Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Lolo 2 :D Already downloaded!

EDIT: Boo, I prefer the theme tune of the old game :( But as expected, my first death was due to a medusa head. Those things will be the end of me!

I had been thinking that Jiggy was overreacting to the one and two-game weeks.

Now, I'm not so sure.

But I'll wait for JSnake before I become a full-fledged doomsayer.

Yeah this is a bit troubling. I have a feeling it'll continue this way for quite a while. Maybe they have too much money and don't want anymore. No other reason for it.

Maybe 2 of the 3 guys that usually update are working on getting WiiWare up and running or something.

Hey, I haven't been joking around.
Well, I kind of was.

I can't wait for tomorrow, when JSnake will tell us exactly how many games we won't be getting on Monday.
Of course, that's for NA and not Europe, but still.

For once, Europe has it better than us. At least they had a game worth downloading in their one game week.

I'm joking, 1080 fans who are ready to stone me.

That's the thing, it's been a one game week for America and Europe, but both games have been excellent anyway! It could be a lot worse, look at it that way :) We're not at no games a week!(...yet <_< >_>)

And I'm really enjoying Lolo 2, but that was expected. I love level based puzzlers, and this is probably second only to Lemmings in that regard. It's definitely for those who've completed the first game though, I'm currently trying to work out the fiendish level 7!

Yeah, Lolo 2's pretty insane, and I mean that in all the right ways.

It makes me wonder how difficult it must be to come up with these levels. They're so cleverly designed, the creators must have had each and every aspect of the game mechanics branded into their minds. But then they did create them in the first place =P

Leaving it at what I think was level 12 for tonight. I look forward to more <3

I hate to be a wet blanket, but are we sure that isn't the subtitle for the Fire Emblem 3 remake that is slated for the DS? I suppose I should check out the thread in question . . .

FEIII = FEI = FEIII. Therefore, yes it probably refers to the DS game, but the DS game (which is guaranteed an English release) has the original scenario of Fire Emblem 1 included.

We all win.

Wait, the FE remake is a remake of 3, not (only) 1?

For your information, Ys is getting a DS remake too. <3 <3

I'm in a bit of a bind. I've got the GBA collection -- which isn't particularly great, has the PS1 bug, and ismissing PS4. And I've got the PSP collection, which is outstanding aside from missing PS1.

The save bug is bad enough that I'll almost surely get PS1 again on VC... but then I can't see myself going for a complete collection of all four games. Oh well. One more opportunity to support a series I love.

VC version should have the superior FM synth music too, as long as they emulate the superior japanese version of the SMS.

The save bug is funny. Just gotta remember not to save during the music loop in PS. There are no problems that I know of with the PSP versions of II-IV, and it is quite a bit cheaper. Heck I found it for $6!

We assume so. If the plan is to remake all the non portable ones for DS then doing Three gets rid of two birds with one stone. They aren't SquareEnix though, so who the fuck knows?

Nintendo is killing the VC as i know it. Or knew it.

With one or two games per week i can't expect to get some games that were awesome to me though probably not the most popular around people.

VC had a good run. Back to emus now.

I'd hate to know what you'd think about XBLA then.

What is the likelihood that they would release the original Smash Bros in the next couple weeks? I have a bunch of points to spend but I'm very stingy with my purchases.

So you haven't been paying the slightest bit of attention to the Virtual Console over the course of the past year, yeah?

Hint: they're not going to emulate the Japanese version with the FM synth. They're going to present it as identical to what it was in its original US release.

Dunno if it's old, but this article on VC versus used sale prices is pretty interesting. Looking at just Nintendo's stuff, they're undervaluing on 28 games but overvaluing on 23 games.

I like how most of the overvalued games are the ones nobody would want to play, except for some stuff like SMB1 and the Sonic games, which I guess are ubiquitous enough to still offset the demand with low prices.

Ahem. FM synth is a hardware feature and all the data remains in the US version of the game. All they would have to do is include it in the emulator itself. No additions to code.

Yeah, I noticed that too... most of the overvalued stuff in general seems to be on NES and Genesis actually. Meanwhile Hudson's practically giving away TG16 stuff compared to the used market. :lol

Overall system figures for those too lazy to click...

NES used $273.53
NES VC $288.00

SNES used $354.38
SNES VC $216.00

N64 used $169.42
N64 VC $102.00

Genesis used $406.59
Genesis VC $353.00

TG16 used $1,177.67 (minus 4 games even!)
TG16 VC $294.00

NeoGeo used $135.00
NeoGeo VC $72.00

Total used $2,516.59
Total VC $1,325.00

Well, a lot of the undervalued games are still things that no one would want to play. Dk jr. Math was over $11 on that list. It just happens to be relatively rare.

It's the same reason why Atlus titles are almost always $50-100 used within a year or two of their release, but (most) Squre-Enix titles can be had for $10-25 after a similar amount of time.

Donkey Kong Jr. Math's price is insanely high. I can't imagine anyone but the most diehard of diehard collectors paying any more than a buck for that game.

Bubble Bobble is oddly high, too.

But yeah, if you're an optimist, Smash being released might be a decent way to explain this away as a one-time thing (at least for Japan). With the demos Sakurai put in, Nintendo might be thinking that VC sales of games put up long ago are going to be boosted enough that new things put up this week would just get overshadowed.

No, the code handling the FM music on PS1 was cut from the game, so they could get it on a smaller cart.

Don't count on it.

There's pretty much a stalemate regarding the rights to the game and it'll likely never see the light of day again on any system.

EarthBound, on the other hand, is all Nintendo.
Give us our wish this week, NOA!

Yeah, I'm just setting myself up for disappointment. >.>

I just hope you wouldn't be setting yourself up for disappointment even if you said "this year."

I'm a little confused on the Earthbound situation, is there anything preventing Nintendo from releasing it? I played a little bit of the game through frowned upon measures when I was younger, I loved what I played, and I want to give Nintendo my 8 bucks. Why does this game seem to have no chance of being released?

There's absolutely nothing stopping Nintendo from releasing it. No licensing issues, no special chips or other technical issues...

Nintendo just refuses to release it. It's a superb game, Nintendo just tries to forget about it. I guess its lackluster sales when it debuted killed their enthusiasm for it.

We have to get Earthbound before Brawl comes out.

We just have to. ;_;
This is NOA.
They'll probably take the Earthbound trial out of Brawl, then release it on VC anyway--that very Monday after Brawl just, in their best attempt to ensure that it fails in sales again so that they can claim "legitimate" reason for not translating Mother 3.

Edit: And their attempt will fail when Starmen.net buys it in droves, but NOA will simply find another "legitimate" excuse anyway. :(

Optimism here, remember it?

NOA isn't evil, nor incapable of doing their job (that award goes to NOE) and I'm sure SSB and the three mother games will show up in some form or another in the next few months.

Don't make me link Pollyanna now.
