Is this how normal interactions work between people?

That's great to hear.
Advice in these areas needs to be helpful...open and based on medical facts and not used to push someone's personal agenda or crusade
Many of these people have simply fallen in as they followed the sheep ....hopefully threads like these can not only serve as a way to vent about this but also shine a light on that area

That's probably for the best. The members on the site actively steered me away from good advice when I was suicidal and in desperate need of help.
I've never been unhappier than when I was trying to figure out why so many people on the site consistently acted so strangely. Let us hope deplatforming works.

I'm not surprised. They are basically a hate site at this point. I think when they started doxxing game developers is when they finally crossed the line and got Twitter's attention though. Apparently what I said deserves a permanent ban, but "doxxing" is a 1 Day ban, and Puck Beaverton, the user saying "No, I meant shooting" apparently doesn't even warrant a warning.
And then of course there's what I've said about how ERA apparently only enforces the alt account rule on a case by case basis.
IE. Users who are obviously alts like "Dennis8K," or who flat-out mock the moderation system, like "Ban Puncher."
There' aren't any rules on ERA, it feels like. At least, the written rules aren't the real rules.
The only real rule seems to be "Don't go off-message and don't get in the way of the mob," and this time I am using "mob" with a negative connotation.

I was reporting violent posts for the exact same reason and got banned as well. It basically puts a target on you, they look at your account, and see similarities to one they already banned. And bloop, you're gone, alt-account.
You'd probably be safer from a ban posting a picture of yourself waving a Confederate flag.

From my personal experience, I believe the prominent attitudes on Era are common and celebrated among people who've never even used an internet forum. Mostly younger people (teens to mid/late 30s).
In the internet era, when your drive to achieve recognition among your peers is stronger than your desire to think for yourself, this is where we get to.
