Official G.A.M.E. 6 Planning thread of GT vs. FORZA: The Soundtrack Battle

Yeah, there's no reason you should feel limited by FL Studio in that way, but, if you don't feel happy with it you should definitely try other stuff.

If you're willing to walk on the wilder side away from the more traditional DAWs mentioned above (Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Reaper, Ableton), you could try toying with Trackers. Renoise, Buzz, Skale, http://www.madtracker.org/, or Psycle.

Be forewarned, Trackers are a huge shift in design from the traditional sequencers/DAWs you may be used to and you're *definitely* gonna want to thumb through manuals/wikis a bit.

...and then we've got software like:

AUDIOMULCH : Audio Much Video - Very impressive with how a single guitar sample could "grow" into a full/rich soundscape

AUDIOTOOL: A Web Based sequencing/Perfromance tool using virtual instruments. The site lets you record up to 5 mins of audio (haven't tried it yet)

GLEETCHLAB 3.0: A bit more on the experimental side but it allows you to really play with samples in many creative ways

Sometimes I feel drawn to these non-traditional means of visualizing (interacting) with the music-making process. Audiomulch is on my "to try" list

:lol Oh so the RPG idea is still in the air? I thought we were dead set on APB? Man this thread is confusing the hell out of me.

Well whatever you guys decide, count me in when it's time to get started. Put my name on the list or whatever you gotta do.

I think we're leaning more towards Racing as a subject...specifically Gran Turismo 5.

dogmaan...rockin' track. I can see this working for a GT5 album. What's your software platform for the track? Can you still mess around with the drums or is it a pre-rendered loop? I'm just curious how it would sound if you used an acoustic drum kit.

My vote is going to be for Gran Turismo 5 also, even though its a racing game like Wipeout it has a very different approach to its music. I think we could end up with a genre-spanning custom soundtrack.

I'm not sure an acoustic drum kit would sit well with the bassline

here's another one of my tracks, that could be adapted to gran turismo possibly

actually after listening to it, probably not

Imagine the sound of multiple car engines revving and redlining, tires screeching, wind, etc. These are SFX elements that will be heard above your music. Not sure what frequency range these SFX cover so my main worry is having to compete for sound space over these things.

When I play racing games the engine and tire sound is priority, so I don't mind not hearing some of the low level elements. Hey at the least, it gives the tracks a longer life span, because you'll never really hear all of it at once, until you solo it out.

I like this GT idea. GT has always has a special sophisticated quality to their music that I've loved way before I ever thought of doing any music. The menu music is always smooth, and the navigation sound effects always blend right in. I remember long ago making drum beats by navigating to the menu music.

I think the deadline should be shorter, because people become disinterested or otherwise occupied over too much time.

i'll update the OP or maybe post a new/official planning thread for Gran Turismo with the bells and whistles so we can drum up more interested participants. I agree the deadline should be shorter, especially with GT Mobile around the corner.

Monchi, do you know where I can find some original GT music? I wanted to set up my PS2 but can't find the PSU :(

fuck it

here's one I did for GAME 3.1, but i never finished it, let me know what you think, and whether I should finish it

Aerogauge.mp3
That's pretty sweet, especially in Wipeout! Will put in WipEout HD soundtrack

Ok guys, been working on a track today for GAME 6.0 (well it's only a melody right now), check it out on my soundcloud below.

Obviously still a WIP, but keep in mind that a player could have gone through an entire lap during the 35 second lead-in. Give them something more up front. Other than that it sounds good though, can't wait to see what kind of beat you put under that.

I need to know if this could fit the theme.

I want to go for some sort of technojazz.

Sure, I don't see why not. Just think "fast cars" during the composition process. The tempo's certainly there. If you're really interested in a challenge, why not see if you can get a blazing fast sax solo out of that synth?

This is mine, I've had some time off and have been feeling motivated. The feel is admittedly more Ridge Racer than GT, but hopefully it still fits the bill. Not finished though; the end needs a lot more work, I'm going to switch up the opening and I want to toss in more bits & bobs throughout:

The second track I'm going to do is more guitar-y, and I'm also toying with the idea of submitting that track I have left over from the Wipeout project that I could never get to bounce properly without a sound card.

To me,

THIS is Gran Turismo.

and this.

It's kinda hard to get directly to the music on the wiki... at least for an impatient bro like me!
Since the second one on PS1 they have been using this kind of music but for the menus only. I'd like to try a menu song and an actual racing song. I think I'll do that. Yeah, expect two tracks from me, whenever you guys are ready to get started.

GT5 is the final decision right?

Ok I guess I'm down for a track or two. I have absolutely no clue what to do though. Been listening to some GT OSTs to get inspiration, but I can't come up with anything that satisfies me. I'll post what I have done to see if others see it working.

We're going to launch this project at the same time as GT5, right? Just like we did with WipeOut HD. It's really the way to go in my opinion.

I updated my song on Soundcloud already with some sort of solo since that was a good advice. It's not final yet but man is it easy to get inspirational with the sax.

FLK it does sound like something from Ridge Racer but it can definitely fit GT as well. It's a pretty upbeat and atmospheric track at the same time. I really enjoy it so far.

There's Gran Turismo PSP on October 1st (right?), but that's just way too soon. We could release it on Forza 3's release date (despite it being GT themed, huahuahuahuahua), but that still just gives us essentially 2 months.

hahaha, i just got an idea...what if we made a double cd release.

GT vs. Forza: Soundtrack Battle

:lol That's like the current nationalized healthcare debate of gaming side. I've never played Forza, what type of music does it use?

Linkin Park and P.O.D.

j/k

I think it runs the gamut of tracks minus the jazzy/chill menus of GT.

Wait, there is no firm release date for GT5? It could be released a year from now for all we know.
i believe its a general [unconfirmed] consensus that its going to be released in december. but you're right, we don't really know. gt is more famous for being delayed than it is for being a car game.

Been working on this tune for the last few days.

Permutated - Immonium (Clip) - http://soundcloud.com/permutated/immonium-sample

Let me know what you guys think :)

Remember the opening CG for Gran Turismo where they do the "car reveals"..yeah, this track makes me think of it. :D

At certain points in the song i'm half expecting it to just break out into a full-on DnB riff. permutated, what are you planning to do for the final version of this track

You know I've thought about going double time on that tune and making it some crazy fucking breakcore track @ 280 but....eh...I don't know. I think I'm going to stick with the current speed of that one.

Definitely going to add a lot more break-interplay and drops. Probably will submit something more suitable when I come up with it. Cheers.
