Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

As far as Kirby games go, I've always lumped them into two categories: games with stars to collect and power alteration, and Kirby games that kick ass. It really did feel like there were two different teams involved in the series due to the two very distinct styles.

Kirby's Dreamland
Kirby's Adventure
Kirby Superstar
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror

All are awesome, creative, fast paced, and stand out in some way in the series.

Kirby's Dreamland 2
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Kirby and the Crystal Shards

All three have stars to collect and reduce the amount of enemies you can get powers from so that you can mix them up either with other powers or with animal friends. They are slower, easier, and much more basic. The power mixing gives you some fun powers, but it is much more effort to get anything cool, since there are two steps involved instead of one. The levels are also all very long, but very cramped and make Kirby's natural flight ability almost useless. Dreamland 2 is ok, but I had to give up on the others because they were so dull.

Of course canvas curse looks just like the latter category with the stars to collect and limited powers, but it is the best game in the series. I skipped Squeak Squad, because it resembled the look and feel of the better games, but just didn't seem very original. It felt like I had played the game already and the new features seemed less than interesting.

Just one, and it's 1080?

What a load of horseshit... what is going on with Nintendo recently? There's no reason why we couldn't get 3 or even 4 titles on the VC every week for the life of the console.

maybe they have less lined up in the que then we've been led to believe

1080 is still the best snowboarding sim ever created.

That's just marvelous... for people who like snowboarding games.

A good game is a good game, snowboarding or not. Have you ever played 1080? Visually it hasn't aged with grace, but it still plays great. SSX is a better game in the end, but 1080 is still the only snowboarding game where you really have absolute control over how to land and place your board. There's just nothing else quite like it. It's a shame the Gamecube follow up sucked.

Okay, what the FUCK is up with landing in 1080? I never had this problem in Avalanche. And nowhere in the manual does it explain how to properly land. Also, my dude bumps into everything. There are some cool stages but this makes me want to pop in Avalanche, which is superior in every way (the music in 1080 64 is atrocious. My god).

Yeah, landing takes skill. It was one of my favorite parts about 1080. You need to press the crouch button just before you land or else you lose speed/fall.

Played this far more than Avalanche...

I'd rather have 1080 and two pieces of shovelware, just so that I can feel more secure about the future of VC. Right now I'm already bracing for the disappointment in case JSnake brings us news on Friday that there'll only be one game again, and that this time it won't even be a game that anybody likes.

Not to mention that that would mean 2 more games out of the way.

Eh, you guys are over the top with this Virtual Console anger. I don't have time to play all the new games I want to play, let alone snag things off of here once a week, too.

Every time I get a chance to look at the lineup, there are at least ten more games I'd like to get and I'm not going to dump $50 or more each time so I think Nintendo's pace is perfectly acceptable.

I don't have time to do both either. That's why I buy on VC immediately and either skip the retail discs or wait for them to drop in price. :D
Not that I'm indicative of any norm or anything, though, but I'm just saying: if I have to choose one or the other out of VC and retail games, I'm starting with the ones that aren't possibly going to drop in price and make me regret being an early buyer.

Sorry Jiggly, no VC games next week, and the week after? They start taking games away.
I'm actually expecting the first part for one or two weeks after they get Wii Ware up and running, and I won't mind it so much when that point comes.
Edit: And taking games away isn't unprecedented. I mean, Lost Levels in Europe and all. :(

A month ago, when I said they'd keep it to two titles a week, then 1, then 1 every other week/month, then stop entirely followed eventually by complete removal of the ability to purchase the games at all, well, I didn't actually want to start being correct so quickly.

Nintendo, you had a good thing going here, don't be so quick to stop it. I hope they throw up a 4 or 5 title week just to mess with us. And release Ogre Battle 64 somehow.

If only Sakurai were in charge of the VC

Mr. Parish, if you are reading this, any insight as to when you'll start doing the Roundup again? Mondays aren't the same without it.
Just as soon as Nintendo starts releasing games again.

Yeah, see, that's simply not true at all. A lot of people don't want to play a snowboard game, and "a good game" isn't just a good game. People like different things. People want to play different things.

The collective VC systems of Genesis, SNES, N64, NES, TG16, Neo Geo have huge libraries of quality games and they all appealed to different people for different reasons. I don't want to play 1080. I don't care if it's a good game; I want to play what I want to play. The whole point of a setup like the Virtual Console is you compile these huge libraries of games and give people access to them so they have the choices to get the games they want.

I'd rather have three games coming out because then at least there's a choice and at least maybe there's a greater chance that one of the games will be one that I want.

Something in the SSBB dojo thread may cheer up some of the doom and gloom in this thread.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light

NINTENDO HAVE GIVEN ONE OF THE JAPANESE FIRE EMBLEMS AN OFFICIAL ENGLISH TITLE!!! This means that an English release of one of the jpn Fire Emblems is now very likely :D

I hate to be a wet blanket, but are we sure that isn't the subtitle for the Fire Emblem 3 remake that is slated for the DS? I suppose I should check out the thread in question . . .

Couldn't agree more.

The depressing thing about seeing anything get rated these days is that with the slowed pace, it'll be that much longer before we get any of them. :/

Buying PS II or III is just ignorant anyways as you can get them on the GBA, or the PS2, or the PSP.

PS IV can be had on the PS2 or PSP.

PS on the other hand is primitive, but it will probably be the first time the US version has the FM synth music in it...

I was speaking generally. I've got the PSP Genesis collection, so Phantasy Star II on VC is kind of irrelevant to me, but if I see an OFLC or ESRB update in the future with--oh, say--Gleylancer, Mother 1, Magical Pop'n, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Soul Blazer, Final Soldier, Parasol Stars, Golvellius, Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, Bubble Bobble 2, Space Megaforce, Blazing Star, Windjammers, Bomberman 64, Demon's Crest, Lightening Force, Pocky and Rocky, Monster World IV, Fire 'N Ice, Warsong, or Crusader of Centy, it's going to physically burn.

It's already been much too long a wait for Mega Turrican, Shining Force 2, Dragon Slayer, Lords of Thunder, Ys Book I & II, and Super Turrican, and those were all rated well before the two-game weeks began. And then there's Do Re Mi Fantasy, which was rated either--I don't quite remember--very shortly before they began, or after they began but before anyone realized it was going to become a regular thing. If the VC pipeline has been building up a backlog for this long, I'm not sure how much hope I have for anything that's just getting rated here and now.

Hey guys I finally decided to join the party and bought a bunch of VC games.

I just have a quick question, before my brother moved from home, we used his Wii and now it's not getting played anymore and it's got some VC games on it I bought while he was here.
I was wondering if there's any way I could transfer the games I bought on his Wii to my Wii, I'm guessing not but hey worth asking about coz I'd be ecstatic if it's possible.

Anyway here's the games I bought:
Mega Man 2
Sin & Punishment
Donkey Kong Country 3
Sonic 3
Gunstar Heroes
Lylat Wars
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario Bros 2
Harvest Moon

and on my bros Wii is:
Kid Icarus
Super Mario World
Kirby (lol forget the proper name, Kirby's adventure?)
Castlevania, forget which one

Yay for retro gaming goodness.

No, no possibility whatsoever. It's tied to the Wii it was bought and downloaded on.

Damn. Got Wii Points for my birthday, but don't know what to spend it on.

Definitely getting StarTropics, but I don't want to impulse purchase some other stuff and have it turn out that Majora's Mask and EarthBound are to be released next week.

Don't worry. I can't wait for tomorrow, when JSnake will tell us exactly how many games we won't be getting on Monday. :D

Any idea for PAL releases tomorrow?
I personally expect two games the US has had for a while which are rated for us. Lolo 2 and Eternal Champions is my guess.

It could be a full fledged Sega week though since it's the first week of February (But there wasn't one in January so maybe not).

Don't call people's purchasing preferences ignorant. Some folks (like me) prefer to have the games on a console playable without any additional disc or media. Though I may not be completely happy with the VC, I'd rather have the games that way, all ready at the touch of a button, versus having games spread out across a number of game discs.

There's some ignorance here, but not where you think. On the PS2 and PSP genesis collection the graphics are filtered(ie blurry) and the GBA set is buggy and has poor music quality. The resolution must be shrunk down somehow as well.

At least in the US, a virtual console release is the only way to legally play a technically adequate version without the original cart.

I'm in a bit of a bind. I've got the GBA collection -- which isn't particularly great, has the PS1 bug, and ismissing PS4. And I've got the PSP collection, which is outstanding aside from missing PS1.

The save bug is bad enough that I'll almost surely get PS1 again on VC... but then I can't see myself going for a complete collection of all four games. Oh well. One more opportunity to support a series I love.

I had been thinking that Jiggy was overreacting to the one and two-game weeks.

Now, I'm not so sure.

But I'll wait for JSnake before I become a full-fledged doomsayer.
