NYT: Russian Government Sought to Aid Trump’s Candidacy, According to Email

Attrition

Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, and Paul J. Manafort, the campaign chairman at the time, also attended the June 2016 meeting in New York. Representatives for Mr. Kushner referred requests for comments back to an earlier statement, which said he voluntarily disclosed the meeting to the federal government. He has deferred questions on the content of the meeting to Donald Trump Jr.

Brutal. These crooks aren't even protecting themselves. Honor among thieves I suppose.

Too lazy to quote article myself :b

I'm going to quote what Trump told a BBC reporter, "I think you might be thick.". Oh, the irony.

Is this a bombshell? I'm tired of getting excited for what are supposed to be bombshells that don't blow up.

As I've said before, there is no one thing that Trump could do or say that would magically get him impeached overnight other than murdering someone on camera.

It will take a gradual erosion of GOP confidence in his ability to anchor their own election chances or, failing that, a removal of the GOP congressional majority by the same mechanism in 2018.

Every little bit helps though, up until the point the FBI reveals the findings of their full investigation.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
I am just amazed at how incompetent everyone in this family is.

It's like an advisor said to them "There's all these trails and connections here. Perhaps we should clean them up before someone sees them"
Only to be told "No it's fine, nothing will happen"
And then Robert Mueller walks in and sees EVERYTHING

With news like this, baby he was born to run.
Gets up in the evening and he ain't got nothin' to say.
Hiiiiiding on the backstreets.
Ba dum tish!

To be fair, had they lost like everyone expected, no one would be looking.

Honestly, I'd say this is a product of the arrogance of never having to be responsible for anything, ever. It's fairly obvious he and his family consider themselves above the law or that the law is something to be abused, so it's not surprising they were cocky enough to just let this stuff slide without being cautious.

The United States should just abolish emails because they're nothing but trouble. Killed Hillary Clinton, in the process of killing Don Jr, maybe it might creep in and get Kushner and Trump Sr while its on its rampage.

Is the FBI to be trusted with their investigation? Like is Trump keeping resources from them and is their head not in Trump's pocket?

The alphabet agencies are, for exactly this purpose, mostly independent. He can control the head, but the heads of these agencies are also very visible and vulnerable. Even the slightest bit of impropriety spells the end of a long and storied career and they also likely won't ever get a job anywhere near the industry for the rest of their lives.

So, it's mostly balanced.

What if the e-mail is fake and we're dealing with another Dan Rather situation? I know the NYT is good, but no one is perfect.
The sourcing is from people inside the WH and Don Jr already confirmed the earlier stories. I'm not sure what the purpose of faking an email would be, unless it's like Kushner trying to frame someone else to take the heat off themselves (which seems like not a great strategy since Kushner and Manafort attended the meeting). This is a very bad story for the administration.

Is this a bombshell? I'm tired of getting excited for what are supposed to be bombshells that don't blow up.

Most of these stories have been serious bombshells. If you expect Trump to vanish in a puff of smoke or Mitch McConnell to press a big red impeachment button then you should remember that Watergate took two years and we're barely six months in.

Almost every story you're inferring was not a bombshell will be important evidence at some point in the future.

They have all blown up. This one is inflationary.

WTF crazy....this is *THE* smoking gun....right???

It will be one of dozens. But not immediately. Although this one is pretty damning and I am sensing a shift from the GOP.

Eric Trump walks into a chaotic scene at the WH.

"Hey guys! I've got good news!"

He is ignored.

"Hey guys, you know that project I've been working on? The one where you all told me to 'Take care of those emails'?"

A few heads turn towards him.

"Well, I figured I should back them up somewhere before I deleted them just in case we need them later. So I looked around and then I realized we have a Federal Backup Institute! So I sent all the emails there!"

The room goes silent and for the first time in his life, all eyes are on Eric. For the first time in his life, he is happy.
