Ordered mine from the Oculus store. Any idea how long it'll take to deliver (in Germany)? The order overview on the page gives me nothing.

Mine was ordered last tuesday 11 in the oculus store and was delivered last friday 14 (in Spain), so it went quite fast.

Man, what an awesome weekend I had, still crying blood.

Is anyone's right touch controller trigger "clicky?"

It used to have some kind of sound dampening, but only after a few days of use, it makes this clicky noise everytime I press it. The trigger itself also feels a bit looser now.

I looked online, and apparently this is a common problem with the Touch controllers? You have to RMA the controllers and send them to Oculus so they can fix it. You can also try opening up the touch controllers themselves to fix the problem, but then you risk breaking something else (they are not easy to fix.)

This is a bit of a bummer. It usually takes at least a year before I start having some kind of issue with a controller.

Okay...now it's happening to my left trigger...

It almost feels pointless sending it in for repair if it's just going to get clicky again.

Fucking hell. Those assholes at Currys have just suddenly cancelled the order I placed last week because it's out of stock. I fucking knew I shouldn't have gone with those turds.

Anyone recommend a good UK alternative?

Edit: Fuck, seems it's OOS everywhere except Oculus now.

I've tried a lot of stuff, but, the only thing that's made me feel really sick (as in, take it off and go lie down) is a game called Radiant Crusade. That made me sick immediately. Something about the cockpit driving and the speed and the aiming with your head.

In other games, I will get a short bit of nausea if my character or view starts moving backwards, like in BlazeRush if a viewpoint to the track floats backwards. Or Lucky's Tale that's happened a couple times. I can fight through those though.

Echo Arena was amazing, but, I have to stay away from the floor because standing in my room but in the game being prone on the floor was a little funky.

Trying the Rift out has made me interested in VR, but I want full room scale tracking like the Vive has. Trouble is, the Vive is expensive even secondhand, and I don't know if the Vive is worth it. I've seen excellent condition Vives online for $600 and that is tempting, but I think I'm gonna save my money and wait for the next generation of SteamVR headsets. If they put out a Vive 2 with the improved lighthouses and knuckle controllers, I might buy that.

I think ultimately that's what I want to do. I like the Oculus Rift. I really enjoyed Robo Recall, the Echo Arena demo/beta, the tutorials, and several other pieces of software I got around to last night. What I don't like is the general performance and look of VR supported software (a bit let down for me in several ways. Project Cars made me sick.), amount of wires, etc. I think the second wave could be in a position I'm more comfortable with. I going over my positives and negatives but more leaning in the way of a return as well. However I would be open to rejoining the party at a later point though.

I'm certainly convinced though that you can make great experiences in VR. That said the tech does indeed need to mature more. I've also come to a point, its something I thought about in the past, I don't need a headset, surround sound yes but not so much a visual headset. It's immersive no doubt. Give me a big enough screen, motion controls and I'd be happy. It's why I loved the Wii so much an enjoy playing games like Red Steel 2. I don't need a headset to replicate experiences like that. It's a huge positive but not a necessity I feel. I think Robo Recall could have been just as much fun (in different ways clearly) on a big screen with everything else kept.

Sim racing in VR is seriously amazing. The sense of immersion is unlike anything else except the real thing. That said, both Robo Recall and Eve Valkyrie are both very cool as well; totally new gaming experiences.

What's the best sim racing game? Any that use the touch controller as if you're actually holding the wheel?

Dirt Rally.

I'm not aware of any racing games that use Touch in the way you describe. I don't think it would work very well either, not having any physical feedback. However, though not a racing game or a sim Ultrawings lets you use Touch to use the plane's instrument panel and controls.

IMO Assetto Corsa and iRacing are my two favorites, at least of the ones that support VR. I use a wheel and pedals; not sure if any of them support Touch controllers that way.

Has anyone else experienced their play area (guardian system) move to a totally different area during gameplay? I've had this happen a couple times now since I moved my sensors to the corners. It still seems able to track me but you can see the green outline in your field of vision in a different area (no longer centered around you). Not sure if it's a problem on my end or just inherent to the current "experimental" state of the sensors setup like this. Also, it seems to stay there permanently; I restarted my computer and played different games with the problem persisting. Recalibrating the sensors/guardian guardian system was the only way to get it back to normal.

Is it perhaps best to just stick to 2 front-facing sensors?

I've noticed this happens sometimes on my rig. I think it has something to do with using all three sensor on only usb3 ports as it may overload your usb board. Try using a usb2 on one of the sensors. Unfortunately I only have usb 3 on my computer so I have to suck it up.

Yeah, a good wheel and pedal set is the way to go. Same deal with flight sims, a good HOTAS can really help.

Received the Rift yesterday and only had like an hour to play around with it, my impressions so far:
- shitty screen
- uncomfortable with glasses
- hot as hell
- The sense of immersion is great, would be much better if it wasn't because of 3 issues above

I think I will play with it for a week or two then return :/ Will get back to VR after they release better screen and improve the design.

From everything I'm reading, your only real option for glasses is to buy lenses from Zenni Optical and insert them into a 3D printed adapter like this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1602460

The stuff from VR Labs supposedly has a difficult time staying in place during use.

And because of how they focus, people with light farsightedness might not even need glasses with the Rift, people with light nearsightedness (up to -2ish) for the Vive.

And Digitalfoundry did note how bad the godrays in the Rift were compared to PSVR and the Vive.

Thanks for the response. I'm actually using USB 2.0 for my headset (and I have 2 sensors, not 3). I can't seem to get my 3.0 ports to play nice with the Oculus so far but I'll try tinkering around further.

So far, it basically seems like the front-facing sensors result in some iffy tracking/camera freaking out if you turn around. Conversely, setting up the sensors in corners can also result in some glitches like the aforementioned play area suddenly moving to a different location and/or the camera glitching out.

These aren't really problems except in games encouraging more movement. I was having a great time in Rec Room last night (a definite recommendation, let alone it's free!), but turning around and subsequently aiming at people quickly resulted in tracking and the camera going awry.

Between the two options though (front-facing or corners), I'm not sure what's the better and more consistent choice overall. My assumption is most apps (especially smaller, 3rd party stuff) will be less optimized for 360-degree tracking with 2 sensors, but you're probably fine playing the larger titles and Oculus Studios published apps/games.

In what way is the screen shitty for you? The couple of Rifts I’ve tried both had high quality screens, I mean they are OLEDs refreshing at 90hz. For glasses I think it depends on the size of them - I have thin frames, so I have no problems except my glasses tend to stay in the headset when I take it off. But I’ve heard people with thick frames have more problems.

You may want to try the Vive - it’s got basically the same screen so whatever you didn’t like in the Rift will be the same (actually Vive screen feels a little less sharp but with a little more field of view), but the Vive handles glasses a little bit better.

I guess "shitty screen" isn't correct way to say it but the screen is so close to the eyes that I can literally count the number of pixels, it reminds me too much of the good o'l 3DS screen in term of res.

Don't listen about lens labs they are overpriced in imperfect.

Get cheap, thin frames. I picked mine up for £25 and they are perfect.

Did you adjust the IPD slider on the bottom?

The device is pretty bad with glasses so I normally wear contacts. However I just recieved some Zenni Optical glasses and they seemed to fit great.

Long story short. Bestbuy has screwed me so badly.

Ordered for Store Pickup (website said I could pick it up that day).
Get email - order is backordered.
Call to change it to "Ship to home" which it SAID would arrive by Wednesday the 19th.

BOTH touch controllers and headset havent even said "Shipped" yet. Instead they both say Processing and expected by Wednesday the 26th.

If I got back to the website and look at re-order the whole thing it says 2 day shipping. So i'd get it thursday.

I call bestbuy and ask to cancel my order. He cancels the touch controllers and NOT the headset since "im sorry i cannot cancel that order sir"

Because he did that. The price jumps up since its no longer the bundle deal. It says "Awaiting authorization from PayPal" to charge me MORE.

THANKS BESTBUY!

Get on the phone and talk to a manager

Should I call the physical store? Im on with a dude who can barely speak english and I have asked him 3 times to talk to a manager and he puts me on hold for like 5 minutes and then comes back and says the same nonsense to me.

I would just repurchase it and then wait to get this sorted out later. But I used a BestBuy gift card and Paypal for this thing. Now Im probably going to have to wait a week for any form of refunds to show up before I can rebuy this. :(

I never dealt with BestBuy (not in my country) but calling the store should at least help you with getting someone who can understand your issue. But they might not be able to do anything about online orders in store.

Do they not have live chat?

The physical store won't do anything. Just call back until you get someone that can help you.

Since that moron cancelled the controllers - they are going to try and just ship me controllers as a new order and keep the bundle price even though they are separate orders.

Im on hold. Pray for me...

Edit:
Thank goodness. Got touch controllers ordered. Got a credit applied. All is good.
ONLY downside...Im getting the controllers BEFORE the headset ;_;

Finally installed the rift (still waiting on 3rd sensor to arrive before diving in to a game) and went through the tutorial (with the floating robot givin you discs to try random things) and I'm already blown away by the immersion. Such a massive upgrade over gear vr and I haven't even tried any games yet x_x

I turned it off as soon as i entered the store/ home hub. Will try this properly in a few days time with everything set up correctly but I am so hyped right now...

My body is not ready T_T

One negative so far is how hot it gets. Hopefully this is just because its a really hot day where I live.

Don't ever try a PSVR then. The occulus feels light and cool as hell compared to PSVR.

Thanks for saving me the time. Just went back to glasses from contacts. Guess this is a no go.

It depends on the size of your glasses. When I first tried it, it was literally impossible and kinda depressing. Since I got smaller frames they fit perfectly and it's not remotely an issue.

How do I wear my Oculus Rift headset with glasses?

Before you wear your Oculus Rift headset with glasses, check to make sure the width and height of your frames are the following sizes:

Width: 142mm or less
Height: 50mm or less

You literally cannot count the pixels.

Seems pretty visible to me in when there is light colored background

I literally spent 5s adjusting the slider and just forgot about it, probably will spend some time "playing" with it when I get back from work I guess.

How great is the vr experience with an amd 290 and a 4670k? Not sure whether i should hold off and just upgrade my gpu. Thanks.

Your GPU is pretty much the min spec, which isn't terrible. I actually used a 280x before I upgraded and probably 75+ percent of things will work fine on low settings and you'll get the occasional frame drop.

I still upgraded and it's better, but the 290 should be good enough to get you going.

Mine are 140mm x 42mm and they still kinda hurt

Anyone know if Amazon lets you return an opened Rift? I wear glasses so if it ends up being uncomfortable I may just return it and wait for the second generation Vive/Rift.

And yes I know I could just ask Amazon but I'm at work and won't have the chance to call them until later.

You can pull out the cable from the Rift and take it to Specsavers. That's what I did. The lenses don't need to be very large themselves because you're not gunna notice it with the limited FoV

^^^ That one will work nicely.

There are adhesive pads you can get if you don't want to screw anything

Oh nice.
I've heard the camera that comes with the controllers includes an USB extension cable? Is this true?

From my understanding I was basically planning on putting a camera on the ceiling in opposite corners of the room. Is that correct?

Yeah for 2 camera room scale that's how it works.

I don't think they come with an extenion cable. You should buy 2 3.0 Extention cables.

You DO get a USB 2.0 extender (about 6ft?) with the Rift, but the Rift itself has the same length for the USB and HDMI so it's not useful (actually I use it to put the headset into a USB hub where my keyboard etc. go in).

How does that work? I don't have any glasses with lenses that shape

They come with lenses.

EDIT: I'm seeing mostly positive reviews on Reddit so far, apparently these are adapted from the popular 3D printer design (with the owner's permission). But they're still a fairly new product so no long-term testing yet. (A few months old)

Got my Rift today and tested out some free videos and played Robo Recall as my first game and damn this game is amazing. Teleporting works better then I thought it would and ripping the head from a robot and throwing him against other robots just feels so amazing.

pretty sure you're buying the lenses haha

Oh, gottit - the post hinted that if you had a 3D printer you didn't need to buy it, and the company calls it an adapter and offer it without the lenses for some reason.

Isn't that just some company ripping off VR lens lab then?

IIRC, the VR lens lab ones come as two separate pieces instead of a single frame holding both lenses.

And from what I've read, they don't stay in place like a single piece. Plus supposedly their early lenses suffered from serious distortion.

EDIT: If you do have access to a 3D printer (or a service that does it for cheap), you can use one of these designs (might touch the rift lenses if you have a thick prescription)
