Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Pc always. Not only will it run better, you will be able to install mods

These types of game are far better on pc always because of the modding community

Normally I would agree and default to PC but the stutter issues had me concerned. Though on PC I can also use my 360 Controller to get more of the good old nostalgia too!

Papito, on console there are many stutters too. No one is saved from it until papi Todd do something about it

Took some screenshots of caves and dungeons, with a few extra shots:

I'm using a 1080 ti with 32 GB ram and i7 11700k cpu - I've experienced none of this stutter I keep hearing about.

It's crazy what a facelift can do - I just went through Oblivion and noticed how unremarkable just about all the caves are in the game in terms of visuals, but this version makes even the most generic cave look pretty incredible.

Not sure what's up with Alex, but the stutters are nowhere near as bad as he claims. It's no worse or better than on consoles, so go for PC. Plus, you can use mods to fix tons of annoying bugs that were overlooked.

For instance, the Light Raiment of Valor is still bugged. It degrades 10x faster than it should. You're stuck with that on consoles. I also highly recommend the Ayelid Reshade mod that somewhat restores the original colors.

Should I go for PC (13600k, 4070 Super, 32GB) or PS5 Pro version?
I have the game on both and a similar PC setup. If you have no personal preference then i would recommend PC. The stutter seems somewhat worse on PS5 Pro, and as mentioned, PC offers mods to improve the game.

TES games should always be played on PC if possible. Not just for the already mentioned mods, but being able to open the console to fix any broken thing like an NPC or a whole quest can be a life saver.

I just wished it looked like this once you start moving the camera. Ghosting / motion trail artefacts (and blur) and other sign of heavy of temporal accumulation to speed processing up is very very common with most UE5 games, but yes screenshots look great :/.

Papi, console has hitches, sure. It is far from perfect.

But the PC version probably stutter more, it's not just this game, UE5 on PC is well known for its stutters.

And the hitches are even worse on lower your CPU power gets.

I bought skyrim (3rd time) anniversary edition on ps5 and would say PC. I wanna get the plat so I haven't used an mods but they added a lot to the base game. It's wild to be playing and enjoying a ps3/360 game in 2025. Both of them.

I already put 12 hours into skyrim over 2 days after 50 into oblivion. I'll probably have 120 hours in oblivion by the time I plat. Those are persona 5 numbers

I highly recommend these 2 mods as they enhance shadows and the overall color space without a performance hit

I stopped playing it because of the hitches and stutters. In 2006, it was sort of a trade off considering how cool the game was at the time, but now open world games that run flawlessly and are beautiful aren't uncommon. So, this stands out for the wrong reasons.

And I really loved playing this in VR. Hopefully there's a patch coming.

Overall this is an amazing remaster, but the stutters, especially after leaving a cave or building cant be ignored. Are we even getting any patches?
I'm surprised we have not had another major patch, or even a minor one, this week. I also wish they would have implemented FSR 3.1.3, and that seems unlikely now.

Hopefully we see a nice patch release soon. Either way, this game is freakin incredible.

Edit: I really hope they're working on a Morrowind remake as well.

I am playing it too and between the constant loading screens, and the stuttering I am thinking as well to stop all around. It's unpleasant to play like this.

Has there been any news of a patch for this dropping at some point soon? I got tired of the game crashing so gave up, but want to get back to it. I did take a quick look on Google but found nothing.

That's strange. I played on a Series S and a Series X and it runs great, with the very occasional hiccup of a couple of dropped frames in the open world and texture loading when entering a new large area.

The stutter isn't bad for me either on a 4070, although I set the shader cache to unlimited in the NVCP. It's bad for like the first 10 minutes, then it levels out to be mostly fine. Still some traversal stutter, but I don't think that can be helped.

Just a quick informal poll.

How many of y'all actually let the adoring fan follow you around?

He would cockblock my stealth. Although I haven't finished the Arena yet. Waiting for some patches due to me being scared of being locked out of quests due to glitches. 2nd run will modded to fuck and back, so the unofficial patch will be in play.

On the latest Digital Foundry cast they said that the developer discovered the source of hitching and are working on a patch for it

I let him follow me. Then I stepped through an Oblivion gate, asked him to wait for me at the entrance and went to close the gate. Now he's stuck in Oblivion.

Hope the ps5 version gets a good patch for pro.

Had a weird bug where it was running sub 30 fps everywhere in game on performance. Reloading a save fixed it.

I was hoping pro would get a 40fps vrr mode, or performance mode be a locked 60fps. Or shit give us a smooth 30fps because the current 30fps isn't like final fantasy xvi where it's super smooth,

He disappeared in my play through. I heard that he can get stuck if you close an oblivion gate so I think that might have happened to mine.

March Climber March Climber Super Lemon Drop Super Lemon Drop did you guys keep playing tainted grail? I watched a trailer today for the 1st time and it looks up our alley. I haven't tried avowed but I've been all tamriel for 2 weeks

Oblivion has put me behind on my 52 thread schedule, and it has consumed the past couple of weeks of my free time. I do have Tainted Grail and Avowed on my list and they do look good, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to it, especially since I'm going to jump directly to Elden Ring Nightreign afterwards.

If anything, this will benefit me since by the time I play both TG and Avowed, they will both be patched up and also potentially have any future content announced/out.

Lunarorbit Lunarorbit Are you moving to either game? Have you finished Oblivion yet?

I love this game, one thing bothers me, though.
As you can see in this image i have a Blade skill of 60 + 17 which makes 77, but I'm still on Journeyman and not expert which starts at 75.
It would be cool if they would add the bonus points for the skill.

I'm close to finishing the campaign in oblivion as a fighter. Started skyrim as a thief/conjunctor cause I skipped the mage, thief, dark brotherhood guilds in oblivion for a second play through.

I'll definitely need to take a break on this genre after I finish these 2. Like you said hopefully TG will be patched by the time u get around to it.

I adore this game, but I do think it's inexcusable that 20 year old detrimental bugs are STILL in the game. Can't complete the forged letter thieves guild quest step because the piece of shit forget just keeps saying "it's not ready yet" after he told me it would take a day, and nothing is fixing it. And this was an issue 20 years ago.

I stopped in the demo, just before leaving the dungeon. I don't know how much is beyond the dungeon.

I stopped because I want to play the full game already lol. It's the biggest problem I have with demos of games I like; I want to keep playing! So I'm saving my hype for the full release. But now you have me wanting to go back and see what's beyond the dungeon!

Completed Shivering Isles. Might come back later to the Knights of the Nine, but ready to go back to other games I was playing before this dropped. Overall, it was a lot of fun to revisit this buggy classic.

Can you load a save before that quest? For me the quest worked flawless first try. Had a few other incidents where a quest bugged out somehow.....but till yet a reload of an earlier save always helped. Hope it stays like that. 🤞

Tried reloading multiple times and it still just breaks when I get to that step

Thats strange. Found this on reddit.....maybe that helps. It seemed to have helped a few others.
Someone on one of these threads suggested waiting 23 hours and then waiting again. This finally worked for me. I did the following:

  1. talked to The Stranger in Castle Anvil precisely at 8am to clear out all dialogue options.
  2. talked to him again in his house at precisely 5pm and gave him the letter.
  3. went outside and waited 23 hours. Then waited another 6. This brought me to like 10:04pm game time.
  4. let time pass and talked to him again in his house at precisely 11pm.

Platted last night

Never cared about Shivering Isles. I don't care how crazy and kooky it is. That's not what I come to this series for. If it was a more grounded expansion I'd be all in.

GOTY for me. Not sure what's able to top it at this point.

I am enjoying the game more now with a few mods installed. That being said, why is the world so empty? Its beautiful but there is nothing going on
