I don't feel qualified to comment on Ocarina of Time. I never thought it was a worthy purchase even in 1998, never mind 2008, but I'm certainly a clear minority on that one. >_> (Most people, upon reaching Hyrule Field: WHOA LOOK IT'S HUGE HOW AMAZING MIND BLOW. Me, upon reaching Hyrule Field: So, uh, where exactly are the enemies, and why is this place so bloody empty?) I will say that I find it to be the worst of the 3D Zeldas, although at least it manages to bypass the horribly slow opening of Twilight Princess or the horribly slow endgame of Wind Waker.

Thank you. I'm very happy I'm not the only one who doesn't worship the ground that Ocarina of Time walks on. >_> I always thought that Hyrule Field was incredibly barren (not to mention much smaller than the magazines hyped it to be) and inferior to the overworlds of the 2D titles. I also wasn't fond of how much OoT slowed down the pacing. I mean, I had some fun with it, but I was never enamoured with it.

It's really difficult to say exactly what the best part of Super Metroid is, since they're all so synergistic. Is it the exploration? The smooth controls? The music, the atmosphere, the level design? I don't know. But buy it immediately.

Probably the thing that makes me saddest about the Zelda series is how it started off with an average of around five enemies per screen and got as high as maybe nine or ten, then went straight downward from there.

For Ocarina of Time specifically, what really depresses me is how when you're adult Link the field has exactly zero enemies, aside from the Poes that appear in fixed locations and are permanently defeated. :| It made no sense in the context of the storyline. I mean,
Ganondorf has successfully taken over the kingdom of Hyrule
and only now there's absolutely nothing to fight? Not just ten or so Peahats that are pitifully easy to avoid, but literally nothing. What? I mean, you'd think that at least the skeletons would still rise up during the night. I'd be inclined to think that more of them before would rise up, even.

One of my favorite moments in the entire game was
stepping out of the Temple of Time to find the town destroyed and filled with Redeads
. That was an incredible moment, but they immediately ruined it on the followup. The entirety of Hyrule Field should have been the perfect picture of turmoil and chaos, just like it is on the return trip to
Kokiri Village
.

The depth.

Jigs, your taste in games is always peculiar, but you're so OCD that you have already explained it to yourself and stored it in a word doc in your head.

Hundred-Yard Hop is one of the most fun in multiplayer, actually.

Hmm, maybe I was being a bit harsh. I could see it being a bit of daft fun. It reminds me of the awesome mini games in Pokémon Stadium 1/2. Colloseum/XD/Battle Revolution should have had mini games :(

Agreed. You'd be surprised at how many people don't think of Ocarina of Time as the embodiment of awesome. There was even a club to that extent on 1up.com.

JSNake is here to give us the PR.
Each week he gives the PR weather its a awsome week or a rubbish week.
Sometimes the pr is delaed, while others JSNake is gone.
And sometimes we have to wait till monday.
But each week we gather and await the JSnake's announcement about the Virtual Console titles then we cheer or we cry.
YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I might make a song about this...:lol

If it's gonna have as many typos as that post, don't bother.

I approve of this idea. OoT was magical for me, but that might be because I hadn't played a Zelda game since the first. I had a Gen rather than a SNES.

I'm interested in hearing your impressions of the following games:
Kid Icarus
Super Metroid
Startropics
Sin and Punishment

And I'm also sort of wondering if Ocarina of Time is a worthy purchase for someone who has already played through Twilight Princess. Thanks.
Kid Icarus: Super hard, archaic in some ways, but I like it and think it's worth the 500 points. Not for everyone though. One important thing to keep in mind that's essential for survival in this game: you don't have to (and shouldn't) try to kill every enemy. Sometimes, avoiding enemies is just as important.

Super Metroid: I'm ashamed to say that I've never actually owned this game or played it fully, but the little cocktease I got from the VC demos on Brawl has me convinced that this is an absolute must-have. It will be mine!

Startropics: Never played it. No interest really. Supposed to be a competent Zelda clone though.

Sin and Punishment: Amazing on-rails shooter. It's the most expensive game on the VC right now, but it's absolutely worth the additional cost. Games like this are what give me hope for the VC.

Ocarina of Time: It was amazing 10 years ago, but I'm not sure how well it has aged. I can't see classic Zelda gameplay going out of style though, so it should still at least be fun to play - and that's what matters, right?

Off-topic (sorta): Why do so many people give Jsnake so much shit on here, and why does he take it? He provides a valuable service to us and should be treated with at least some level of respect IMO.

Okay, so he has a bedtime and isn't allowed a girlfriend... So what?

He's 15.

Stop acting like you were all super-independent at that age. :lol

I'm positive Jiggy and Canadian are just joking.

We're just messing with him. I don't know about you, but in my group of friends it's normal. If we don't like someone, we just ignore them.

Yeah, I for one never mean any harm in my comments about JSnake. I actually became a lot more active in here in large part because of what he does for the thread.

I guess we'll just have to settle for being disappointed with not getting the PR yet in this interim time where we can't be disappointed with not getting good games on Monday.

Video was pulled. Consider yourself spared. I, however, actually sat through that.
Video was NOT pulled...it just sometimes doesnt show up because I JUST uploaded it and its still processing...

:D

>_>

EDIT: So thats what it means...

Forgive me for not reading through the entire thread (:lol ), but who else is eagerly hoping that the Japanese release of Joy Mech Fight could turn into a US release--after all these years! My heart fills with glee at the mere prospect. Good to know that Nintendo hasn't forgotten about our beloved Sukapon; and here I thought we might only see his sticker in Brawl...

Anyone else hoping that we finally see Joy Mech Fight stateside?

No. But I am waiting for some Pilotwings. Some juicing bed-wetting Pilotwings.

Didn't the ESRB rate Zombies Ate My Neighbors like a year ago? Where is it? :(
It could be Monday's update. Then again, Monday could be another shitty NES game nobody wants. Did they rate the SNES or Genesis version?

Sooo anyone else agree with me that Super Metroid was good but not all it's cracked up to be sorta like how Crazy37 and Iam Crazy think OoT isn't all it's cracked up to be?

I mean, I liked it enough but I found it frustrating how there were so many places that you were required to go through where the only way of moving forward to bomb all over the place even though there were no visual cues to do so. I liked Zero Mission better I think. Prime was my first Metroid game though and Super was the last one I played (or Prime 3... that was a good month). Haven't played Metroid or Metroid II but played the rest.

holy shit, wiirevolution1. i watched wii master chapter one... i think i'm love. i think i'm in love with you. do you mind if i call you "chris", chris?

it is cracked up to be a lot. it has a large pipe to fill, but i think it does a good job of packing it full of sweet, sweet rocks.
