Official Batman: Arkham Knight Trailer – “Gotham is Mine”

This is what happens when you remove Joker from the equation. Despite everything, he was the one person that kept Batman and the evil of Gotham in check with his chaotic mind and crimes. He was, out of everyone, the unrivaled archenemy of Batman, a worshiped evil, that could easily draw thugs to his side as evidenced in all the games and could effectively control the underworld of Gotham. He also was Batman's greatest protection. As long as the Joker was alive, he saw to it that he and only he could be the one that finally did in Batman. He more than likely scared or intimidated every other villain from having the last laugh.

Once you take him out however, everything changes. Batman no longer has an enemy of that level to face. Every criminal in Gotham no longer is under control by madness or chaos. Batman's rogues actually start thinking for once and realize that without the Joker, there's literally no one stopping them from killing Batman. They can effectively team up, and destroy Batman and Gotham once and for all. That is, if they don't kill each other first.

I love this interpretation.

Joker is indeed key to the balance of this crazy ecosystem.

I wonder if Harley will be able to even partly fill his chose though...I she becomes crazier than ever and has more in mind than simply getting revenge on B-man.

I love Ivy's look, really want to see Selina and Tahlia also. Also want Selina to have challenge rooms if she's not regularly playable.

Looks alright. The character models and art direction are good, but the city in particular looked a little rough. The trailer itself didn't do much for me personally, but I'm sure it'll be good fun since I enjoyed the previous games.

I hope the Joker isn't behind all of this again. Had me with city but I don't think I'll appreciate the cheese again.

Well it's next-gen only (yes I still say next-gen)

and while the character models look amazing, the city itself doesn't look so hot here.

It's overall very dark, but I think that's the tone of the game. And it's from a high altitude and night, so not many illuminated windows or details on street level visible. I believe it will look great while playing.

Edit: Ivy has a masculine and boxy looking head now. It is more realistic of course but she looks a bit like a bar owner to me now, kicking out drunks that cant pay their drinks.

People talking about the city looking not so good need to bear in mind that that screencap shows a large view over the city and so the LOD will be lower. If you look at scenes where Batman is diving down into the streets or driving the batmobile you can see the city is really detailed.

Poison Ivy is good looking now, finally. She has a believable face, and I like that it's kind of a natural beauty without the makeup along with the frizzy hair.

Then again, I thought Morgan Webb was good looking. Maybe I just like nice jaw.

God, this looks fantastic. Too bad I won't have time to play Asylum, City, and Origins before this comes out, which will probably cause me to skip this one too. Adult life sucks. :(

Hnnnnnggggh so good. It's been ages since a game got me hyped. Felt a gaming beast stirring from somewhere deep within me. Will have to let him lose and book some TV time slots.

Honestly, I think the game looks so good that I fear it's going to run like shit on the new consoles. It's so far beyond any other Unreal Engine product that's been released.

Nice trailer indeed! Like the game's set-up and overall look very much. Apart from Bloodborne this is the game that will have me buy a PS4 soon.

I do hope that this game will finally let us freely scale (and explore) Gotham's skyscrapers like Wayne tower etc. Apart from never being able to reach the zeppelins that hover above Arkham City
(I really thought one of them would be the HQ of a villain like Penguin and would be the location for a finale of sorts)
, my biggest disappointment with City's walled off game world was that it did not include the taller buildings you could see in the skyline in the background (excluding Dr. Strange's incredibly tall control tower of course, but
we never get the chance to climb and especially descend that freely by ourselves unfortunately
). I think the trailer does show Batman descending from a skyscraper, so that's a good sign.

Regarding the game's overall design: If Arkham Asylum could be seen as using a Metroid (Prime) structure (with a large focus on interconnected, inside spaces that require gadgets to proceed), and Arkham City as using more of a 3D Zelda / Ocarina of Time structure (with an overworld and dungeons, both requiring gadgets to explore), I wonder what kind of template Arkham Knight will be following? Will it be even more geared towards an open world experience with fast mobility and become like GTA or even Saints Row, or will it still have plenty of buildings to go into that function as dungeons of sorts?

I like Asylum and City equally despite their differences but I would miss it if the slower paced inside sections would be downplayed even more in Knight in service of Batmobile chase scenes and more things in general taking place outside. I wonder how others feel about this.

Oh and one last question: wasn't the Penguin also intended to join the alliance with Quinn, Two-Face and Scarecrow (instead of the Riddler even)?

Really ? Oh no.

Downgrade compared to which trailer ?

I remember a trailer where batmobile was presented and the detail in the car and weapons were better. And lighting/models in the fight scene is worse than firsts bullshots. I think I can do a comparisson later.

Why should it? Rocksteady doesn't have a bad rep when it comes to performance on consoles or pc. Ran great on 360 and also great on pc. I'm optimistic for Arkham Knight.

I don't see the downgrade myself but I look forward to your comparison if you find the time. I don't understand why they would have to downgrade anything.

It their tech is scalable there should not be any problem. Not to mention they're aiming for 30fps and not 60.

Sigh..loads up Batman Arkham City, 6% complete.

I really am going to have to knuckle down and play it to completion before June.

Steam sale backlogs are the spawn of the devil.

Not saying whether there was or not, but reportedly the game was a mess technically last E3, major framerate issues. If they were having trouble on their PC demo units there, it may have been necessary to dial back in a couple of areas.

I still can't shake the feeling that everything we're seeing is from a small section of the game, and that Rocksteady are pulling an MGS2.
