Anyone know how to find
the mob monster called Niwatoris? The description says, it doesnt appear when humans are around...I am in the specified area but no sign of it, so I am guessing I have to turn into NOT human??

I have no idea if this is at all helpful (I've not got that far) but if you go into battle with just Fran and no-one else it might appear?

Sorry I meant like nobody has to be there, so it doesnt matter if its a Hume or other specifies.

Can we have a few vids showing off some summons?

n/m : just saw one posted above

Oh my, those Mist attacks are possibly the most stylish looking abilities I've seen in a FF game.

They look stunning.

You can really tell how Square modeled the characters though....against the dark backdrops the fact that Ashe's hand is like six polygons becomes really visible.

I went crazy playing the game for more than 14hours non-stop yesterday, the videos are only side-quests.

Tell me about it. This game is a fucking TIME PIT! I spent 6 hours today doing nothing but optional stuff. Beefed up characters to challenge the mob hunts I had outstanding, leveled up Fran from lvl9 to lvl18 because out of the 3 characters I don't use she's the one I see the most potential in. Leveled everyone else up to lvl24-25 and explored EVERY CORNER of the available maps I had and found some sick optional shit that I'm not ready for yet.

I had to literally force myself to tear away from just continously playing the game like it was a MMORPG and progress a little of the plot. But now I feel the urge again and I fear once I teleport back to the city to sell shit and upgrade my equipment and get new stuff I'll be hooked back into exploration mode because while following the plot I just entered another new area! HELP! :lol

Upgrade, upgrade and upgrade. Otherwise they are just too weak to continue with the story. I wasted a lot of time fighting and saving, ha ha ! The Mobs are not particular hard, and I use Chocobo to run around and see the area before going to those places on foot.

I then decided to just record the mist videos with codes and then play without them.

Is it possible? Can it possibly be that JRPG has actually surpassed Chapter 2 of Baldur's Gate 2??

Forget Baldur's Gate. This game is competing on the level of FFXI and WoW, except perfected, balanced and tuned for an excellent solo-based one party experience. I don't think it's even a slight exaggeration to say that a game like this has NEVER been made before. It's huge, it's addictive, but there's no lag, no morons, no beggers, no gil farmers and most importantly, NO MONTHLY FEE. I think Famitsu scored this game too low. :P

Question for maskrider (or anyone else far enough to know)

The summon you show in that video, was it obtained as a part of just following the story, or did you go off and explore and came accross it? Currently just made it to the Miriam ruins and have only obtained 1 summon thus far.

Quick story question, from around 5 hours or so:

Why did Van go to get the Magic Stone (maseki) in the palace? I didn't quite get this point. During the parade he seemed to want to get into the party for some reason, but when he met the guy in Downtown he said he wanted to take back Dalmasca's treasure and 'return it to its rightful place' or something.

This Vayne guy's a bit suspicious. :D

That part was following the main story, I have accidentally obtained another one for a mob quest (went to the wrong place) that I didn't intend to do. I have
3
at this moment.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

Question about the gameplay.

This is a pretty simple question but since some people consider gameplay discussion spoilers...

When I played the demo, you had three people in your party, but by default you could only control one. You COULD manually control everyone, but it was a lot of work, especially in active mode, and at times was hard to keep up with the action. Have they changed this for the final release? Or do you still take control of one character while the computer controls the other two? Is there a decent enough way to have complete control but also be able to keep up with the action when lots of enemies are attacking?

Vaan's also a thief. He was sneaking into the palace while everyone else was distracted by the parade to steal from the royal treasury.

Why would they change something that works so well? :D

In the final game there are MANY more options to customize how the party behaves. With the right script settings you don't even have to really control ANYONE in the party at all except for critical battles. FFXII is all about the planning, the strategy and the skill as opposed to actually mashing buttons.

If I want to import this, what do I need to play it on an American PS2?

I'm so close to just caving.

Some questions:

1) How many hours in are you (estimated story completion?)? Seems like you've at least uncovered a LOT of the map

2) What kind of variety have you seen so far in the world? (Jungles, Forest, Desert, Frozen wasteland, etc...)

3) Variety of mob skins? Are there lots of unique looking mobs and not as many palette swaps as in the past? (from what I've seen I've been really impressed by the monster designs regardless)

Ah, I thought he had some kind of specific purpose with it...

Awesome game, BTW. :)

Mob are not just skins, I am rather pleased at the moment. There are some very good looking environment and I am doing mob quests at the moment (with
11
mobs on the list).

I see. That is... odd. So you can make the entire party automated and all you have to do is move around while they do stuff? Where's the fun in that? I mean, yeah, it's great if you can program someone to use Cura if your HP is <20%, but sometimes I wanna do all the planning and thinking myself WHILE I am in battle.

IF you choose to use wait mode, I assume you can pick commands for each character without having to worry about things going too fast? "For thinking players," as the demo says.

Yeah, you can pretty much play it like a normal FF if you turn the speed down and turn gambits off. The game is obviously geared towards you using gambits, and personally I go somewhere in between - keeping the leader in control and customising gambits for the others. And remember, you always have easy access to the other characters' abilities by pressing left/right in the command menu (and if you have it on wait, the battle will of course pause)

There's been tons of talk about the battle system, but I'm interested in the characters and story. I know it's top quality, being a Matsuno game and all, but how about character interaction and dialogue. Has anyone broke character or has their been any embarrasing moments? One character in particular I'm interested in is Fran. I imagine she's the silent warrior type (Kimari, Chewie), is that pretty close to how she acts?

I'm nowhere near as far as other folks (only like 8 hours or so), but thus far, the characters have been absolutely AWESOME...and I don't just mean the main characters. Everybody in the game has had a great personality that goes far above most JRPGs. The writing is extremely good as well, which plays a big role, and the voice work is wonderful.

According to those further than me, the story does not run out of steam and the pacing remains great.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Awesome. My hype for this game is through the roof, I want to replay Tactics and Vagrant Story before the US release. My predicted GOTY, easily. :D

While Bebpo's "Game of the Generation" hype for Ryu ga Gokotu might have jumped the gun a little, I think this is the real thing. We'll see by the end of the month when most of us are done and DONE with the game (I'm expecting at least 80 hours easily) but I'm pretty sure about it this time.

Wait, what's wrong with Ryu Ga Gotoku?

FFXII is better. :lol

Ryu ga Gotoku is great, but there can only be ONE GOTG. That's why its GAME of the generation and not GAMES of the generation. :D

Man, crazy that US is gonna get two potential GOTG in one year ;)

Like duckroll said, FFXII is better. I gave Ryu a 96% and trust me my score for FFXII will be higher ;)

FFXII is the game of not only the past generations but of the FUTURE GENERATIONS.

The biggest downpoint of FFXII is that honestly, it's going to be really hard to enjoy crappy rpgs after this.

I think I'm gonna only be able to enjoy Square stuff and Atlus stuff from now on. VP2/Persona3/etc...

After FFXII I can't see myself ever finishing Suikoden V :(

Though SRPGs don't count because that's an entirely different field.

i'm sure in the inevitable blackhole-esque void that follows FFXII, we'll eventually fall back into playing every bog standard RPG known to man

it is the way. Penance for the day we get another game like it.

Between the summon and Mist animations, I don't want to see anyone complaining about "toned down" spell effects!

(and hey, in the demo at least, Flare is still pretty impressive)

I just realized that in the soundtrack, someone translated "Dalmasca" as "Darmasca."

Hmm..... reminds me of ling ling.

And you're sure you're not over-hyping this just not to make you go back on the stuff you were saying about it before it released?

With regard to "Mist Knack"

In the videos, each character seems to have three different moves depending on some sort of selection process/button input as the timer winds down. My question is, are these the only three? Did you start with three? Have you gained more since the game began? Anticipate gaining more as the game goes on? Thanks. I'm not really interested in how/where you gain them, just if you actually do.

Man, monster hunting is getting hard as hell. I'm starting to play this game MMO style more and more and more, which is good. Dedicated magic user plus tanks lol.

I hate it when you are about to kill them and they go crazy with lvl 3 magics.....

Has anyone done anything crazy like making vaan a hardcore magic user or something like that?

I'm really enjoying the customization features of this game.

One quick question, i set Fran and vash to heal when health is <50% and for some reason they arent doing it. Why is that? it cost me a boss fight and it angered me greatly.

edit:

as far as story and graphics and all that, i am constantly impressed by the quality of voice acting and subtle animations during cutscenes. Its such a nice change from all the shitty over exaggerated camera motions trying way too hard to be cool character movements and nonsensical story. You could say (atleast to the point i am which si still rather early in the game) it is a little star warsy but the characters and acting and everything put it way beyond that tripe in my eyes.

Im on my first play through but im trying my hardest not to just go crazy with the character customizations, its driving me insane actually. The liscense board is just scary, what should i get what direction should i go. Fun fun fun. This is the first FF ive actually enjoyed on all ends, and for once im actually wanting to watch the cutscenes in a video game.

Figures. Any idea how many there might be in total? Can't wait to see the "final" versions

Also, I must say, the more vids I watch the more convinced I become that they've really topped themselves with regard to mob design... simply inspiring.
