Pretty much. After watching the last Sessions hearing, I've come to the conclusion that people really can and will say anything with very little recourse. Still blown away how awful that whole thing was.

There's no penalty for bullshit right now. If you're accused of wrongdoing, you go in front of a body composed primarily of your own party who is perfectly willing to put party over all else. Voters will keep voting for these feckless GOP politicians, so they have no incentive to change their ways. And so nothing happens. There are two ways to change the behavior of the people in power. Either there has to be a real threat that they won't be re-elected, and for too many of them, that threat is completely non-existent; or there needs to be a threat of armed insurrection, and that is simply not going to happen. Without either of those two things happening, there are no consequences to anything they do. Why should they give a shit about morals or justice if it doesn't affect their bottom line?
