There's a handful of big-M Musicals I can handle: Rocky Horror, Les Mis, Miss Saigon & Matilda spring to mind.
The rest have this "Musical" sound and ethos that just irks me. That sort of "Hey, we're in a MUSICAL!" presentation.

That's pretty much my list and criteria, though I hated Miss Saigon and haven't seen Matilda.
Crazy Ex Girlfriend doesn't have that ethos to me, there's none of the campy get to the next song stuff I hate, it's a comedy that has songs in.
