Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

That last part is really the core of the problem, I think. :(

(I mean, DoReMi Fantasy has a translation patch too! But what is done? They put up the original Japanese version, that's what.)
DRMF was Hudson though... I've little hope with them at this point when it comes to the VC. :lol

On the plus side, SEGA does all their VC stuff through M2, who are hugely fan centric and are painstaking perfectionists (their Konami Arcade DS collection is the coolest retro-emu collection to date imo, and their SEGA AGES Monster World and Phanatsy Star collections are a fan's wet dream). Maybe we should firebomb their inbox with requests and info about the demiforce patch?

I have to admit, I'm really itching for March to be over. Can't wait for Hudson to put up its April schedule that'll hopefully include Ys Book I & II, Final Soldier, and Dragon Slayer. I mean, I'm willing to assume the best of them--that they must have been working something for this whole long month other than DoReMi Fantasy--considering how many games they've put up on VC since the beginning.

Game Gear games are already supposed to be included under the Master System label. Unlike Game Boy, GG is actually official.
Is this actually confirmed? I was under the impression that people merely assumed Game Gear games would be included since (afaik) the two systems use the same basic hardware and thus SMS emulators will run GG games.

Wow, you guys haven't gotten the N64 yet? I guess it DOES take a long time. They didn't even spell "Nintendo" right. "Nintenondore"? Come on, NoE, step it up.

PLEASE AVOID CRUISIN USA LIKE THE PLAGUE.

You have been warned. (i still have nightmares to this very day)

You know I sorta liked the arcade version, especially the end which I'm sure didn't make the cut in the console edition. Crusin' USA is actually the last (and one of the few) arcade games I ever completed. I've heard that the console port was not up to snuff though, so your warning is probably well merited.

Cruis'n USA on N64 is pretty much a straight port, but with better graphics. It was pretty cool in 1996, but it was rendered somewhat irrelevant by its two sequels... Cruis'n World and Cruis'n Exotica are much better games on the N64 and have substantially more content. They also both have four player modes, while the first one is two player only.

Cruis'n USA could be compared to Cruis'n for the Wii in some ways -- the game's entire content consists of "drive through each of the tracks from the arcade version once and get first place and you're done". World and Exotica added a bunch of additional modes and unlockables to add a bunch of playtime, but the first one didn't have that... nothing to unlock (there are hidden cars, but you just access them via cheat code), no additional modes.

I'd say that at $5 or less Cruis'n USA would be a fine purchase for anyone who likes '90s style arcade racing games, but $10... yeah, that is a bit more questionable. I enjoyed the game, for the couple of hours (max) that it lasted, but I didn't pay $10... I paid somewhere around $3 for it. Whether the game is worth purchasing for VC or not depends first on if you like Cruis'n games (and despite the mountains of hatred they get now, they were very, very popular arcade games, and for good reason) and second if you don't mind buying games that won't last long but are fun while they last, and don't want the N64 cart version (which you could probably get the N64 version of (online, including shipping) for less than the VC version costs...).

I'm total fan of Cruisin USA arcade version. It is an amazing game. The N64 port simply is one of the worst port of the history of gaming. Think Outrunners or Turbo Outrun Genesis bad. No wait, San Fransisco Rush PS2 bad.

HOLY CRAP!

Aleste (aka M.U.S.H.A.) AND Dracula X?!?!?

That's like... can we get that for the US Virtual Console plzkthx?!

Man... M.U.S.H.A. is one of my favorite shmups. I'll fork over 800 pts day one for that sucker. Dracula X on a big screen would be nice too.

Oh yeah, vc-pce.com is updated and once again has no games for any region but Japan, so April looks TG-less for the rest of us again.

Ah, uh, that's obviously a mistake. I'm sure they just haven't updated the other regions yet. Right? Surely.

:(

Anyway, clearly the best thing coming in April for Japan is Bokosuka Wars.

M.U.S.H.A., Dracula X, and PS3 would be major for April here in the US. I would go so far as to say I would forgive VC for the entire beginning of the year for those three games.

I have a confession. ANY TIME I have messed around with genesis emulators, musha is one of the first games I always play. I did own it at some point, but was young and simply couldn't pass up selling it at the time for like $35!!

Uh... Famicom Detective Club Part II is the biggest news on that list.
Nintendo Power cart support means they're actually looking in to supporting bizarre hardware additions. Hopefully NES Zapper games aren't too long up the river

I can't highlight spoiler text on my iPhone, is that Dracula X Rondo of Blood or is it the SNES one?!!! (Please be ROB!)

Would be great to have a perfectly emulated English version instead of the imperfect PSP one!

Edit: It is ROB, sweeeeet! :D Oh and to the post below this one, the VC version is still by far the best one you can get (Even over the original and the PSP one) filter or not!

M.U.S.H.A. has been one of my most wanted Genesis games. This is great news. Hopefully a US release isn't far behind.

As for Dracula X, I will not be downloading it unless the TG-16 emulation is somehow fixed. They're giving us what is apparently one of the great 2-d games, but they won't let us see the pixel art in its true form, through their vaseline filter.

In other words, what you see isn't "broken". It's deliberately done.

I'm so tired of this bullshit.

Nintendo Power games were merely regular SNES roms that happened to be distributed in a different way. Emulating them should't require supporting any extra hardware, so don't get your hopes up.

Hey guys,

I just bought a Japanese Wii off of a fellow GAFfer (it should arrive next week!). I wanted it primarily for VC and WiiWare...is there anything I need to know about using a JPN console in the US? I heard that you can use a US credit card via this thread...so I think I'm set.

Can anybody see what the system code is for Commodore 64? I'm not finding it.
I can't find them either, did you use your new image locator thingy or not?

And on that subject, any idea what the code for WiiWare is?

I woke up this morning with video game music in my head. At first in my lucid dreaming I was trying to figure out what game it was from. I was thinking Tetris, but knew that was wrong. Then I realized it was from Megaman 2. :)

It's hardly new; I wrote the program about a year ago. But all searches for Commodore 64 came up empty. If someone from Europe has downloaded either of them, we can find out the save filename.

The system code for WiiWare is W, unsurprisingly.

hopefully dracula x won't take too long coming over here. THey can just use the PSP version translation!

In all honesty, does anybody actually believe this?

IF it comes to the US, which is certainly possible, they will release the original Japanese version and it will be an "import" TG16 CD game so it will cost 900 points.

That's all fine with me, but anyone hoping for the translated PSP version or anything at this point is living in a dream world.

Don't Turbo CD games cost 900 points anyway? They might try getting away with 1000 for Dracula X.
I won't bother with it anyway since I already have it on PSP, I didn't have any problems with the supposedly poor emulation quality in DXC.

i am going to get up on dracula x like white on rice on a paper plate being eaten by a polar bear with a plastic fork in a snowstorm. also the polar bear is wearing a white shirt.

first thing i've been genuinely excited about on v.c. in a long time.

Oh cool, I could've sworn Lords of Thunder was 900. Maybe I should bite the bullet on that instead of sitting on my 800 remaining Wii Points while I wait for Earthbound to go up, lol.

Thanks, but I'm not finding any pictures there, can you give a game code too?

EDIT: Thanks :D

I know some people who got one or two, I'll ask one of them to check.

I'm not sure if I'll get Rondo of Blood or not. On the one hand, it's a great game, one of the best Castlevania games out there. It would also be nice to not have to play it on the little PSP screen. Still...I already own it.

I'll probably get it just to support imports, if nothing else. That and...hey. It's a great game.

Ranger X said:
Meh, we need BLOODLINES.

I feel like i will eternally wait for this one :(
Oh man. THIS.

Super Castlevania IV is fantastic, but every once in a while, monsters just need to be speared.

I loved Cruisin' USA when I was a kid. :lol It's probably very shit now but oh man that train level was fucking sweet as a kid.

At least this means we'll see 3rd party N64 games, c'mon Take Two give us Space Station Silicon Valley!

We also need some Castlevania III.

Trevor Belmont will always be the true first Belmont, forget Leon.

Dracula's Curse is my favorite "old school" Castlevania (sorry Rondo fanboys!). Never finished it. Damn hard.
