NYC is flooded

Can't make the place smell any worse, can it?
Not familiar with what happens when sewers get flooded, huh? You might want to sit down for this one.

That said, I'm sure NYC's situation won't be as bad as what happens around these parts during monsoon floods. That and the worst smells I ever experienced in NYC were in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and were due to fucking animal waste from people just letting their dogs go anywhere they wanted.

A whole suburban street looks like this. Totally ravaged.

Do we have any reports of casualties?
On this street, reports are there are no deaths miraculously. Luckily in PA and NJ there haven't been many deaths from the tornadoes. One person I read died not from the tornado, but a tree falling on their home. I think most deaths are going to be drowning and from the flooding, honestly.

My old stomping grounds in Brooklyn seemed to get hit pretty hard;

Plenty of flooded basements and streets here in Queens. Fortunately, my block and apartment made it through relatively unscathed. I was fully expecting to see my car floating down the street when I went to check, based on what I was seeing on the internet. I can't recall that much rain coming down that fast, which is odd, because I thought the same exact thing when it rained here heavily the day before Henri was to hit.

Bosses are still like "you sure you can't come in?"

I had a boss like that when I worked at the mall in highschool. We had this huge fuck you blizzard come through and the roads were essentially blocked off with snow and ice.

Literally got a text that said "3 others have already called in. We need you here. Are you sure you can't make it up here?"

It was a 15min drive on a normal day with me speeding on the highway btw.

How fast this happened? I don't even see the news and this sort of stuff is normally reported here. Those pictures and vids are horrifying, stay safe NY GAF.

Some Twitter geniuses who never leave house and never touched the grass are saying that rat is drowning :pie_eyeroll:

hope everyone is safe but new york city will be the first place to go (along with california) underwater. the flooding is only gonna get worse in the future. time to move further in or higher up.

I wonder if the technology is even possible to “destroy storms.” No, not like with atom bombs, but I wonder if there are advanced alien civilizations out there in the cosmos, if they have invented some type of machine that they send into the clouds, completely evaporate or dispel them and boom, storms gone.

It can’t be impossible, right? For us on earth maybe, but I’m talking thousands/millions of years into the future.

You don’t need to destroy storms. You need proper urban planning. A lot of what we see is lacking of any planning. Cities grow, the original soil is replaced by cement, small rivers are filled in… No wonder these things happen, but of course the politicians will blame climate change.

At only 6 feet above sea level, Miami will go underwater before NYC. (33 feet). It will be a model for the rest of the country on how to deal, or how NOT to deal, with rising sea level.

Wow. The tornado that hit Mullica Hill, NJ that I posted photos of has now been graded by authorities as a minimum of an EF-3 and possibly larger.

New freaking Jersey may have gotten an EF-4 tornado. Insane.

There is a map of Houston done in the 50's that was like (build here, don't build here, it will flood).

Fast forward 60 years (and ignoring that advice). Sure enough, those areas flooded. Im sure its like that for most major metro areas.

It was pretty fun(?) splash-mountain like driving experience coming back home to NJ last night around 7pm - on my dinky Prius, when it really started to come down.
Glad actually got out of the city safely. I moved to higher ground years ago, and after divorce, went up even higher in elevation... so I wasn't too concerned about the flooding myself - but the lower part of the town had some water damages it seems. I just came back from walking around - surprisingly not too much tree damage, but I see some people taking out wet carpet from their basement etc.

I spent good chunk of my youth in Iowa, so I know how devastating tornadoes are - so it was rather scary to hear that a real big tornado hit the town not too far away from where I am. It must be following me... :(

Obviously, this is terrible for NJ/NYC.

Perhaps now they will have a little understanding now of what the gulf coast goes through on yearly basis.
Why would they need to be taught that lesson lol. I live in Louisiana and wouldn't wish this yearly mini apocalypse on anyone.

It’s not “taught” a lesson. Don’t wish it on any area, especially fellow Americans. Just saying that there can be a huge disconnect between the gulf coast and the north east when it comes to a lot of things. Shared experiences, even those that are terrible, can help bring people together. Seems there are more forces trying to pull folks apart than push them together.

Wild stat:

3 of the top 7 most destructive hurricanes in American history, in terms of the estimated amount of damage done, all happened in the year 2017.
