Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

King of Monsters is solid. Not great, but solid. Actually been waiting for it. No nothing about the racing game.

Still overall yet another underwhelming (though not absolutely horrible) week for NA. Good job NOA, you never fail to disappoint.

King of Monsters is pretty lame, and I was kind of dreading the wasted week it would bring. I wish Break In had come out too, just to get two upcoming games that I don't care about out of the way at the same time. As it stands, with three weeks left in the month, we should get a TG-16 game weekly now. Chances are Star Parodier will be last, if only to make us suffer. The question is, will the TG games be all we get for the next three weeks, or will they also be accompanied by mediocre NeoGeo games? Ninja Commando is still in the wings...

Heh . . . when I saw that King of the Monsters was the sole release this week, my second thought (I won't reveal my first, lest I be accused of whiny petulance) was why couldn't NoA have thrown Break In in as a second VC title as well. Great minds, I guess . . .

I'm sure we'll get one - two titles above the known TG-16 games in July, but I can guarantee that Star Parodier will be the last TG-16 game released this month - when Hudson lists the games on their website, they're listed in order of release, and Star Parodier is listed last in the upcoming games for July list.

We'll get it after Square-Enix runs out of games that people aren't asking for, such as Rad Racer and The 7th Saga and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. :(

I really liked that game. That was my first Final Fantasy.

Part of me would love to replay SoE. I got somewhere in the middle and drove myself crazy trying to trade stuff in the one town. Next time, I'll try to avoid that.

I see their servicing the Neo Geo over the NES/SNES library at this point. I guess that means mode 7 and special chip games are less likely to see the light of day.

Depends on the chip... they've already emulated the SA1 (Mario RPG). And most 2nd gen and later NES games used mappers. Hell a ton already on VC did (Zelda, Metroid, Mario 2-3, etc, etc).

I'll admit it . . . I couldn't justify spending $60+ on FF: Mystic Quest back in the '90s (I tried to talk myself into it, but in the end I just couldn't), but I'll take the plunge for $8, if only out of morbid curiousity.

One game every week still going strong I see. If they intend to release about 50 additional games per console before they shut the service down, I should be able to get Pilotwings 64 sometime between next week and the summer of 2015. Awesome.

Yeah... I'm a bit less optimistic about getting OOT MQ and MM at this rate. :/
You should have never been optimistic about OOT MQ in the first place. As for MM, have we seen any N64 games utilizing the expansion pack hit the service yet?

Well, both were on GameCube, so it's not exactly strange to think we'd get them on Wii. And Wii should have enough RAM to manage the RAM pak emu better hopefully.

If you think of it as "Mystic Quest: A fun, SNES RPG" you should be ok. It really isn't like an FF game much at all, but that doesn't mean it is terrible.

As much as I like King of the Monsters back in the day, I'm dissapointed that it is the only VC game this week. NOA has been doing 1 game one week then 2 the next week and this was supposed to be a 2 VC game week........

And to think, the "norm" used to be three freakin' games.

Look at it this way- next Monday we'll get a stacked release of Mega Man and Mario RPG.

And to think all other territories are receiving more than one game a week + it's been 2-3 week that Euro guys are having like 4 !!

NOA really is fucking cheap on us.

$60+? Where were you buying your games?!? The game's MSRP was only $39.99.

No, I'm pretty sure the game was priced $59.99, if not higher. I saw the game at Best Buy I think. Square & (especially) Koei games had premium pricing back in the day. I don't remember FF: Mystic Quest being an exception to the rule . . . heck I probably would've bit had it been $39.99. :lol Maybe it got discounted after lukewarm sales, dunno?

Someone really needs to ask Reggie just what the fuck is going on with the American Virtual Console because this is really getting ridiculous. I'm sure Nintendo, like any other sane business out there, wants to make money. They can fucking do so by releasing more games.

I'm willing to spend as long as there are games available that interest me to a certain extent (and I have the money to part with), but for the most part, that simply hasn't been the case recently, unfortunately.

Want Mega.

MEGA!!!

On that note, I'm surprised to see people who can still find it in themselves to be disappointed at all by the Wii-kly Update. One would think we'd be used to this by now.

I know I am.

Want Mega Man.

Well, I have the amazing ability to hype myself up about 30 minutes prior to the press release. Every week, it's "Oh, it's almost time for the press release... Oh boy! It's going to rock today! Shining Force 2!" :D

I'm a true optimist, sadly.

ESRB:

Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millennium SEGA of America Everyone Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes Wii
Somebody also found these further back in the ratings:
Fatal Fury Special SNK Playmore USA Teen Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence Xbox 360, Wii
Earthworm Jim Interplay Prods Everyone Animated Violence Wii
Boogerman Interplay Prods Everyone Comic Mischief Wii
Clayfighter 63 1/3 and Clayfighter Extreme Interplay Prods Teen Mild Animated Violence, Comic Mischief PlayStation/PS one, Wii
Now does that last one mean VC is getting both Clayfighter 63 1/3 and Extreme, both together in one game, one of the two, or what?

Interesting pattern here. I guess it would be worthwhile to predict Neo Turf Masters next week. They seem to be really Neogeo focused for whtever reason.

NeoGeo is the WORST thing to happen to VC. Ive not dled a game in forever because they release ok NeoGeo games I allready have since I got the SNK collection for 15 bucks.

I think the last game I got was Wave Race 64 on launch day....(wikipeida'd it up)...holy god its been 11 months? Seriously? Nintendo, get some good N64 games on this shit ASAP as I DO want to give you my money.

I still have the Clayfighter 63 1/3 Cart. IS Clayfighter Extreme the Blockbuster exclusive that had the full roster of characters that they originally cut from the 63 1/3 release like the hand, the dog , the statue of liberty, the three kids atop each other or is it something else? The Snes clayfighters were better, hope we see those.

My Wii is still broken and will not turn on why are we getting bad weeks

Obviously you need to knock it around a couple hundred times with a sledgehammer. Only then will we get Ys: Book I & II, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, and Shining Force 2 next Monday.

Wasn't the collection pretty bad, though, at least on the PS2?

What the fuck?? Enough with the fucking mediocre NeoGeo games.

I slightly modified that statement. Nobody will complain about Neo-Geo games once they finally start getting to stuff like KOF97-98, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Real Bout games, Garou MOTW, Twinkle Star Sprites, Magical Drop III, etc.

Then again, it's not so much the problem with mediocre Neo-Geo games, its the fact that there's no other VC games released in a week.

I want my fucking Star Parodier already.

That ClayFighter listing baffles me.

According to Wikipedia ClayFighter Extreme was the PS1 analog of 63 1/3 (Not necessarily the same game though) and was never released. So it would sound to me like that would have to be a Wiiware game since:

A) It's a compilation and thus a new game
B) The code for Extreme is not emulatable for Nintendo

That is unless they can use the same rating for ClayFighter 63 1/3 in which case they can release that. Then that only raises further questions of what will happen with ClayFighter 63 1/3: Sculpter's cut or could that rating include it?

ESRB RPG pile of VC want...

-Earthbound (Nintendo/Ape/HAL Laboratory)
-Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millenium (SEGA)
-Shining Force II: Ancient Sealing (SEGA/Sonic! Software Planning)
-Ys Book I & II (Hudson/Falcom/Alfa System)

...think we'll get one next week? Next month? Next year? :(

Nintendo is being douche baggy about all this.

I've tried to stay pretty positive about the whole VC thing. Honestly, the VC was one of the biggest selling points for me in wanting to get a Wii. I used to look forward to Monday mornings-- or JSnake's leaks, whichever came first-- but there's no point now.

Today's release list exemplifies the problem. Whereas we used to get 2-3 VC games per week, now we get one... and it's been all NEO-GEO, all the time lately (save for the random Sega Master System or NES addition). I can understand that Nintendo might want to shift some focus onto the WiiWare venture... but there was only one game for WiiWare, too. (POGS? Please.)

There's still so much untapped potential with the VC... so many games that could (and should) see the light of day, but haven't or won't. My money will be spent better elsewhere. Until Nintendo rededicates some effort to the Virtual Console, it's nothing more than a waste of space and a grand tease now.

The other bad thing about the NeoGeo releases is that there's potential to be screwed coming up. If Fatal Fury Special is rated and is thus coming out, then I feel bad for anyone who shelled out for Fatal Fury 2 last week. World Heroes 2 is on the ESRB list and I'd like to buy it when it hits (which, at this rate, will probably be within a month), but if they've got World Heroes 2 Jet waiting in the wings, I'm not touching WH2. The only NeoGeo game I'm interested in right now is Samurai Shodown 2, and that alone already stopped me from buying Samurai Shodown 1.

In the case of stuff like Samurai Shodown 1&2, or the various KOFs, you can't really blame them for releasing them and eclipsing the previous versions. But for WH2 Jet and FF Special, they really shouldn't even bother with the previous version.

Once again, Nintendo's PR continues to annoy. "Excess"? Yes, two titles, neither of which look very interesting, is considered excess. Well, by Nintendo's current standards, I suppose. >:(

King of the Monsters is a pretty good game, but the second one is even better... that one's pretty great, really. I have the SNES version of KOTM2, it's a very good port. :)

As for that Clayfighter listing, that is odd, isn't it.

Indeed, very strange... I hadn't heard of Clayfighter Extreme before, but if it was a cancelled PS1 game... what are they doing with it? Odd...

As for Clayfighter 63 1/3 for Wii, though... it's a horrible game, really. Maybe fun in a stupid way for an hour (or less) as you look at the entertaining characters, but the gameplay is awful. Button mashing wins the day every time (unless you want to memorize combos)... the N64 may not have been as good at 3d fighting games as its competitors, but it had other ones a LOT better than this. Fighter's Destiny, Flying Dragon, Mace: The Dark Age, etc...

And I'm pretty sure this is the most time that's passed since I last got a VC game.
