I went to many events and I would disagree. I'm not saying there was zero reaction, but they were not under the pressure of the crowd turning on them.

It was basically elevated jobber matches.
There was the occasional dead crowd because I recall thinking from time to time "I wish they were more into this rad match..." But based on my rewatch, there were a lot of invested crowds having a gay ol' time during the cruiserweights. Especially when they opened the show, as the fans were energized and raring to go.

I think you just need to (re?)watch every Nitro from 1996 to 1998, Sanjuro, and then you, NeoGAF Vince McMahon, Dato, strobogo, RBH, and I can have a roundtable discussion about it.

Let us know when you finish.

Nobody gave a shit about the WCW Cruiserweights.

The 90s era works better when the fans weren't complete shit. They had the attention span to just sit through and humor stuff.

The white ones did get over eventually. Namely Jericho and Dean Malenko.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
2 weeks in a row opening to raucous booing.
