Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

I'm in the middle of one of the assassin's guild quests and someone from the thief's guild showed up to invite me while I was hiding in someone's house on a mission.

What a glorious weird game.

goddamn, just a boy 14 hours into the Oblivion remaster hoping Todd decides to do this for Skyrim...

Come on, lets release Skyrim for the 17th time brother Todd

it just works

They first need to fix the 16th time. I just started the PS5 version for old time's sake and got 3 crashes within one hour just playing the opening quest with no mods.

The engine they use is utter dog shit, it will likely never get fixed on console

I always stuck to PC for Bethesda games.

Consensus is that it doesn't affect loot but there's never been proper testing to conclude that afaik.

Otherwise it's just a modifier for your skills. Every 10 levels of luck adds 4 points to your skills. You're still capped at 100 regardless though. Unless you plan to be using the razor dagger it's not worth investing in.
Fuck, i made an hard save before leaving the sewer so i can change the initial sign but i played like 2 hours after that...

I got an 8bitdo 2 ultimate only to find out it doesn't work with this game. I am livid, but the silver lining here is that I now own an 8bitdo 2 Ultimate. Tried it with Shadps4 and the quality is night and day when comparing my old controller. Feels like silky magic in my hands, too. Comes with a slick dock charger and cable.
How come? Mine works with no issue here. There was a firmware update maybe that I got after it arrived last month.

Skyrim with this upgrade would be insane
It'd be cool, but I feel that with Skyrim the improvements would be graphics and nothing else.

I'd rather they try with Morrowind, modernizing it somehow like making the combat less dice-roll dependant, allowing you to manually block and so on. Sure some people wouldn't like those changes but we'd had 2 versions of Morrowind that'd play different, and that sounds like a win to me.

The Ultra Plus mod just got an update for those of you who want to try it. It no longer crashes anymore so all good to play with it installed/enabled if you've got the hardware:

What's New?

v0.3.5

  • Improve general game responsiveness/feel
  • Fix motion blur (it feels usable now), now tied to effects quality, disable in mod to disable motion blur

v0.3.4 Enhanced RayTracing
  • Fix issue causing crashes for people in certain places and on load

Features

  • Enable Ray Reconstruction
  • Fixes a compatibility issue with DLSS 4 causing fog artifacts
  • Provides control over various game and graphics related options via keybinds, UMM, or configuration file
  • Improved fog quality
  • Fix fog ghosting
  • Fix fog artifacting against the sky
  • Include fog in Lumen tracing for GI and reflections
  • Increase lighting quality in general via modifying the games PostProcessVolumes
  • Add several lighting quality levels allowing maximum theoretical lighting quality
  • Improved reflection quality
  • Fix screenspace reflection issue when Hardware Lumen is enabled
  • Engine performance tuning including addressing stutters
  • Allows using DLSS 4 Presets J/K by forcing DLSS preset to be in auto mode
  • Replaces NIS sharpening with UE native sharpening and provides setting in U+ mod settings.

Performance Information

  • Increasing lighting quality will cost FPS
  • Ray Reconstruction costs 10-15 FPS
  • Lighting quality performance and standard look good — use them if you want to maintain higher FPS or need more frames
  • Tune LightingDownsampleFactor up to x32 if you need more performance
  • U+ settings presets are now provided. Update UMM and select a preset in the top right.

Redoing the "Pilgrimage" quest that sends you all across the world to find the shrines, then sends you to even more locations to find the relics of the Crusader is a reminder of how much this game is the GOAT. The variety of locations, the sense of exploration and finding secret places, imo it's something that no other game did as well (including Skyrim which had more boring dungeon designs).

This remaster is a gift to mankind.

Have you tried it yourself? Let us know if its worth trying. The Stalker 2 mod the same team did really improves the game

I tried the previous version but it was crashing when entering/exiting areas that required a load screen so disabled it, but they've said they've fixed that now. It did look great though.

I'm playing clair obscur at the moment so probably won't try again with the latest version until next week.

I previously used their mods for both cyberpunk and hogwarts legacy and they were transformative (visually), especially so for hogwarts. Still waiting for them to actually finish stalker 2 before buy that though.

By the way, for anyone trying the mod, if you want to edit the settings manually then find and edit the following file ( TintoConCasera TintoConCasera this should be useful for you) :

Yeah I will try it briefly after work today. I don't have a super PC so I'll probably just roll with the default settings to check those fixes on fog, ghosting, game's responsiveness/feel and overall game stability.

Game was already running pretty nice for me at 2K DLSS Quality with all the shit set to Ultra including HW Lumen. Hope to be able to keep that while enjoying the fixes the mod seems to provide.

Saw some people post the level scaling is still ass, so I think I'm gonna prioritize the main quest before I do any side stuff just so I don't get fucked with potential level scaling bullshit during the story.

Honestly? They could leave Morrowind looking like a 2003 game. The big thing I want is a combat system that doesn't just make me angry and annoyed lol. Give me that and I'd be 100% happy

I've been getting tons of crashes on PC

what specs are you running? No issues here so far outside of a crash in one of the early dungeons.
9800X3D, Asus Crosshair X870E Hero, 64gb 6000mhz CL30, RTX 3090. I'm 20 hours in so far. Latest nvidia hotfix driver and w11 24H2.
I've never had a single crash in Tekken 8 (also unreal engine 5, 23 hours logged there). I don't recall Ninja Gaiden 2 Black ever crashing either.

You're starting to even sound like Phil. "We're not making people get GamePass, it's a choice"

And you waited for someone else to buy the game for sharing before you played it.

edit: Just got a ~2GB update for the game. Wonder what they address.

Ok, everyone. How is the gameplay compared to Skyrim with the updates? Is it just Unreal 5 laid over the original engine and the gameplay still feels "old", or does the gameplay now feel mostly modern?

This is my 1st time playing oblivion but just saw this article from polygon that I had to ask about. This writer has the top 10 skills to get during character creation and it is completely reversed from what I would do

1)Acrobatics (Stealth)
2Sneak (Stealth)
3Athletics (Combat)
4Security (Stealth)
5Heavy Armor/Light Armor (Combat/Stealth)
6Armorer (Combat)
7Alchemy (Magic)
8Restoration (Magic)
9Destruction/Blade/Blunt/Marksman (various)
10)Illusion (Magic)

The 1st 3 skills i wouldn't take. They are the easiest to level up just by moving in the environment.

The security perks suck; 1 less tumbler breaks? Lame.

Armorer and then some kind of magic are super important. Plus alchemy is really useful as a fighter cause there's tons of resources and you can just go to the menu in a fight and drink potions.

Thought it was a bad ranking. What say you oblivion masters?

Never cared too much about skills usefulness or the perks they unlock, I always pick them based on the character I want to role-play as. :goog_relieved:

I forgot how much loading there is at times in this game.. I loaded into a city, walked a couple of steps and loaded into an inn, loaded out to the street, and then went across the street and loaded into a store. Then loaded out to the street for then to load out of the city.. oh well, old game design.

Not that old, Bethesda doesn't want to let go of loading screens unfortunately.

Just in case this wasn't posted already... You can run Oblivion on the Steam Deck at mostly medium settings by tweaking the INI files.

I tried out the settings in the article and it looks and runs amazing.

So did they 'fix' level scaling or not? I can't find useful information on what's been changed, if anything.
They fixed leveling. They didn't touch the level scaling for the enemies, which has already mods to fix that.

Those mods are just ports of the ones that were made for vanilla Oblivion, which I think I can vouch for since I used them the last time I played the game 2 or 3 years ago and had a great experience.

Been having a lot of fun revisiting Cyrodiil in this game. Runs fine on my machine though frame gen is required. The only thing I don't like, is that they removed the first person horseriding. Otherwise fantastic.
