Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I wish I had played around a bit more with other weapons. The scout and sniper rifle felt so good there wasn't much incentive for me to change it up. Now that the alpha is over I find myself really curious about the feel of the other weapons.

I must have put at least 12-13 hours into the alpha over the course of two days. Loved it! Though, I always knew Bungie would deliver ;).

Rolled a Warlock, got that to level 8, before re-rolling a hunter and max-leveling that. I think I prefer the hunter, even though it's special seems a bit weaker compared to the Lock. That double jump! With the Warlock, I'd constantly throw myself off with that floating jump.

Any confirmation yet on the max level cap? I've heard level 20 being thrown around, which I really hope isn't the case. 40-50 would be a good cap.

So what was everyone's playtime? Since Friday afternoon, I accumulated ~17 hours of playtime across 32 games. I don't think that counts idle time or time in menus either, so I'd probably put it somewhere over 20 hours.

Going to agree with patriotpaine on this one. I've spent more time on the alpha in this short time than I have on any one game for well over a year. It did start feeling a bit repetitive, but only because a character wipe was inevitable. If it transferred to the beta, I knew of several things I could have occupied my time with for another day or two to keep ranking my character up. I upgraded the attack on my weapons literally two minutes before they shut the servers off.

So much to do in this game. And the best part is, I don't need to wait for friends to be online to do it. The way it's blending SP and MP gameplay just fits so well for when I simply want to hop on and shoot things hassle free.

Did anyone really see purpose to the different types of ammunition properties? Like fire rounds etc. Didn't seem like it made much of a difference, but I guess maybe they'll have bosses that are weak to certain things?

I've been playing since Thursday, around 2:30PM PST, and finished my last session around 10:00PM on Sunday evening. In that timeframe, I played around 23 hours or so, both story missions and Crucible. The beta and retail release will ruin my life.

Aside from the cool death animations, I didn't notice anything really off the bat. But whenever elemental modifiers are used in a game it typically means that things will be weak or strong against specific types.

Which would lead into more loot gathering and leveling of various weapons to have a full and well prepared arsenal.

Go with PSN so you don't sell it and regret it later. You also won't have to use a physical disc each time you want to play. Anyone else feel good about that? I liked just turning my console on and loading a game.

yea it feels good to go from game to game without having to change disc. all those free ps+ games showed me that.

Should get a code printed on your receipt is how i have heard normally gamestop does it in the US (EB which is GS in Australia have just adopted this).

Apparently though you can preorder at all these places in the US for beta code:

Amazon,
Gamestop
Walmart
Best Buy
PS Store
thanks, ill check in gamestop or walmart and from there ill decide if i preorder the game there or buy a 60$ psn card and preorder trough the PSN store

Dumb question but is this worth playing for single player/solo?

It's just as worth playing alone as WoW, Monster Hunter, or anything like that. You can do a lot on your own, but you're not going to get the best loot on your own. Destiny also has the campaign, which could be as good as a Halo campaign and that would be worth playing, even by yourself.

I'm missing it already despite the limited content. The only issue I really had was MP balance since the people with the better weapons had huge advantages going against lower level players. Hell, I was shocked by some of the level 8 weapons people had and it made me feel really unlucky despite all the exploring and farming I did.

My guess is robot-type enemies will be weak to arc damage, those Hive thralls (the ones that rush you and melee, might not be thrall) will be weak to fire. Then there's also Void damage, maybe Void or another ammo type would help take down shields faster? If the ammo types played a role in the alpha, I didn't notice it (outside of the Crucible, where my fire shotgun and fusion rifle destroyed dudes)

I was so busy this last week that I didn't even get to redeem my code.

= _=

My dad and sister played the hell out of it, however, and are both extra annoyed by the loss of the alpha.

Why not? Does it lock better gear behind multiplayer-only stuff? Or does the loot table change depending on player count?

Raids and Strikes is where you're going to get the best gear and they're 3 and 6 player dungeons. You can't solo them, at least not at their level. I didn't even see an option to go in alone in the Alpha. You're matched up in a group when you choose to go to them.

You won't be able to do Raids on your own. They require a team of 6, but matchmaking would probably take care of that. Why are you averse to playing with others?

Ooh ok. Makes sense. Didn't know this had raids.

Bad internet/location.

I don't mind playing with others if the net code can cover for me though but I wanted to know if I'll have a fun time even if it didn't.

I couldn't help myself ;__;

Geez. I think I only got 7 hours total between two characters. Played the warlock for 10 minutes. lol. A lot of that time was searching and hoping to find some new content, but there was nothing. Too many areas with ?? enemies that could wreck you. I didn't play any Crucible at all, but I don't really like PvP.

Bloody hell what were you doing in that alpha for over 35 hours ?

Anyway, here is mine. I actually went from "must buy" to "not so sure about bying".

Fighting a world boss one time I noticed that the little flying robots protecting it were protected by a fire shield. My fire rifle was doing next to nothing against them. I switched to another type of ammo and they died much faster.

Anyone that hasn't checked out the video with Jason Jones explaining what Destiny is should watch it. Even if you watched it prior to the Alpha, because now after having seen how the game works I got so much more from that 7 minute video than I did the first time.

For me it was 17 hours, which is about 11 more hours than I spent playing the incredibly mediocre Second Son. Playing a game like Destiny really illustrates that some devs work on a completely different level than other ones.

As for what I was doing in those 17 hours, apparently I played 5 rounds in the crucible, did 19 strikes, played the mission mode 3 times and killed 2950 enemies, with 178 kills being my record in one strike. I imagine I spent a good hour or two exploring the Tower and trying on the high level armor to see how it looked.

Yeah, I didn't. I read here that your gear from the world is used in the multiplayer, I am not a big fan of massively unbalanced competitive multiplayer.
Perhaps you shouldn't jump to conclusions then, because while weapons carry over their damage (at least in the available game mode for the alpha) is normalized to keep their power balanced.

Compared to complaints about the general flow of gunplay in the MP, imbalance hardly even registers. The game tries to keep things somewhat reasonable by equalizing the main powerfulness stats.

1. titan because hulk smash and big bulky badass looking armor and i like being the big guy that takes all the damage

2. Exo because robots

1)Same as I. In MMOs I play as tank and like to take the hits for the team. Wish Titan had a cape though ^_*

2. Exo, Gundam anyone ^_^

I was getting pretty addicted to the very limited pvp. This game will consume me even though Halo 2 HD will be out after. I've been waiting for a game like this and even more so that's it's Bungie game. Beta can't come soon enough. I hope they add a no hud toggle cause this game looks send. Here are links to a few of my pvp montages that I enjoyed making.
