Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Nuclear Muffin said:
The big reason why N64 games on VC don't support rumble is because they are designed to be used by the Classic Controller (Which doesn't have rumble) Nintendo are just too lazy to add proper Rumble and Controller Pak support.
Classic Controller has rumble. It just dangles from a cord and is supposed to sit in your crotch.

Sonic & Knuckles and Phantasy Star IV are the only remaining games on Sega's side, I believe, as well. Judging by that list of games, VC looks to be about done.

Super Mario RPG? I'll bite.

They picked a real crappy time for Mario RPG, with all the RPGs coming out for next gen systems.

I'll have to wait until I've gone through all the RPGs out now before I DL Mario RPG.

The GBC games were about half as fun as the console games. There's nothing like Mario Golfing with four of your friends.
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!?!

The RPG elements in the GBC games made them GODLY. I will defend Mario Golf and Mario Tennis until my bones rot.

Thisthisthis. I'd actually consider placing the GBC games above the N64 ones because of those modes alone. I wish we could get DS sequels with online play :(

I have some issues with Mario Tennis, but I would agree that Mario Golf GBC is the best Mario Golf title yet made. Fun without needless complexity.

The RPG aspects are what ruined the game for me. Unbelievably boring. Mario Golf 64 and the far superior sequel Toadstool Tour offered unadulterated fun. I made the mistake of buying both sports games on GBC and then again on GBA.

Cheesemeister, you are forgetting Super Mario Kart in the SNES list.

Nuclear Muffin said:
Also, there's nothing stopping Nintendo from releasing SNES and NES games with special chips. They could get them up and running pretty easily (They did design the hardware and have full access to all documentation you know) so I wouldn't think about crossing them off the possible list (Especially since SMRPG used the SA1 chip, which is actually one of the toughest SNES chips to emulate)

We went over this on the last page. While it's entirely possible for Nintendo to do, the engineering cost of reproducing the on-board chips in software emulation has to be outweighed by the potential profits in a cost-benefit analysis. That, and it takes time to do. This is probably why we didn't see Super Mario RPG earlier.

Cheesemeister said:
Yes, exactly. :D

So in summary, we can probably only still expect the following from Nintendo...

NES
Pro Wrestling
Star Tropics II: Zoda's Revenge

Super NES
Earthbound
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Super Play Action Football
Super Punch-Out!!

N64
Donkey Kong 64
Excitebike 64
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Mario Golf
Mario Party
Mario Party 2
Mario Party 3
Mario Tennis
Pilotwings 64
Super Smash Bros.

And if the Tetris license is re-upped, these...

Tetris (NES)
Tetris 2 (NES/SNES)
Tetris Attack (SNES)
Tetrisphere (N64)
The New Tetris (N64)

It would be nice to get some SMB2: Yoshi's Island on there as well.

So, can anyone tell me if the Fire Temple music in the VC version of OoT is the same as the original, or is it the "reworked" one?

reworked.

any changes from the original version aren't being reverted anytime soon. better hunt for the gold carts if you want the original experience intact.

Sonic & Knuckles and Phantasy Star IV are the only remaining games on Sega's side, I believe, as well.

There's a few more. Aside from the obvious Shining Force II and eventual US releases for ESWAT, Crack Down, and Vectorman, there's also some of their other stuff like Flicky, Jewel Master, Chakan, Last Battle, Mystic Defender, Vectorman 2, OutRun, X-Perts, etc., plus a ton of potential Master System releases.

And I could have sworn I read some idiot a while back feigning insider information and warning us that the VC was winding down. :lol

What was the original experience?

With the announcement of SoM for VC I just sold my SNES and games (only a few games) ^^

Well selling it as we speak XD

Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore (can live without)
FF:Mystic Quest (will miss it a bit)
illusion of Gaia (never even played it :/)
and a couple more RPGs I havent replaced

easy 100 bucks ^^ (I got the FF games on GBA re-release simply because SNES batteries die sometime, better to get rid of them before the battery dies and get $$ for it ^^)

SUPER MARIO RPG?!

Would anyone like to bestow upon this hard working law enforcement officer 1 Wii point (I have 700 :() because I have NO idea where my credit card is and SMRPG is my favorite SNES game ever :D.

3751 4589 6182 2887 - my Wiiner code - if you had me on your friends list before I know it's a different code, because my Wii boinked out on me and Nintendo sent me a new one JUST before my one year was up.

Bug fixes. Fire Temple music with Muslim chanting was replaced with a stripped down, non-chanting version of the song. Some symbols were removed/replaced (such as various instances of moon and star configurations), including an appearance on the Mirror Shield. Ganondorf coughs up green blood when defeated, instead of red.

A few other miscellaneous changes along that vein.

If you want to see, hear, and play the original OoT, you'll need to track down a gold cart or one of the early batches of gray carts that released alongside the gold ones. Later revisions, including all later GCN/Wii ports, emulations, or compilations, and later cart batches, feature the changes listed above.

Whats funniest about this is that these weeks are still 2 game weeks and only 1 good game in them, I think the crappy game release was the best move Ninty did because now everyones freaking out about how VC rocks again ^^

What? Both of last week's VC games were awesome.

You calling Clu Clu shitty? That game is a saint.

Super excited, bought Super Mario RPG.

Add that to my Breath of Fire II and there you go, only buying SNES RPGs for me!

Anyway, the game is stretched to fit the widescreen and is really pixaly. I don't play VC games, is there a way to unstretch it so its a bit better?
The only way I've found is if you have a setting on your TV that lets you play 4:3 content normally. Like my TV has a wide button on the remote, and I just hit that and it goes from 16:9 to 4:3. That's all I can really recommend though. :/

thanks to my good buddy Penguin who gifted me this game - I owe you one buddy.

I love Super Mario RPG - first RPG game I ever played - good stuff - the music rocks too.

Mario Golf and Mario Tennis also utilize the expansion pack to unlock extra characters. I wonder what Nintendo will do about that.

Also, I think we should add Mario's Super Picross (SNES) to the list of potential releases since it got released in Europe. There's no reason for it to not come out in NA. Another easy to import title would probably be Kirby's Super Star Stacker.

My personal list of top three games that I'm waiting for:
Pilotwings 64 (N64) - I lLOVED the music for the hanglider stages.
Mischef Makers (N64)
Secret of Mana (SNES)

I just need EarthBound, Mother, and StarTropics II.

hah, I just got Startropics II in the mail last week, and have been playing it in the ole NES all weekend. I can't believe I didn't pick this up back when it came out (way to late in the NES's lifespan mind you). Cleopatra telling you to go get her a pizza before she will help you is hilarious. Also, being able to jump diagonal all messed with my brain for the first hour. Great time though.

Give me Earthbound Nintendo. Please sweet god, give me Earthbound. (SMRPG has already been bought!)

An update: I don't mean the OTHER games are shitty... I should clarify, I meant like its this one big game every week people are freaking out over ^^

Going nuts over a single game type situation ^^ the others are good but lets face it, if we hadn't had these few good weeks and those games had come up without the other game released with them we would still have a negative title to the thread ^^

The characters are unavailable in the VC versions. As are the special tournaments.

Mockingbird said:
I seem to have lost the memo, but now that SMRPG's out, what's the full list of games that we should be bitching for again? All I can recall from the list is Earthbound.
1, 2, and 3) Interplay-announced games: Boogerman, Clayfighter, and Earthworm Jim.

4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) Games that have been ESRB-rated or OFLC-rated for months, or in some cases over a year: Dragon Slayer, Earthbound, Final Soldier, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Phantasy Star IV, and Shining Force II.

10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15) Games that were released in other regions and have no translation issues getting in the way: Gradius II, M.U.S.H.A., Mario's Super Picross, Vectorman, Warsong, and Wings of Wor.

16 and 17) Games in series with multiple other entries available on the service: Adventures of Lolo 3, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.

And that's certainly not covering everything. It's unbelievable how quick some people in here turned around on VC and forgot that for months Nintendo was putting out next to nothing that was in demand even though it didn't need to be that way. (Not you, Mockingbird, but just referring to those who were in here complaining each week and are now rejoicing because of such a grand miracle as two good weeks. Personally, I'll keep complaining until Nintendo does quite a bit more for me, thanks. :/)

I got 1600 points left and several games I can buy. Looking for 2 800 point games.

Considering:
ActRaiser
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, or 3
Super Mario RPG
Super Turrican or Mega Turrican
Gunstar Heroes
Lords of Thunder
Ys

What do y'all recommend?
Donkey Kong Country 2, definitely. Then take your pick of Gunstar Heroes, Lords of Thunder, and Ys depending on which genre you like most.

I only played the GBA versions, which most people say weren't as good, but I agree entirely. We need more sports RPGs.

Dude, just concentrate on getting your credit card situation fixed before thinking about playing video games.

Out of the games I wanted I no longer want Kirby Superstar due to the DS release. Same with Chrono Trigger. Still need FFVI and Sonic 3 and Knuckles though! Oh and Earthbound

Nintendo needs to release that Excitebike clone with the Mario characters in the US.
That game was never finished. There were 4 versions of it on the Satellaview, all with different tracks and one or two different characters. You also had to wait for specific times in real life to even start the game.

EDIT: PEGI just rated Sonic & Knuckles.

I was organizing my fridge today and I saw mario and luigi swimming as the download animation. Cute.

When I saw that there was a ton of coins coming the other direction so that it looked like Mario and Luigi was swimming through them (I'm assuming it was the same for you). Having just dropped a nice sized chuck of change on VC titles to fill up my fridge I thought Nintendo was doing a slight bit of humor there at my expense (*cue Iwata moneybin .gif*).

Yesssss... Clu-Clu Land! And also SMRPG. Been 2 excellent weeks for the VC. Let's see if Nintendo can go 3 for 3 and release either Shining 2 or PS4 or Dragon Slayer next week.

So. Nintendo. Sega.

Sonic & Knuckles?

Maybe they just haven't figured out how to do the lock-on thing yet.

I know I've been beaten but it's worth it.

All our VC dreams are actually coming true?

Yesterday I bought 1000 more points to download Mario RPG. When I went to download it it failed. Said to try again.

I tried again later. Failed even quicker.

Store took forever to load each time.

Failed again. Error messages every time.

So I gave up. I paid my $8 and never got my game.

Today I try again. Now I can't even LOAD THE DAMN STORE!

Did it die? Did we kill the store?

I'm getting an Error Code 209600

I go to support.nintendo.com like it says and enter the number.

It says the number doesn't exist!

What the hell?

This is why they won't release Earthbound. It would probably incinerate the servers completely.
