As all logical and rational thinkers have noted, the pretext of this meeting is the entire story. Jr. agreed to meet with someone who was described to him as a representative of the Russian government bringing damaging details about a political opponent, and in fact was eager to do so despite knowing where the information was coming from.

It is attempted collusion, through and through. The consequences remain to be seen.

1. Is opposition research an item of value.
2. Is ignorance of campaign finance laws a defence against breaching them.

That's presuming there aren't more facts to this case that are further damning for Junior. We know he tried to get information from the Russian government. We know he did it knowingly.

He is openly admitting this.
