Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

So apparently on level 8 if you have a respawning thing and you die you can just stay inside the wall and wait until the end of the first segment until you respawn, is this an emulation glitch or was it also possible on the Turbo CD?

^^^^^

Interesting exploit you found. I couldn't tell you though as it's new to me. I'm sure someone in the Shmup forum's VC thread could clarify.

Yes, Homestar Ruiner is the name of the first episode.

Homestar Runner is the character, it's obviously a pun.

What is the character in your avatar from? I like it, looks like a Twinbee yet somehow not.

Now that we've got Star Parodier what are the chances that we'll get Parodius? I know they are from two different developers (and publishers) but I think it would be really cool if Konami would man up and release Parodius on the virtual console.

Oh, really?

So you'd prefer to see the VC without many of the awesome TG-16 games, like the aforementioned Star Soldier series, the Neutopia games, Gate of Thunder, and Lords of Thunder, among others? Oh, and you'd also rather not have the Sonic games, Golden Axe, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, and the other myriad gems in the Genesis library? And let's not forget the Neo-Geo. There are great games not to be found on Nintendo systems, shocking though it may seem to you.

Why not try to expand your horizons a bit?

I mean that to quit the whining and complaining. People will ONLY be satisfied when every single SNES classic that's not on the VC already comes out on the same week. Personally, I'm having a lovely time with this week's selection but I'm just tired of everyone talking about how much they hate Nintendo every week when they still come to this thread every Monday.

Everyone expects Nintendo to do exactly what they want, and Nintendo never does, so when people assume that they will, they set themselves up for disappointment all the time. Then what's worse is that even the thread title has to be all negativity making it worse for everyone, even us who try to enjoy what we get, realizing that we don't HAVE to get anything every week.

I'd have to agree with Edag.

I haven't bought anything from the VC in months because nothing decent has come out yet I'm not rowing my paper-boat down a river of tears every week cause of it.

It's not about every game ever being released next week. That's irrational.

Someone post a comparison with the japanese VC so we remember the hate.

At this point it isn't even comparing it to the JP releases, it's the loads of backlogged games that have even had press releases, and yet, somehow do not show up on the service.

Holy shit Star Parodier looks amazing. I just watched the first 20 minutes or so and that has to be some of the best music I've heard on the system (although Gate of Thunder is badass). Thank you Hudson for being oh-so awesome.

Games that get rated and then not released I can at least understand, but games that get press releases saying they're coming out the next week then don't... that just doesn't make sense. :lol

I honestly wish I had some room on my Wii for these games, I'm usually the Wii apologist I defend everything - except this storage crap! >:|

I want to spend moneys on you and your 3rd parties Nintendo. ;( Gimme the means to without having to delete all my old stuff. ;(

Ok, i never finish Shmups because they're all damned too hard. (and i don't have 40 hours a week to practice).

Is Star Parodier easy for real? Would i have a chance in hell to finish this one? The difficulty compare to what other games?

I kind of suck at shooters and I still managed to finish it in one day. Like most shooters, its pretty easy if you have fully powered up weapons, but it becomes difficult if you get yourself killed and have to power up your weapons again. I don't play a lot of shooters but compared to the few I've played, its pretty lenient in that getting hit only kills you if your weapons are at level 2 or lower (otherwise it just drops you down one weapon level).

So I suspect that in terms of the games we should have had last week and did not get this week, that Nintendo had already picked the next week of games. I mean, both the games this week were listed on VC-PCE for this week, it was just that Ys was listed first. So I figure whenever those publishers tried to get their games rescheduled, they had to go at the end of the confirmed release line. Just speculation, of course, but it seems logical enough.

Its hard not to be when arguing with people who say Nintendo's offerings are just constant shit all the while your main problem with the system is not having enough space to download all the good games you want to play.

Oh, I hope so. As many versions as possible :)

Twin Bee would be a nice addition, too, Konami - especially Pop'n Twin Bee and Twin Bee Rainbow Bell Adventures on the SNES/SF :D

You really don't have the four brain cells necessary to square those two complaints? Do you have your own personal entry in Ripley's Believe It or Not?

Yeah I can kind of see why people are complaining about Star Parodier being too easy now. I just played through with the PC-Engine ship and I didn't lose my first life until after I defeated the level 7 boss and got hit by one of his stray bullets while he was in his death animation. I died a handful of times on the second half of level 8 but I had enough respawns to carry me through to the end. The homing missiles pretty much break the game when using the PC-Engine. Does hard mode make much of a difference?

*scratches head*

GAF: Wah wah there are no good games to play!
Me: Wah wah there are so many good games to play I don't have enough space on my Wii for them all.

Um, I guess not?

My point is I guarantee you despite a couple of great games this week, next week if its a few games no one cares about it'll be like three posts before FUCK YOU NINTENDO! THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ANY GOOD GAMES IN MONTHS!!

Those over-reactions could be put to better use.

I've been singing the praises for Parodius in this thread for quite a while now, and to see it on the VC (as I've only played the first one myself) would be fantastic. I'm not the biggest fan of Gradius, but the quirky art design, bizarre but lovable music, and varied cast of characters in the Parodius games set them apart in my mind.

That, and you get to blow up an eagle wearing an Uncle Sam hat, which is awesome.

Japan's ultra special weekly update:

Nothing

All games reschedualed for 8/19 those include:

Nazo no Murasamejou
Lord Monrach
Star Parodier

And some of the songs are patriotic themes!

I just bought Metal Slug on the VC, and I'm not seeing the bosses flash when I hit them like I remember.

Hm, I thought the hit-flashes were retained for the VC release. I know Nintendo forced them out of the Metal Slug Anthology (though they're still present on a number of bosses) and I know they're intact in the SNK Arcade Classics collection.

I think Nintendo must've forced them out of the VC release as well. Dammit.

Any chance of NES Pinball games -

Rock 'n' Ball
Pinball Quest
Rollerball

coming to VC? I'd love to be able to play them wirelessly from across the room on the TV.
Devil's Crush was nice.

Rock n' Ball is published by NTVIC and developed by Vap, whom I believe both no longer exist, so I wouldn't count on that one.

Pinball Quest is from Jaleco, and Rollerball is from Hal, both of whom are supporting the VC, so they are certainly possibilities.

Nintendo is adjusting the flashing stuff in ALL VC releases if needed.

This is because their health prevention rules and Lotcheck (prog guidelines) are way more severe now than back in the day.

You will notice it doesn't flash multiple times anymore when you beat a Bowser kid in SMB3.

I wonder how they're going to neuter PSI Flash in Earthbound. That effect was pretty intense and I can't see it passing Nintendo's new guidelines.

Oh, wait, silly me. They're not going to release Earthbound.

So how are they adjusting the flashes in these games? Something in the emulator itself or an actual code change to the game?

Code change in the game. VC is not just a rom drop, they have to touch the code of almost every single release.

Pinball Quest was fucking awesome, practically no one seems to even know about it. VC is full of fail and disappointment now though, I can't even bother to get excitement for anything I really wanted to see, especially obscure stuff (I'd kill for Guardian Legend).

Advice needed -- if you had to choose between Ghosts 'n Goblins (GEN) or Super Ghosts 'n Goblins (SNES), which would it be? I have a craving for some GnG action, but I only want one. Chances are the TG port won't come.

P.S. I just bought Majora's Mask as well.

I'll guess...

Ys Book I & II
My Aquarium
Some crappy NES game nobody wanted

# of SNES/N64 games released since March = 1 (compare w/ 11 released in the same timeframe in 2007)

My little sister starts school tomorrow.

All summer long, we anticipated Majora's Mask because she wanted to play it, the Zelda Collection disk keeps crashing (really a problem for Majora), and she had the summer off to play it.

If it comes out tomorrow.... oh dear.
