NXOE Monthly Updates |OT| OS features for the pre-season, games for the Holidays!

So Pins are apparently cached locally now, but my pins are gone right now. Odd...

Yeah, mine are there sometimes but not others today. Also unrelated to today's XBL issues, pin locations don't always seem to save. I can rearrange them, and then later I check and they've reverted back to before I moved them.

So, my "ready to install" list of apps and games is gone...

Anyone else have this issue? Can't access any games not already installed..

If anyone else is getting the black screen on Twitch, I found a workaround. Just click menu then "help" - it appears that for whatever reason, snapping it restores the image & audio to the stream. Hope this is fixed, since I spend more time than I'd like to admit on there.

The post for tonight's update:

CHANGES

**Please note that not all features below will be immediately available in the first build.

Brand new experiences:

Here’s what’s coming to Xbox One Preview.

• **Coming Soon** Purchase Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games on Xbox One: Fans have spent more than 30 million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One and so it’s natural that being able to purchase Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games on Xbox One ranks as one of your top requests. Coming soon in 1603, you’ll be able to do so! Find and purchase Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games the same way you would Xbox One titles and, once purchased, Xbox 360 Backward Compatible content will automatically download to your Xbox One and be ready to play!

• **Coming Soon** Include Party Chat in Twitch broadcasts: A top voted-for feature on Xbox Feedback, Xbox One Preview members will be able to broadcast Party Chat when using the Twitch app. If you are broadcasting from your console and in a party, you can invite other people to include their chat audio in your broadcast. If a member of your party declines, they’ll still be able to chat in the party; they just won’t be heard in the broadcast. Additionally, as the party leader, you have the option to mute a party member’s chat audio, even if they opted-in. You can also include party members on Windows 10 PCs in your Twitch broadcast.

• **Available Now** Output your Party Chat to headset and speakers simultaneously: Xbox One Preview members will be able to select their preference for where Party Chat audio is heard: their headset, speakers, or both. To do this, go to Settings – Display & Sounds – Volume.

• **Available Now** Customizable Game DVR recording length: Based on Xbox Feedback, it’s clear that fans want to be able to configure the length of their Game DVR recordings. Currently, Game DVR recording is fixed to a 30 second duration. With this update, Xbox One Preview members can adjust the recording length to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes or 5 minutes. To change the preferences, visit Settings – Preferences – Game DVR & streaming.

• **Available Now** Track Achievement progress in the Xbox One guide: We’re making it easier to access your Achievements by including them in the Xbox One guide. In the new Achievements area you’ll find a quick link to see all of your Achievements and you’ll be able to track your Achievement progress in real time directly in the guide, without having to snap a separate Achievements app.

• **Available Now** Video playback directly in the Xbox One Activity Feed: We’ve made improvements to video playback in the Xbox One Activity Feed. Xbox One Preview members will be able to play an entire video inline rather than having to leave their feed to launch it. You can even ‘like’ the video while previewing it by pressing X. Preview members will also enjoy new pause, restart, and full-screen playback options, when they do choose to launch a video from their Activity Feed.

Here’s what’s coming to the Xbox app (beta).

• Gamerscore Leaderboard: In the Xbox app (beta), fans will be able to enjoy the same Gamerscore Leaderboard feature introduced to Xbox One last month. Access the Gamerscore Leaderboard in the Xbox app (beta) by navigating to the Achievements section of your profile. See where you stand relative to your friends by comparing total Gamerscore, as well as the biggest gains over a rolling 30-day period. A Leaderboard for game stats will also be coming to the Xbox app (beta). Visit the Game Hub for a title with hero stats, click on Achievements and see how you stack up against your friends.

• Updated ‘Featured’ section: The ‘Featured’ gaming section below the ‘Recently played’ games area has been updated to spotlight games, deals, community events and more.

Here’s what’s coming to both Xbox One Preview and the Xbox app (beta) this month.

• **Available Now** 16-person Party Chat: Last fall, we expanded Party Chat to enable 12-person Parties on Xbox One and the Xbox app. This feature has been very popular with the community, so now we’re enabling 16-person Parties across both Xbox One Preview and the Xbox app (beta) starting today!

• **Coming Soon** Xbox 360 Achievements in Xbox One and Xbox app Activity Feeds: Starting this month for both Xbox One Preview and Xbox app (beta) participants, Xbox 360 Achievements will automatically post to your console and Windows 10 PC Activity Feeds. As with Xbox One game Achievements, the Xbox 360 Achievement graphic will feature a description of the Achievement, the game you earned it from, and the Gamerscore associated with it.

• **Coming Soon** Follow web links and YouTube videos from Game Hubs: Community managers of Game Hubs will now be able to populate Game Hubs with web and YouTube hyperlinks, making the Game Hubs experience even more interactive and engaging for gamers. For Xbox One Preview members, web links will display in a browser via the Edge app and YouTube links will open in the YouTube app. For the Xbox app (beta), links will open in your default web browser. As with any other item in your Activity Feed, you can caption, like, comment on, and share these links.

• **Available Now** Compare your Avatars: In Xbox One Preview shortly and releasing to the Xbox Avatars app later this month, you’ll be able to compare your Avatar with your friends’ Avatars. You can click through on a specific friend’s Avatar; preview their Avatar’s clothing, accessories and props on your Avatar; and also see how you can purchase or earn the items yourself. Using the ‘Compare Avatars’ feature will help you customize your Avatar leveraging the best of all your friends’ outfits! You can also compare your Avatar with anyone else’s in the Xbox Live community – just select ‘Compare Avatars’ when you are viewing another member’s profile.

• **Coming Soon** Reputation rating interface changes: The Xbox Live community is comprised overwhelmingly of players with positive reputations, and so, the vast majority of profiles are rated ‘good.’ As a result, we are changing our reputation interface to draw attention only to players who have been rated ‘needs work’ or ‘avoid me’. For Xbox One Preview and Xbox app (beta) members, ‘good’ players’ profiles will no longer feature a reputation gauge, however, gamers whose profiles are tagged ‘needs work’ or ‘avoid me’ will continue to feature the reputation flag.

Thank you again for helping us shape the Xbox experience. Please keep voting on Xbox Feedback for features that you want to see added or updated on both Xbox One and the Xbox app!

Updating now. I was hoping to browse the backwards compatible store, but it's not available yet. Seems like a great update all around though.

Feels snappy.

They fixed something that I requested : order snap by use, but alphabetical. That makes things easier to use.

Hide install list is broken? I hid something, but can't unhide now.

Achievements in guide is way better. It also shows how they have abandoned "unlocks" for apps.

Shit, the achievement guide replaced the "snap Achievements" app. Stop removing features I like, MS !

The new way is way better. Why do you want that clunky snap crap back?

Because it lets me see my progress on the different achievements in real time, without having to lose the focus to my gaming session. I'm certainly not going to trigger the guide every few seconds just to check if my last actions got me closer to unlocking an achievement.

It's still there, but the voice commands seem backwards to me. "Xbox snap achievements" takes me to the mini-guide achievements. "Xbox go to achievements" snaps the achievements app on the right.

Nice, crisis averted.^_^
Although the commands are counter intuitive indeed.
*edit - well I just tried the "go to" command and it launched the full screen app. I don't have time to find the right way to do it, but it's certainly confusing right now.

Ha, weird implementation but glad you can still do it then.

Probably because the last time I had it open I had it snapped. Using the controller to snap it through the menu might work.

Found something odd with the windows 10 app and streaming. My controller is synced to the Xbox, with the headset plugged into it. When I start streaming, my mic stops working but I still get game audio and hear party chat through the headphones plugged into the controller. I don't think this was happening before. I reported it, hopefully it gets fixed.

I like to stream to the app so I can capture gameplay without the need for a capture card, and keeping the controller and headset connected to the console instead of the PC app prevents the lag that the stream experiences.

Indeed, it does work that way. It would actually be fine if there was a "Xbox snap current app" voice command. But having the snappable apps sorted by last used when saying "Xbox snap" is close enough.
Funny thing is you can display the full-screen achievements/profile app, snap the small one next to it, and display the achievement guide over all of it (except that the latter won't display any achievement since it only does for active games)

That reminds me that I almost forgot to rant about the lack of Cortana. :p

Loving the new achievement section of the guide. This is how it should have been done to begin with. It was probably always in the plans but didn't make it in time.

What was the fix for when you are stuck on the green loading screen?

Oh, disregard. Finally loaded through after 6 minutes. The hell...?

So far I'm enjoying the new update.

I feel however, that having achievements in the Guide and as a snappable app is a bit of duplication. I assume that the Guide version is for the fastest possible access, whereas the snappable version is if you want to track an achievements progress as you play, but part of me can't help but think that this is the first step to dropping the snappable version entirely. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I'm glad they've included a way for us to view who is online a bit more clearly, however it now makes the "status dot" somewhat unnecessary. These could probably be dropped.

Finally, I'm really stoked that we can now make the "xbox record that" duration 5 minutes, 30 seconds simply isn't enough to capture some moments. I'd rather record more and then edit out footage that isn't needed, than to miss stuff.

All in all, the update is looking good.

I had that too and was about to pull the plug, when the home screen finally came up. 5 minute recordings, here I come.

Yea, my guide is faster as well. Nice improvements all around.
There's also this:
We already know that Redstone will launch in two waves, the first of which will be happening in June. This first update is being developed under the tag RS1, and according to my sources will focus mostly on the convergence of different Windows 10 devices such as PC, Xbox and Phone. RS1 will heavily concentrate on the Universal App Platform, bringing the Windows Store to Xbox One and introducing more Project Centennial and Islandwood apps to the Store.

There will also be a bigger focus on universal AAA video game titles between Xbox and PC, which is something we have already started seeing as of recently. In short, the Windows Store in RS1 aims to be a hub for all media-related content on the Windows platform, accessible from any Windows 10 device.
