Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

It's much better this way. You don't want to miss out on the opportunity to spend an extra buck for zero changes.
I also enjoy spending two bucks more for Genesis titles because the system name has more prestige in NA than Japan. But hey, at least Master System is cheaper here. :/

It actually look the opposite. NTSC is 480 vertical lines and PAL games were 576 lines. Seeing the huge gap he get on top and bottom, it's like it was a 480 game inside some 576 lines canvas.
(there still the possibility it is in 576i and it would means a 480i game would have an even wider gap! :o )

Under Wii options, my screen option is set to 60Hz (480i). Reading yours and Infernal Monkey's reply I thought changing it to 50Hz (576i) might fix the problem but no luck. I also downloaded Wonder Boy yesterday and I get the same thing :( Also it is very slow and floaty... Time for a stroppy email to Nintendo.

PEGI update:

-Forgotten Worlds
-Phantasy Star III

Seeing as both are MD games and there hasn't been a MD week yet this month, I think this is actually next week's EU update.

Crossing my fingers that the US gets at least three decent titles on Monday.
Fixed. NA is still waiting on River City Ransom, and we've had some nice titles announced recently that will hopefully go up.

BTW I haven't bought a title in likely a month or two now and I think it's about time I get something. What's the more fun game these days? Phantasy Star II or Shining Force? I imagine I'd get frustrated easily with the aged mechanics of PS II, but I hear Shining Force holds up better.

Yep region locked retail games, region locked WiiWare, region locked VC. If you have a JP Wii, you can get VC games from the other regions but I believe you still need JP Point Cards.
Wait what? Japan has access to the other region's Wii shops?

Burning Fight and Ninja Combat are both decent, although there are better examples of their styles already on the VC (the Streets of Rage series and Top Hunter, respectively)

Anyhow that's wierd. Personally i don't have problems with my american Wii and VC games. They run beautifully.

I doubt we'll see the C64 in the US yet. Everything relating to it has specifically regarded Europe (and only Europe; Australia doesn't have them either, even though they have all of the other EU games). I'm thinking we'll see Fantasy Zone and something else, maybe Mega Turrican?

Very interesting. Burning Fight and Ninja Combat both look very interesting.
You've really never played Ninja Combat? It was one of the four NeoGeo games that seemed to populate every machine back in the early 90s (that, Nam1975, Magician Lord, and Baseball Stars). I thought everyone had played it.

And it's not very good by modern standards. I mean, it's not poison like Urban Champion, but it's certainly a complete waste of $9. Burning Fight is better, but still a waste seeing as that it's basically a knock-off of Final Fight.

I suppose. Fantasy Zone and RCR this week? Though I think there might be something strange about the US rights to that game...

How did I not know Puyo Puyo 2 was released in NA?! Oh, what a great thing to find this morning. I haven't had a Puyo game since I had PP4 for GBA way back in 00 (or was it 01?), this is so great. Game is a fucking BITCH, though. I used to be unstoppable at this game, but I can't get past Stage 5 no matter how hard I try.

Also: plz release RCR, plz plz.

I've still got the GBA version of RCR, but I imagine I'd pick it up just because it's an awesome game and games like that deserve to be bought multiple times.

Wii-kly Update: Two New Classic Games Added to Wii Shop Channel

Danger may not be your middle name, but you’ll find plenty of it in this week’s additions to the Wii™ Shop Channel. Two classic side-scrolling action titles invite players to blast and battle their way to a thrilling climax. In a spaceship or an assault suit, it’ll take all the grit and gusto you can muster to survive these perilous, heart-pumping adventures.

Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Fantasy Zone (Sega Master System, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Take command of the spaceship ***-*** and blast your way through various fantastical levels as you try to take out all the enemy bases in each stage. Once you’ve destroyed the bases, you’ll have to beat the stage boss in order to move on to the next level. By using your guns and bombs wisely, you’ll be able to take down your enemies and explore each of the crazy environments in this side-scroller. You can also buy upgraded weapons for your ship by accessing the shop. Various Sega games through the years have referenced the ***-***—now you can play the game that started it all.

Mega Turrican (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older—Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The Machine has enslaved the galaxy under its tyrannical rule. As Bren McGuire, the last survivor of the United Freedom Forces, it is your duty to destroy the evil forces of the Machine that have devastated the galaxy. Fight through countless hordes of enemies using everything at your disposal. Use the weapons and power-ups of your Turrican Assault Suit, including the incredible Plasma Rope, to fight back the tide of oncoming enemies and find the health and power-ups that will keep you alive. Fifteen levels of chaos and destruction stand between you and freedom.

Honestly, I've stopped caring what Nintendo releases. I haven't downloaded anything for months, and that's because a) nothing interesting to me has been put up and, more importantly, b) lack of space. I still can't believe we've gotten nothing on this front.

That enough bitchin' yet? ;)

Will be downloading both Fantasy Zone and Mega Turrican, very happily.

I do, however, love how Master System is generally going to be 400 points (unless that idea's been cancelled) and yet the only two games available so far are 500.

I bet they decided against it.

That being said I don't think I'm downloading any MS games.

Maybe if they ever get around to lightgun support I'd think about it.

I haven't played either. If Mega Turrican is anything like Super Turrican, which it probably is, it's kind of like a hybridized Contra/Mega Man with some exploration elements. Nothing I'd give an unqualified recommendation for, especially if you haven't picked up such VC games as--oh, say--Gunstar Heroes, but if you like the genre, there you go.

Fantasy Zone, I don't know much about. I just know that in every Master System I've seen it's been pretty well hyped, and from YouTube it looks super colorful and has a lot more weapon/ship customization (from the shop system) than I'd usually expect even from an SNES/Genesis shmup. I'd be inclined to support it for that reason alone.

Since when is 2 games "un-awesome"? PSN barely gets 2 games a month.

:lol So true.

There's still stuff like Phantasy Star IV, Kirby Superstar, etc. on the way, not to mention Wii Ware's debut next month.

There's going to be a LOT available to download on Wii. Much more than other services out there.

Well, being better than PSN's awful doesn't make VC good, I suppose.
That said, "horrible" might be going a bit far even for me, and I'm pretty sure I've railed against the two-game weeks as much as anyone here. Or many people combined, for that matter.

Who the fuck cares if they are 2 great games... THERE ARE ONLY TWO OF THEM FFS.
