Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

This is the type of game I want digitally so I can just fire it up whenever, never having to swap disks. I guess I'm spoiled as a primary PC gamer but having all my games digital and not ever having to swap disks is really nice for me as I don't typically care to trade in games. The Destiny Digital Guardian Edition comes with the expansion pass and all the other in-game goodies and is $10 less than the physical steel-book edition. I'm at the point in my life now where the extra stuff seems cool but I'm limited on space to put cool/geeky stuff like the Ghost and honestly my money is better spent elsewhere at this point in my life.

I've always found "I never have to get up and change discs" to be a really overrated value for digital games.

Physical > digital. A disc is awesome.

What if someone were to steal your console and games? What if your house burns down while your out buying a kitten? You lose your ps4 and physical games. You know what you don't lose? Access to your digital games.

Plus we won't be reselling destiny anytime soon.

Has there been any word on cross gen or cross-platform servers?

"No", "none", and "can't" are the most frequent I'm afraid.

And physical media peeps, I'd argue with you but science says there's a 50-70% chance you'll die under a pile of rotting newspapers and DVD cases in the next calendar year. Sadly, it will be mere days before your family has you scheduled to appear in an episode of "Hoarders: Cluttered Gamer Nightmares" on A&E.

I don't debate with the dead, it's just morbid.

I really want to go digital for this game, but I like boxes... like a lot. Don't really care for the Ghost edition although I love toys. So fuckit, cancelled the vanilla and preordered the LE on Amazon. I don't ever recall paying for shipment for other preorders for release date delivery so that fucking blows. I just know I'm gonna end up with a physical and digital version... ugghhh :(

Just gonna sit here and wait patiently for beta/release.

To each his own, I've gotten used to the Steam type of life, the quietness of never hearing a disc spin up, being able to make a selection with a controller from the couch or mouse on my PC without having to do anything other than hit Play.

I want to know exactly if the Arms and Armor book is worth getting limited edition. I might just go pure digital for the first time. It will be a nice change. I really like the art pieces in the book--especially that of the hunter. Sigh. Pros and cons of doing the digital one for Destiny? I'm pretty sure if I start here I will look at digital downloads for most other games.

Wouldn't it be relatively easy to make a PDF of that book and send it in an email to those of us who preorder the guardian digital edition? I would like that.

I don't buy very many videogames and give most of them away by the end of the generation. Shelf space isn't a problem for me.
Fair 'nuff. My small collection is already something I'm getting tired of. Much prefer something like a Steam library taking up no space at all.

Largely the same for me, the convenience is nice as someone who often looks at a couple of games while deciding what to play now. But mainly it drives me crazy when I sit down to play, turn the PS4 on and hit x to start a game while fiddling with my home theatre and... I started season 18 episode 63 of the Gilmour Girls because my wife is watching the DVDs for the billtionth time.

Wow . . that is actually really smart. Hopefully we can find someone who can agree to that. Since going digital isn't that bad. Is it true though that you have to wait until it hits midnight in the west coast to play?

This game will ALWAYS be on my harddrive...as long as the game is supported by Bungie...so I went digital.

Clan Question...Is there a plan for a role playing clan? Not necessarily one where a person is expected to always be in character, but a clan focused on living through the Lore...discussing the Fallen as if they are a real adversarial force.

B-Baka! It's not like I like being praised or anything.

Also the not with that attitude post is hilarious. I'm on my phone and to lazy to quote two things.

See? This Kiwi knows.
Thank you.

Going Digital is ONLY worthwhile if the digital pricing is cheaper than the retail pricing or the game has no physical release. The pricing never is cheaper, thankfully due to the competition of retail, so digital is not worth it.

In terms of my own digital purchases recently, I payed the full price of NZ$30 for Transistor on PS4, but everything else has been heavily discounted before I've jumped in (got both The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2 season passes for $10-$11 each, and Octodad for $11.)

Maybe this is just because I'm a Collector, but even when the game is dead and buried for Bungie I'll still have the cool physical stuff. Plus, with games that don't require online there'll always be PC-based emulation! :D

Does anyone know what the deal is up with the digital collector edition? When will I get to play? Does it normally run smoother? Will my PS4 make any noise when I game? What's the deal!

Your dark skin hunter looks sick man. I think I might have to make my hunter like that, I had an exo during the alpha. Finally a good game where having a darker skin color character doesn't look bad.

You will get to play at 12 midnight the second it comes out. Or possibly 3 am. Depending on where you are. It doesn't really run any smoother than physical because the game installs on your hard drive from the disc. Your ps4 will just check to make sure the disc is there before starting up after the initial install. Your ps4 will make fan noise when you game. That is the deal. Stay thirsty my friends.

Edit: I'm toddv360 on psn if anyone needs someone to play beta strikes with.

Depends, you could pay only 45 for digital if you are splitting the cost with your "roommate/other" or something if you know how.

Wait are digital copies tied to the console or just the account?

All my games have been tied to my account, so I can play anywhere I can log on to my account. Same goes for the console that's dedicated to that account, so if Destiny is different it will be a first.

I might go digital just to pre-load and go straight from work to playing the game. Call me basic but... Yeah, I'm in a withdrawal thread fiending like crazy

It will be 8 again at the very least. You can take that to the bank and tell the bank tellers about it.

I'd love it if the cap was 8 for Xbox players and 12 for Playstation.

Just to kill the guys who are complaining that Bungie somehow "betrayed" them.

But the cool Xbox players could come up to 12 with us. Only the douchey ones got stuck at 8. That'd be some next-gen gaming.

Guys there is no reason to feel ashamed about going digital. There are pros and cons to both digital and physical. It depends on what you care about more. Don't plan on selling the game and don't want to waste gas driving to GameStop and midnight? Go digital. Don't want to lose all your games in a house fire. Go digital lol. Want to resell the game and/or like boxes? Go physical. Really like the physical limited edition swag! Go physical. Don't like swapping discs? Go digital.

It all depends on what you want. Digital and physical are both great options. They are both the same price on launch day anyways for the standard game, so it doesn't really matter.

Oh yeah here's a digital plus for obscenely rich people. Got a 1 tb Samsung SSD? Literally no moving parts to run destiny haha.

Am I on GameFAQs?

Never take the disc for Destiny out. Boom. Problem solved. :P

Nope this started on the extra content topic and it's spilling over. Like how you capitalized all that, a true believer.
Well shit, I can capitalise "Jesus" because it's the start of the sentence, and I can capitalise "Dax" because it's her username. I'll give you the "christ" if you're going to be that pedantic about it though :p

I'll take that Christ and run with it, thank you. I only noticed because I have bad grammar lol. :P

exactly, it was a joke on the current state of affairs, but, please let's keep that stuff out of this thread if possible. It's the last refuge we have for good conversation on a game we all want to play. 2 days until Beta OT, 9 days until Beta!

On topic, did anyone else notice how terrible the Titan was in today's IGN video(Titan Domination Gameplay) Is that on purpose, or just bad at the game? Why didn't they fix the loadout while in space?!

did the
warlocks and hunter pay them off??

A Flame War between Physical and Digital purchasers of Destiny. Choose a side.
If your choice is Digital, prepare to instantly be wrong.

I just upped my preorder to the physical limited edition (not the Ghost edition, mind you). I now have three beta keys, lol. I insist on having physical copies if possible.

Digital all the way.

I don't need more "stuff" in my life, and a game like Destiny is something I'll want to switch to easily for a quick game.
