Married and divorced three times -- most recently to a former dolphin trainer friend of his daughter -- Blatter has been with current partner Ilona Boguska for two years. The pair met while playing tennis a decade ago.

Touchy subject: Yanks kick MLS after ticket remark
1 hour ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Mention those empty seats at Yankee Stadium at your own risk.

Don Garber did.

A day after the Major League Soccer commissioner raised the subject, New York Yankees president Randy Levine blasted back.

"Don Garber discussing Yankee attendance must be a joke," Levine said Friday. "We draw more people in a year than his entire league does in a year. If he ever gets Major League Soccer into the same time zone as the Yankees, we might take him seriously.

"Hey Don, worry about Beckham, not the Yankees. Even he wants out of your league," he said.

Star David Beckham has been loaned from MLS' Los Angeles Galaxy to AC Milan through the end of the Italian Serie A season.

Speaking Thursday to the Associated Press Sports Editors, Garber said he'd noticed the unfilled seats at New York's two new stadiums. The Yankees' premium seats were more than half-empty for the five games following their home opener.

"It's incomprehensible that you watch a game, and there will be front-row seats empty," Garber said.

Told of Levine's comments, Garber explained his remark.

"When I mentioned the New York Yankees yesterday, my comments were part of a larger assertion that all businesses — even the most successful sports entities — are experiencing some impact from the economic downturn," Garber said through a league spokesman.

"The Yankees are one of the world's strongest sports brands and the context of my comments about a few empty seats at Yankee Stadium was to illustrate the economic challenges we are all facing," he said.

MLS averaged 16,460 for 210 regular-season games last year, a total of 3.46 million. The Yankees averaged 53,070 last year in the final season at the old Yankee Stadium, a total of 4.3 million.

Well he could come back with global viewing/playing figures for soccer.

Imagine all the arrogance and general dickery of all the teams in the entire world and then distill it and concentrate it into one club.

That club would be the Yankees.

they're such trained fighters, they knew exactly how to counter the other one's attacks. It's quite brilliant actually.

I really think Real Madrid/Barca/AC Milan are all worse than the Yankees on their own. Sure, the Yankees go out and buy anyone they want, but most of the time the teams they buy from are more than happy to take their inflated asking price.

Quakes centerback Ryan Cochrane had ankle surgery today and will be out 10-12 weeks. Cochrane is at best a mediocre player, but he's also a starter. With Hernandez continuing to have calf issues, the defense is going to be hurting a bit longer. Argh.

I like how you fit Barça in there with the likes of Real. Our most important players are raised from very early in La Masia, we dont buy as much as we produce. Arsenal, on the otherr hand... well, let's say that you should be thankful, you got Fabregas fully grown and polished from us.

Ah... it's funny that you post that. Even Duda said a couple of days after that game that Messi didnt spit on him.

Wait, so being 16 and a half years old now is to be fully grown and polished?

Oh how quickly do these catalan kids mature nowadays. :P

And I didn't say anything against Barca or Messi tonight, I was just posting random stuff.

I'll post another one just to prove that I'm not being anti-azulgrana just for today:

I'm still bitter about Henry.

Fabregas was "fully grown and polished"?
whatever you say there, bud.

It's more from a management actions perspective than the cash money. No point being angry at them for having cash, just about everyone wishes their favorite team suddenly came into a bazillion dollars.

They're just run by the biggest dicks in sports. From Steinbrenner to this hack, who takes Garber talking about how even the behemoth Yankees are hurting a bit in the recession personal.

Bummer man. Kinda weird how defense was a (relative) strength for you guys last season and now...
A lot of 'quakes supporters on BS seem assured that the Sounders are going to roll. I'm not so sure. Any team that can score like the 'quakes can is not to be underestimated. Ljungberg pushing Evans out wide and killing our wing speed has dramatically changed the team.

I'd love to see Ljungberg moved to right midfield, montero to CAM, and Zakuani on the left with Evans and Osvaldo paired in D-Mid. Would seem to use all our talent best without pigeonholing Ljungberg into CAM which was a decision seemingly made before Sigi even signed.

Fabregas was one of the youngest players to play in the PL, at 16 he was already a quality sub and a couple of years later he became a regular.

Dont underestimate La Masia.

Hey, he was good enough to start for most of Arsenal games a year after he left us, I dont think he learned that much in less than a year :) Besides, his playstyle screams Barça. He's a typical "La Masia" midfielder :D Here's a quote from wikipedia: "Fàbregas has stated in interviews that while Vieira served as his role model and mentor, he styles his game after his childhood hero and compatriot Josep Guardiola. In that sense he is of a different mould from his Arsenal predecessors who play in the same position, preferring skill over strength"

I don't and that's is probably the main reason of Barca success, well together with great signings, but the base of the team has grown up at home, not like Madrid does, that any great young player is sent out on loan to die or something.

It is rather similar to the process that Mauricio Macri started in the late 90s to bring up lots of young players at Boca Juniors which have brought them success at home, South America and even worldwide, without mentioning the cashing in part of the process, since Barca is not really in need of that.

A few examples of Boca's development project are: Tevez, Gago, Burdisso, Banega, Luciano Monzon, Nicolas Gaitan or Lucas Viatri.

Youth development projects are vital for most teams, even those who have money, but specially for those who don't, since they will provide them success in both pitch and bank.

So I do admire and respect that part from Barca, probably the only one tho.

That's part of Spain's success now.

Cesc, Iniesta and Xavi are all that type of creative midfielder that just until a few years ago was thought to be on its way to extinction and had Riquelme as their last representative. It is more of an iberoamerican style for a 10.

Quakes have only scored 7 goals so far, which is about average for the league. Three against Houston and Chicago plus one against LA, and shut out against NE and KC. Only one road game, too. Just depends which Quakes team shows up.

Haha, just read an article about Lazio preparing so spend 22 million euros to sign Zarate. In Football Manager, which I got about a week ago, I immediately signed Zarate the summer before this season for about 5 million USD. I'm really glad I didn't wait, haha.

What playstation store games do I need to get? And is there any truth to ratchet not working on 160 gig ps3s?

Try Pixeljunk Monsters and Eden. Also Everyday shooter and Super stardust HD if you liked geometry wars. They're twin stick shooters but different enough to be worth it. I hear flower is really good, but i don't have it yet.

Here's Ibra's stats in Italy:
2004/05 Juventus (1st in League)
Matches/goals: 36/16 (many subs since they had DP/Trez/Zl/more).

2005/06 Juventus (1)
Matcher/mål: 35/7 (still subs I think).

2006/07 Inter
Matcher/mål: 27/15.

2007/08 Inter (1)
Matcher/mål: 26/17.

2008/09 Inter (1)
Matcher/mål: 30/20

Tons of goals, he'll be great in the league (and hopefully in CL) with the new team.

Uh, you're also a Swede ?

If we win today the league is practically in our pocket. Tomorrow Real will have a hard time against Sevilla and if they lose we'll be 9 points ahead with 5 games left.

Angry Frank Lampard calls radio DJ

The England midfielder Frank Lampard has phoned a radio station to round on a DJ who said he was "scum" for splitting up with the mother of his two children.

Lampard said the LBC 97.3 DJ James O'Brien was an "idiot" for upsetting his family on the first anniversary of his mother's death.

He also rejected suggestions that he'd treated his former partner badly since they split.

I don't like Lampard but these radio DJs are fucking idiots...and this one got told

The Reds XI in full is: Reina, Arbeloa, Insua, Skrtel, Carragher, Alonso, Mascherano, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Torres. Subs: DC, DA, DN, AD, AR, FA, NEZ.

Lucas on the pitch...bye bye PL dreams.
