Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

So long Chammy, looks like you were just like your hero Kagari after all.

At this point, the only reliable piece of information for us to consider is that absolutely nothing is reliable, not even press releases from other companies.

Seriously, fuck you Nintendo. The Wii goes back in the box.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND TWO VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Aug. 4, 2008

The list of available games for Wii™ owners just keeps on growing as we add another trio of titles to the Wii™ Shop Channel. This week's lineup features Old West thrills, supernatural chills and a little blue hedgehog whose name you're sure to recognize. Thanks to Nintendo's WiiWare™ downloadable game service and the classic-filled Virtual Console™, building your own blockbuster video game library has never been easier.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen—Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Draw your revolver to see if you're the fastest gun in the West. Adjust your speed and precision as targets or enemies appear in front of you. Point and shoot to earn more points. You can aim at anything, so be sure to explore the environment for elements that will earn you more shooting points. Identify your enemies among the characters you encounter, but don't shoot at innocent citizens. Take part in an Old West-style train attack, or challenge your skills in a variety of increasingly difficult shooting challenges in other beautiful, classic and lively Western environments. As you progress through challenges, you'll earn medals and rewards, making for nonstop, addictive action. Play in a two-player multiplayer mode where you and your partner can combine points, or play against each other to find out who's the fastest gun in the West.

Virtual Console

Sonic The Hedgehog™ (Sega Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the original Sega Genesis version, Sonic The Hedgehog was re-created as the first Sonic game for the Sega Master System. Not just a straight port, this version includes new stages, bosses, some different zones and a level map. The most noticeable difference, however, is that the Chaos Emeralds have to be found within certain stages other than the Special Stages. Dash through six Zones (including special zones that were only available for the Sega Master System version) and face Dr. Eggman (a.k.a. Dr. Robotnik) at the end of every Zone.

SPLATTERHOUSE™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated M for Mature—Blood and Gore, Violence, 800 Wii Points): SPLATTERHOUSE 2 is the sequel to SPLATTERHOUSE, released only on the Sega Genesis. A few months after escaping from the first mansion in SPLATTERHOUSE, the main character, Rick, once again encounters the Terror Mask and must use its powers to rescue his beloved Jennifer. Rick will need to punch, slash, smash and even chainsaw his way through a haunted mansion against unspeakable horrors and terrifying bosses to make it out alive.

I also think bare minimum Chamellion should be banned if he/she opens their mouth ever again on a single WW/VC release prediction.

I'm pretty sure this confirms that VC is a joke to nintendo of america.
fixed for accuracy. This is NOA going out of their way to make the service intentionally bad. PAL and JPN all have been getting good to great weeks during this drought of laughability in America.

at this point I really have to wonder if they're doing this to ramp up for a major fall holiday on the service.. we know they have monster games in the queue (both on WW and VC). We know they have shit approved and waiting. My guess is we're going to see shit start actually hitting by the end of September.

Which of course means another 1.75 months of this awfulness. Prepare.

Despite the "unusual" gameplay, Ys I&II are a joy to play and worth more than the mere 800 points they're .asking.

Too bad it won't be released tomorrow/Iwanttobelieve.jpg

I blame your negativity for this.
Thanks a lot.

:( If I had Wii Points sitting on my Wii, I'd be sad that I wasn't able to spend them this week. But, I don't have any points... yet I am still sad.

Sonic for the Master System when the Genesis version is already on VC? :lol :lol :lol
I guess if you're really a cheap-ass you save three bucks but you'd be getting a shitty Sonic game. So no SamShoII like we were led to believe. Major disappointment.

Eh, Haters be damned, i'm glad I have my Splatterhouse Part 2.

This week isn't terrible, although I find it hard to classify as a good week either. I can imagine that some people were looking forward to Splatterhouse 2 (when the original came out and disappointed - a lot of people chimed in & said that the sequels were better), and some might have even been looking forward to Sonic the Hedgehog SMS (it is a completely different game than the Genesis version). The big problem is that our expectations were built up by Capcom PR, SNK PR, and Hudson's website. To get none of the anticipated games is a giant hosing for consumers and the respective companies involved.

You know, I would have understood if one of the three got pushed back, maybe even 2...but 0 of 3 from real press releases? Wow.

Nintendo, what the hell?

It's one thing to have a kind of disappointing week. It's something else entirely to make your third party VC companies into liars after they've already given out press releases for games being released today.

Are you trying to piss EVERYONE off?

The hell are you thinking, NOA?

To be fair, we've been seeing shit hit the service for months now.

Maybe you'd like a better choice of words?

Holy shit, that's hilarious. :lol :lol :lol I mean what are the odds of three companies getting their games for the week wrong? Practically zero. Nintendo's obviously screwing them over.

Just...

:lol

Would it even benefit Nintendo to wait and release big VC games in the fall? I imagine we're the target audience for the service and we're prone to buy the games any day of the year. What I'm trying to say is- get motherfucking Dracula X on their stat!

God knows what's going on with NoA and the VC service, but both Japan and Europe seem to be handling things well. I know NoA reps have passed the buck before by saying that Japan sets releases, but is that really true? Why would NCL be steaming away with a great Japanese lineup and a pretty good European one, but leave the American service to wither?

Yeah, this has to be a new low for their handling of the service. Hopefully someone will give an explanation.

Didn't I read somewhere that NOA does not get to choose what goes on the VC -- That it was ultimately the decision of Nintendo JP? Or was that debunked?

I'm not saying that it is or isn't true, but that's a VERY convenient answer. Plus, if that's the case, then it would also have to be the case that European VC releases are under the same situation (no way would Japan control NoA's VC releases and not NoE's), and from what people say in this thread, Europe is getting some decent stuff.

Tomorrow we are getting Strongbad, Mega Man, and Samurai Showdown II.

I know this for 100% fact and I am willing to take a ban bet on this.

We are 100% getting those three games tomorrow. No Ys, no SMRPG.

Ahem...

It's all part of the plan so the geeks and otaku stopy crying "my fridge, my fridge!". No worthwhile games released, no storage problem.

It's brilliant.
AHUAHUAHUA

edit: and lol @ Chamellion and Kagari. Who was the last supposed insider that got banned? I forgot his name (starting with A...), he had that bug-crawling avatar.

I love the whole "we're gonna let the third-parties take the spotlight this year" then take a giant poll and shove it right up their asses. I don't understand why NOA is doing this. You are supposed to support your third-parties. Not kick them to the curb. Sigh. On the plus side, Splatterhouse 2 is a much better game than the orignal, but it still doesn't make up for what Nintendo did. I hope we will see some sort of an apology PR from Nintendo.

What's worse is this shit really makes the companies that put out press releases for their games look like idiots. Obviously they had reason to believe their games were being released on a specific day, likely from dealing with nintendo. Then Nintendo goes and does this. It's a good way to alienate 3rd parties from the service.

I knew it was too good to be true to think that I was getting Ys, my most anticipated VC release today.

Nintendo :lol :lol :lol
