Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

The Orc knight quest chain can suck my dick. She is killed by guards as soon as I enter the castle. Even if I run to the Count and trigger the next quest, it's automatic fail when she dies.
These ancient bugs should have been fixed.

As a rule, always do the Kvatch quest early because it becomes hard around level 15.
The zombies are grosser In the original game.

It is pretty annoying that they did not bother fixing the old quest bugs. I mean, come on. I assume the crazy AI is still in the game.

Sorry but also those who play the game for the first time have to experience the game the way it was 19 years ago. It's a kind of trademark. Let them realize how broken things are. :D

I tried so hard to play this like the first time then I got to level 30+.

If this broken game likes to play dirty, time to pull out broken spellmaking and enchanting.

You dont even need "broken" spellmaking. Just use an elemental damage spell, together with weakness to that element and weakness to magic and you basically face rolling through the game. I am level 31 and everything dies after two "shots". Combine that with a long lasting "chameleon" spell (not "invisibilty", as it breaks when you do an action)....and you feel like a god. Magic is just extremely overpowered in that game....and I love it! :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Fam is the remaster worth getting? I finished Expedition 33 and feel empty and at the same time I grew up loving Oblivion. So, is it worth getting or shall I let it fuck off?

Or just run past everything with an invisibility spell. The combat gets tedious after level 30 so I skipped most of it.
Why? Just lower the difficulty. Oblivion is one of the few games out there where with time you actually have to lower the difficulty. lol
I started out with Expert, now running on Adept with Level 21 and fully expect that I have to lower the difficulty soon in order for it not to turn into a spongefest.

I say yes but I would recommend you to get the pc version and install a few mods to make the experience better

I only play on PC my friend. I'm not a peasant. At least mainly not a peasant unless PS or Nintendo got a game I wanna play then I become a peasant for a bit

Feel free to share the mods you mentioned and thank you in advance

If you are sensible to technical issues (occasional stutter when loading in and a few ctd's after long sessions) you might wanna wait for a patch. Otherwise go for it. Its still a fantastic game imho which now even has nice graphics.

I like the challenge when it's there, but after my 20th Ayleid ruin I can't be bothered to fight 50 skeleton heros and doom wraiths to get the magical macguffin.

Typical Bethesda garbage. I hate that shit but can tolerate it if its minimal

Ok papito, here is a quick list

The first is essential to make the game looks good, its called lumen remastered, it makes the game look as it should.

Greener grass, makes the grass green as it should

Slow motion block, its great when using the bow

Increase bow head damage, this one is essential too because in the vanilla game it don't matter where you aim, you remove health the same way always, this one rewards you for aiming well

Better HUD

Fixes Vanilla level scaling

Realistic looking skin

Better info boxes so you dont have a black square in the background

Better reticle

This one makes the map looks better imo

Two handed reach, this one is great and very recommended

Better third person camera, this one is essential if you play im third person camera

Increase bow speed, this one is a must if you go for a bow build

If you have a nasa pc, this mod gives you even better textures

More enemies. The map is a bit empty, I strongly recommend this one

Remove chromatic aberration

Better AI enemy, this ones makes fights more interesting, definitely worth it

And I think these are more or less the one that I have installed and consider essential, there is one that I installed that tweaks difficulty but cannot find it it now, I'll update the post later when I find it

Absolute legend. Cheers mate!

This mod is great if you think normal is way too easy and hard is way too hard:

edit: forget about this one. The mod posted above is already using this one + another mod.

Fixes Vanilla level scaling

Thanks papi, bookmarked your post for future reference.

About the mod I'm quoting here, I like to pair it with those two:

You know I actually tried that mod for the difficulty for a few hours and found it a bit basic, the one I posted earlier it's in my opinion better balanced and it makes it enemies less spongy and the player receives more damage which makes combat more interesting and exciting.

But I think that in any case Bethesda or Virtuous should update asap the game by adding difficulty tweaks because vanilla difficulty is broken

I've played about 50 hours of Oblivion Remastered on PC with my character now at level 22 and, honestly, I have mostly been really enjoying revisiting the game after more than 15 years but I'll be honest here, if it wasn't for third-party mods, I would have stopped playing it as the game has so many issues, many unique to the remaster such as massive traversal stutters, a bizarre horse mounting/dismounting animation glitch, new areas failing to load fully leaving my character stuck behind a door and unable to move until I reload the last autosave, etc etc. The mods have helped make this flawed remaster tolerable on PC but I had to actually stop playing the game completely on PS5 Pro because the performance is so dire on that platform as is the stuttering (which is completely unacceptable on a fixed hardware platform in my opinion).

To make things worse, there have no patches at all for either PC or PS5 Pro since the game released.

Why on earth would a publisher announce a game and then shadow drop it the same day when the game itself was not properly optimised and polished? I get that Bethesda Game Studios RPGs are notorious for being 'janky' but this is a remaster so there really is no excuse in my eyes for releasing a game with new bugs and serious stuttering/performance issues on both consoles and PC.

I found that you have to do some tricks on your own to keep things interesting. Like, I will usually only pick up magical items and stones to sell them and not pick up the leveled gear of enemies. This keeps you wallet quite tight and you barely have enough money to buy the houses and furniture. So for that alone clearing dungeons never looses appeal for me. If you pick up and sell everything it becomes pointless super fast. But then again, there are so many other ways you can break this game...

Admittedly this is where the game shows its age. If there's no incentive to kill the enemy I would rather just skip it. I had blade and destruction at 100 by this point so fighting yet another gloom wraith and hearing the stupid noises it makes for no material gain doesn't appeal to me.

I didn't pick up gear from enemies for a different reason, it's not worth my time to do inventory management and sell it because money was so meaningless.

Thats a very common problem in many games with an economy system....and I have not even an idea how to solve it. Either you restrict yr game in such a way, that it becomes an endless tedious grind or you will end up having way more money as you need. Pick yr poison.

What I do....is just not running through every dungeon I find, unless a quest sends me there. This game offers tons of quests to keep busy with. In the beginning it made sense, to have a look here and there...just to get some loot and get things running. But the moment yr char is maxed out in yr main skills and gear wise....its simply not necessary anymore and I am just enjoying the questlines.

The Witcher 3 slapped a band aid over it by making the runewright and Corvo Bianco so expensive.

Actually having things in shops that are worth buying would be a good start.

You have the "property stuff" as a gold sink. But when I am able to get 50k worth of gear out of a single Oblivion gate because of the level scaling.....than even this becomes meaningless quickly. But I couldnt care less....there is nothing I need to buy anymore, I am maxed out....and thats totally fine. I am just playing through the quests now and call it a game than.

I tried to play Skyrim after this for a few hours…. And yeah but no thanks.

Maybe if they remaster it again like this. Maybe. I was bummed I wasn't leveling athletics or acrobatics, that it didn't zoom in on characters for conversations, and more.

I even downloaded a 400GB mod list thinking maybe that will get me into it. Then realized how it just loses the entire charm of what Bethesda built in an instant lol.

I'll wait for Todd to hire virtuous in 10 years.

New Vegas makes the most sense. It's aged like fine wine and the second season of the show will feature it heavily.

I wonder how quick Virtuous could turn that around after working on Oblivion. They've already done the hard work getting Gamebryo to work with UE5.

The game runs terribly, they should fix this first before proceeding with another botched release.

Wild that there's still no patch out yet for PS5. My tinfoil hat reaction is that this is just what happens when MS owns whatever company is dropping games on Sony's system. If it needs fixing, it ain't a priority.

I'm glad I was able to at least wrap up the platinum without any roadblocks. A memory leak isn't a surprise at all (bittersweet in a fucked up way) and it's why I only ever had two saves going, always deleting old ones every hour or so. Been doing it since the good ol days!

I haven't looked into the memory leak issue, I only know that there is one and that it's related to saving. But is it a matter of how many saves you have? Or how many times you've saved overall (whether it's 1 save file or 100)?

I usually just run with one or two as well.

I have no idea if it's related to saves or not, but it's always what I've done with Bethesda games since Skyrim on the PS3 (which had a god awful memory leak issue).

I forgot to add this mod to the list by the way, it makes running and general movement of the character much more weighty and realistic

Dark Brotherhood set. I am doing their missions, and I am surprised that you can use stealth in most of them
I didnt like the dark brotherhood robes, and wanted a more sleek set like that. Maybe less stats would be ok. I was using this leather set from a Kajit in a jail cell during the Mehrunes Razor quest.

What is skeleton key? What does it do?

Papito, are you kidding? It's the best Deadric artifact in the game.

It's an unbreakable lockpick, basically, so you can just spam the 'auto' button on any lock of any difficulty. Makes thievery and unlocking doors at night times to sneak up to your targets for the brothehood easy.

You get it by doing the Nocturnal deadric quest, her shrine is north of Leyawiin. You need to be at least level 10 to be able to start the quest tho.

I haven't played much to be honest, I am level 7 I believe and have played just a few hours. I was on holidays.

But thanks for the information, I will try to get this item asap
