Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Finished it yesterday. Overall I think it was a good remaster however it is still a Bethesda game. I don't know if anyone else has this problem with Bethesda games, but the first 15-20 hours are usually fun. After that it goes down hill and fast. Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Oblivion, Skyrim and Starfield have this problem. I think it the scaling ruins the game after the initial stage.
Basically my experience with bethesda games yeah.

First 20 hours of exploration and fuckery are great, then you realize that it is not enough to sustain another 100 hours of shit combat, shit writing and a constant feeling that the game could break at any moment.

But they always get my money so...silly me i guess?! :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

The wroiting in this goim is super shitty
And i love it

Can someone explain armor to me quick?

In ESO you want to mix and match so you level all weights at once.

Here, if I'm going a bow/dagger build do I only want to go light armor to benefit that the most? Or do I still want like one piece of heavy on me to level heavy equip?
Just focus on leveling up whatever armor type you have set as a major skill.

I am in total love with this game. Currently at hour 25 and I am doing the Pilgrimage quest for the Knights of the Nine. It is a long questline, but it has such great environments to explore that I don't mind getting lost here and there on occasion, some good loot too along the way, mostly potions. Whenever I'm not playing the game, I think about it. Haven't felt that in a long, long time.

Just finished the knights of nine quest. Now that I have all of it I've finally started checking out daedra shrines. Trying to role play on this run

Agreed! I can't stop playing, or thinking about it, easily my GOTY and it would compete with most of my recent years GOTYs as well.
Is it better than Skyrim? Maybe I get bored later but at this point (about 40 hours) I think so. And Skyrim is on my all-time top 10.

30 hours and you didn't even find a silver bow to deal with them?
Really just depends on how you play - think you need to be around level 10 and it's totally possible to play that long and not hit that level.

I think this Remaster is going to open up a lot of Skyrim players to this title that have never really messed with it.

Fo deal damage to ghosts and the like you need weapons with some sort pf magical damage, a normal silver bow won't do it. And yes, it took 30 hours for a bow like that to drop. Crazy…
That's incorrect though. Silver and daedric weapons can kill ghosts. The game even tells you this.

They start dropping from lv 4 and are available for purchase from 7.
But it seems Jimmy didn't know they would solve his issue.

Just finished mages guild quest line.

That was all super satisfying, and how it ends makes you feel bad ass.

Well done!

Is there a negative to wearing the Crusader gear and weapons instead of leaving it behind on the rack?

So I just purchased the PS5 version after putting 100+ hours in on the Series X game pass version.

I want to play this game on my Portal.

I said it before but I really appreciate that you don't really need to be playing a mage build to be able to do and complete the Mage's Guild quest-line. Infact, to my recollection, there's only one quest where you actually *need* magic to proceed, the one where you have to hit the big pillar with different kind of spells, all of which are fortunately obtainable via scrolls not too far from it.

I barely put any points in the magic related stats so it worked out great.

I don't know why it is, but it's ingrained in my head that Magic users are sissies.

nah, you're doing it right. we pay for that first 20 hours, & they're worth it. anything/everything beyond that? gravy...

Fucking going to bed early just to wake up and play more.

Pure crack.
Playing late and sleep longer in the morning or going to bed early and play longer in the morning, different solutions to the same problem - There is not enough time to play Oblivion!

I also play Hollow Knight right now, dipped my toes in Wukong a little bit recently too, but otherwise it's been all about Oblivion for me since it released. Sooo good!

Did the weird dreamworld quest in Bravil last night. First time for me, only 20 years LTTP lol. It was too easy but otherwise cool, I wish they did more quests like that.

Returning the gear to the rack frequently repairs it, recharges the weapons and scales the items to your current level.
You also need to make sure to not do crimes otherwise you will lose the ability to wear it until you re-do the penitence tour.
But otherwise the gear is made to be used, no negatives.

Great that they kept all the "broken" stuff or introduced even new glitches. My mage is running around with 3000 mana (drain magicka glitch) and casts spells for 700 mana with instant mana return (via telekinesis/spell absorbtion glitch)....just obliterating everything in two casts. Love it! :messenger_smiling_hearts: Not that this is necessary. A simple spell with fire dmg, weakness to fire and weakness to magic and some mana potion spamming is enough to cruise through the game...but its awesome that you can go completely nuts with magic.

Yep, Oblivion was and still is GOAT.

Welp.....it's 2025.....and I have modded the holy fuck out of Oblivion again. This game is one of the absolute best of all time when modded up a bit, and goddamn I just can't put it down. Also, controversial point, I know the performance isn't where people wanted it, which I get, but it actually seems more stable after around twenty mods than Skyrim has been the last few times I dug into Skyrim mods, so I'm actually kinda.....God help me .....I'm having a bit more fun with this than Skyrim.

For the record, I massively prefer Skyrim in terms of music, gameplay, and game environment and art, and I just wish Bethesda didn't fuck it up so many times over the years with unnecessary patches when it was in a great, very playable, mod friendly space for quite some time, and ever since Skyrim started up all the patches and shit a while back and rereleases it's no longer as easy to mod into a stable state as it once was, and I'm finding this version of Oblivion fairly easy to get to a stable state with all the mods that I like.
Absolutely loving it.

Virtuous about to be king of remaster/remakes if they nail MGS3 as well this year.

Nah, they fumbled the Dark Souls remaster. My mistake, QLOC made the remaster and Virtous made the Switch port.

But still, I think overall Nightdive does a better job.

I'm honestly sad I replayed this two summers ago. I hadn't played it for more than a few hours at that point since fall 2006. I'm still enjoying it but so many of the quests are just too fresh for me to be as enthralled with the world as I probably would be.

What was wrong with DS remaster?

I had no issues playing it.
Mostly, lighting issues. Messes with the vibe and visuals in more than one place.

If you don't feel like watching a fucking movie just skip to the firelink shrine section. Should give you an idea of what went wrong.

I assume there's a mod that fixes this now right? Or did they never patch it?

Once I'm done with E33 I might play this since it's on game pass. How fast were any of you able to finish the game? I dont want to get into a super long game

I dont want to get into a super long game
Personal opinion but if that's the case then don't play it. Sure you can beat the main quest in like 30 hours, but you would be missing on the charm of the game which is going wherever and doing/finding stuff on your own. Sidequests, factions, dungeons or just exploring out of curiosity. And the DLCs as well, one of them is amazing and should not be skipped.

But if it's any consolation, I think it's a game that's easy to drop and then pick up again later on when you feel the itch again.

None of us have finished except Adam because he has to finish everything before anyone else and he finished it in less than a week (which is beyond ridiculous).

Normies let this shit go for dozens and dozens and dozens of hours.

Yeah I might pass then, I'll get it to it this summer/fall when there's nothing else coming out. I'll probably play E33 for a while so it's best to go with one or two small games after it
