Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Sometimes you do but at least you have numbers backing up your feelings!

A little "Let's Positive Thinking!" is what this thread needs.

Hey, quick question (I hate to keep doing these): What is the consensus on Shining Force?

Fairly competent Fire Emblem rip off that is a bit too easy and full of awesome silly Camelot RPG dialogue.

Optimism? Guess this will be Castlevania Week, with Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and Castlevania Bloodlines.

In a Castlevania mood, are we, Jiggy? Personally, Mega Man 9's existance has gotten me hyped to see the Mega Man titles on VC, as there are a boatload of VC-eligible titles to choose from. And most of them are awesome.

Heck, I'm so hyped that I'm almost willing to make a crazy theory like Capcom was saving the Mega Man games to go along with Mega Man 9 and...oh, I can't even type that kind of thing with a straight face anymore.

I don't know, i'd rather you know, use a mouse for Mario Paint than the wiimote. Drawing on thin air would seem like a huge hassle, and the only part of Mario Paint that might be even remotely playable is the bug swatting game.
Why not just use a USB mouse for mario Paint on Wii? I mean the VC MSX titles have USB keyboard support...

Wait, they do? Hm, then Mario Paint almost sounds plausible.

Unfortunately, the fact remains that Nintendo has yet to incorporate any pointer functionality into their VC games, and I can't see them releasing a game that requires a USB mouse.

Besides, to put it all in perspective, there are a lot of games I'd rather see on the VC at this point than Mario Paint anyway. >_>

Do the C64 games have USB keyboard support too?
The C64 keyboard is a bit different from a normal one, so that wouldn't work. Pressing 1 on the Wii remote (Not sure what button on other controllers) brings up an image of the C64 keyboard on-screen, after which you can point the remote at it and press buttons.

I think if Nintendo releases a new Mario Paint it will be on WiiWare rather than just releasing the SNES version and going through all the trouble of making it compatible with the pointer.

As for today's release I'm expecting something decent if God wills, I'm optimistic.

Hey, it's Monday. Time for me to get excited about having Earthbound possibly be released on the VC then have my hopes crushed.

Where are all those peeople making hype threads saying we were getting it? It's been over a month and still nothing.

Why wouldn't it work? Just map the USB keyboard keys to their C64 equivalents... it might not be perfect, but it would do for most things. Should I take this as confirmation that the C64 emulation does not support USB keyboards?

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

You'll also notice the ongoing expansion of both WiiWare™ and Virtual Console™ offerings, bringing you the best of what's new along with classic titles that hold fond memories.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Block Breaker Deluxe™ (Gameloft, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Suggestive Themes, 800 Wii Points): Prepare for the frenzy of the coolest block-breaker game ever. Block Breaker Deluxe is a reinvention of the classic arcade brick-breaker game with a trendy graphical style, fun atmosphere and an exclusive multiplayer mode. Lively characters and amazing graphics provide distinctive settings of the jet-set nightlife, including a cool bar, dance club, casino and more. Special bricks, multiple bonuses, secret weapons, paddle size options and ball-speed variations make this fascinating game even more challenging. The Block Breaker Deluxe rage has arrived.

Cocoto Fishing Master (Neko Entertainment, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Welcome to the adventures of Cocoto, Fishing Master. Get ready for a completely new experience on Wii. Play the role of Cocoto and travel the world to find five millennial fish. Only they can stop the magic cauldron from overflowing with lava and prevent the world from being destroyed. Thanks to Cocoto Fishing Master for Wii, fishing has never been such fun. Use the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers like a real fishing rod to catch more than 30 different fish. Discover five enchanted lakes in five different worlds from Cocoto's universe. Confront gigantic bosses to collect each fragment of the statuette that will allow you to wake the great god Geo from his slumber. Meet Cocoto's friends, sell your fish to Baggy and buy new fishing equipment from Neuro's shop.

Virtual Console

SAMURAI SHODOWN (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Animated Blood, Crude Humor, Violence, 900 Wii Points): This first entry in the extremely popular and revolutionary fighting-game series was released in 1993. Choose from 12 swordsmen with highly individualistic characteristics and fight furiously, ultimately confronting the evil Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. Each character wields his or her own specific weapon, but you must be careful not to lose it during the heat of battle. Some of the fighters also bring an animal companion into the fray, offering a unique aspect to the quick-paced action. Another significant feature of the game is the anger gauge, which indicates the level of anger felt by each of the combatants as they suffer repeated injuries. If the anger reaches its maximum level, the attacking ability of the character increases, leading to even more intense confrontations. Through it all, the refined camera system smoothly zooms in and out of the playing field, presenting the frenzy of the battle while showcasing the lively background (watch as the referee scores hits). Awaken the samurai spirit within and get ready for a new kind of fight.

At least this puts to rest the thought that SNK was pulling VC support.

You dick. Just kiddin'.

Nintendo once again proves that there is no point trying to figure out what is going to be released, because you will be wrong.

Is Ball Breaker Deluxe the game that had all the sleazy/"cool" drawings of people in ridiculous poses? If so, later day purchase.

Someone really needs to ask Reggie why NA is getting the shaft on VC games.

They insist on shoving WiiWare games down our throat. NoA is making a (comparatively) huge push while NoE & NCL seem to not give a damn. Based on my personal preferences, I sorta wish I lived in Europe or Japan at the moment. :lol

Well, we get one VC game again this week, BUT at least it's a good one. I've been waiting for Samurai Shodown since Japan got it last October! Come on Shodown II!!

Two WiiWare games a week is a great precedent to attempt to set at least. If they can somehow keep a total of three games a week between VC and Wiiware coming steadily down the pipeline, I'll be impressed.

This is really a shame, I was looking forward to buying Samurai Shodown back last year when Japan got it, but it's taken so damn long to come over here that I might as well wait for SS2, since that's already been rated.

Quite a few Neo Geo games coming out these days...and there's plenty more rated. It would be great, at least if we got more than 1-2 games per week. I don't want to see a week's quota filled by Burning Fight alone.

Question for folks who got the Japanese release of SamSho - what blood mode is the VC version set to, ala NeoGeo region and violence switches? Green blood, red blood, kill moves on or off..?

What is SamSho 2 rated? M or T?

I was really looking forward to SamSho 1 and 2, then realized "it's Nintendo AND SNK USA. They'll probably release the VC versions in 2008 censored."

When it was first released, Samurai Showdown caused concern in America due to the amount of blood it contained. It was subsequently censored when released in the US, sadly removing much of its appeal (not to mention realism – it’s hard to hit someone with a katana and not draw a little blood, after all). Astonishingly, the Virtual Console release has all the gore intact - this should come as quite a shock to anyone who remembers the toned-down version of Mortal Kombat that SNES fans had to endure all those years ago! Nintendo has obviously relaxed its stance!

Actually, after doing very little investigation, this week certainly could've been better.

Cocoto fishing master was already released on ps2/gamecube, but was updated with nunchuk/wiimote controls.

Block Breaker Deluxe was a cellphone game, updated with multiplayer and stupid backgrounds.

I hope this trend doesn't stick.

I don't know much about the Samauri Showdown series but I really enjoyed the game when I played it in arcades a long time ago; should I get the first one or hold out for a better version later? Like Metal Slug; the first is good, but the second and third are where the series really shines.

Was I the only one really hoping that they would release Animales De La Muerte this week?

They haven't released Gyrostarr yet, and that is far further along in development (complete, actually, IIRC) so I wouldn't get my hopes up for AdM yet.

Oh yeah, now the name is familiar. The series which consists of games called Cocoto + generic title. I guess as an owner of Wii Sports/Fit I can't bash that naming choice too much, though.

I was hoping to get it as well. I'm not buying anything else on VC/WiiWare until I can get that, I want to make sure I have enough room.

The game isn't scheduled for release until this fall. It was never planned as a launch window title.

Hadn't heard that before...damn.

God... the SNK lover in me would love to get SamSho, but really, there's almost no way you could justify doing so when you know that its sequel is coming, and that its sequel is still one of the best 2D fighters ever.

If you can, get both. You never know, SSII might not come out for months.......just warning you.

EDIT: Reposting the question so it doesn't get skipped, Anyone know how many blcoks Samurai Shodown needs?

I'm really hoping we get SMRPG along with Japan some time this month. Its going to cost an extra 100 or 200 points right? Then I hope Nintendo is making a point to release it at the same time in all regions.

Considering I have SamSho II in numerous other ways, including the original home Neo cart, I'm pretty sure I can wait.

It shouldn't, as the game was released on the Super NES in the US as well.
unless they use the "licensing surcharge" excuse because they have to pay SE to release it.

It lists 147 in the Shop, so it should be within a block or so of that. On a side note, Cocoto Fishing Master takes 307!

I'm saving this for latter use. Awesome. It always amazes me how positive I get 30 minuted before the update goes up. :lol Shining Force 2 will come! Oh, yes. I may be old, bald, with a scraggly beard, banging my cane on my porch yelling about Kids on my virtual lawn and how in my day we had to play games with controllers and only 16 bits (and we liked it!) but it will come.

If Nintendo would release SF2, I feel like I'd be more apt to pick up a random game here and there, rather than just waiting around.

Oh good, so it's not as large as KOF '94. I only need to clean out one N64 game. WOO HOO!! :D

Disappointing week, so par for the course.

Is Block Breaker just a Breakout clone? Bah, if I want that, I'll dig out my old copy of Arkanoid: Doh It Again on SNES, probably my favourite game of that type. After all, Block Breaker may have "sleazy" pictures (whatever THAT means), but does it have boss fights with giant Moai heads? Didn't think so.

I heard there was going to be extra points charged in Japan because of licensing fees (like TMNT on NES was here, also because we all know how Square and digital distribution is.) But either way, I hope SMRPG launches this month in the US and Europe/Australia.

There's basically a RPG tax in Japan. Almost all RPG titles and other lengthy games are additional 100 points above the normal cost in Japan. I would SMRPG to hit for the regular 800 points in North America & 900 points in Europe since it's an import.
