ... neither really caught on outside their console. I hope they don't mess this up.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. The new concept can mean a new way to access your games, and it might not directly relate to the controller/input.

I think the issue is not having something at the e3 before launch. But with it not being out for xmas, I dont think it is a big deal. Seems like a lot of floor space for one game though.
Pretty much. It's obvious Nintendo doesn't want to be burried by other news, so they'll go with their own event.

I guess it is plausible that they would prefer people to get hands on with it rather than just the press. They got a bit of a kicking from the press didn't they with the Wii U?

But that is just speculative talking really.
Would be a gamble though. Interesting times.

Bro, you can find stupid fanboy shit on all sides. You can't wait to read stuff you know is shit, is equally fanboy levels of stupid.

The former fact won't make the upcoming excuses any less annoying. And I would have loved to read good news on NX and Nintendo perhaps demonstrating they might stop being delusional.

I think Big N wants to be on par with Sony and Microsoft this time around. I think it was a good choice to delay the NX, from a competitive standpoint since they have now at least 1 year to know more about PS4K/Xbone 1.5 and adjust the hardware to be on the same level.

Again, if you're going to keep saying how much of a mess Nintendo is, please for the love of god look at this thread and how Nintendo is organizing into a more western model giving their board of directors more power with a global focus. It's a huge shift for the company that will likely make them less insular like all the complaints I and many others have given about Nintendo.

It's brand new and comes from today's announcements.

Ooops, I meant Fall '95. It was released in '96. Gonna go edit that now.

Yeah, it was originally supposed to be Fall '95. The reasons it got pushed back were myriad, but they are very much things that make the N64 an exception.

I just think people freely assuming it'll get pushed from March in all regions are insane. At worst, it'll only launch in certain regions in March. They wouldn't announce March if they couldn't hit it, not with hardware. There's too much that goes into that type of planning. It's not as simple as delaying software.

I hope this means they fill the catalog with lots of virtual console releases on 3ds and wiiu, and hopefully a skyward sword HD on wiiu and mario galaxy HD collection.

They all seem like very low effort high impact types of projects to fill out the holidays.

I don't really care about delays at this point because I'm already overloaded with stuff to play just on wiiu alone not to mention 3ds.

What? You have to question a company that can't even get out a console that matches 3 year old tech.

NX better be significantly better then Xbox One PS4 or it's fucked.

You'll get to play the NX long after Hillary is President. Just think about that!

You mean Trump.

Why would be bother to watch nintendo e3, it's better that they don't append.

Also, leakers that are verified is maybe not a good word to use.

Maybe that their must be a new state something like "Official leaked", so i could ignore the rest :p

Still wonder what the mean with (not a replacement for 3ds or wiiu). they also this told us before, it's nothing new.
So wiiu will have a normal cyclus of +/- 5years, and even more, because nx wouldn't replace it

Is it a console?

We're getting advice here:
Because at this point mate, Nintendo wants the spotlight of the NX wholly to themselves, which is why they're holding their own separate event like the Nintendo World trade shows they've done before.

Which won't have the worlds media at it. unlike E3.

Also who even says there is going to be an event? I wouldn't be surprised they're just going to shit this thing out in another Direct.

Even Microsoft and Sony only used their events to announce the console, then piggy backed off the huge E3 hype. NX not at E3 again, says something in itself. The fact they are only going to have one game at E3 and not even show the premium NX version says something probably went wrong here.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. The new concept can mean a new way to access your games...

?

Apple has Handoff right now (play games on ipad then continue on mac or phone where you left off). Or theoretically vita/ps4 if they had stuff I wanted to play that didn't require me to spend $79 + $49 for the same game.

Or did you mean something else?

What delay? They never officially gave a date for the hardware release.
And even if holiday 16' was their initial target, a delay of a few months wouldn't be enough time to make any huge changes in the hardware.
