Official Halo 2 Sales Crow Thread (popcorn not included)

If the people eating crow were banned as well, then what you're saying might be a bit more relevant. I don't want to get on anyones' bad side here or anything, I just think laughing at someone else's misery is shitty.
Misery = being banned from a gaming forum?

It's unfortunate GamerXL got banned, but he was doing himself no favors.

okay man, I realize it's not like getting drafted, but in the contest of the gaming forum, getting banned is pretty miserable.

fuck it though, I don't want to get banned as well, so I'm not going to say anything else regarding the matter.

I don't see why I'm eating crow yet (unless drinky is a hot sexy latino; if yes PM me). I don't think HALO2 will outsell HALO (lifetime)... Unless its already on the way outselling Halo.. then me = owned. But my statement was in a thread about sales and I was talking lifetime. Own me next gen. And I stand by my assessment, it probably wouldn't. The minute HALO price drops, its sales will spike again and then it 2 horse race.

And while we're at this. I've decided not to pick up HALO2 because of the very short 1p campaign. It was a hardcall and I didn't say it til now because I believed I would be slammed for fanboyism. And this was my biggest xbox title this year. Bungie bloody shot themselves in the foot by saying "woah biggest surprise/greatest 1p game ever... no spoilers please". When I read that the above = not so shit hot, I was a tad disappointed. I don't play multiplayer and after I finished HALO, it went into the pile. So, its a rental for me. Bit surprising really but the more I read the more I was like. great... the business with the ending and the business with the shortness of the 1p campaign = UNSOLD.

Why not just state the obvious ? You cant stand the xbox.

Saying you wont buy Halo 2 because "the single player is short" is ridiculous. The single player is plenty long enough, its like a fricken movie its so well made.

It's single player is actually longer than the first. I couldn't finish Halo 2 in one sitting. I could with Halo.

its true though. 10 hours is nothing. I will play through it in 1-2 days and then what? I'm just not interested in Multi-player. If you go find some posts; as the hype for HALO2 build. I was excited too. But then the reviews / remarks came and I thought... hang on... do I want to spend that much money on a game I will play for 1-2 days? A rental does seem like a good move. I'll save myself a lot of money.

* ps I do hate the xbox. There. HATE IT.

:)

eh you dont know how to sell your games after you're done? you could get damn near full price for it.

thats what i do, anyways. basically I paid $5.00 for Paper Mario 2 and Otogi 2.

Single player in Halo 2 isn't any shorter than it was in the first game. I think the reason some have been able to finish it quicker is because the default difficulty (normal) is akin to playing easy in the first game. Heroic however seems to be equal to Halo 1's legendary and Halo 2's legendary.....good god. I can't get passed the first freakin' level on legendary. Heroic should've been the default difficulty, imo. It's a much better experience.

Regardless, it still stands as one of the most incredible games this year on any format.

Dont you have friends to play halo when they come round? Even co-op?

Thing people keep overlooking is the difficulty in Halo, ramp it up, your rewarded by much, much longer single player experience. And its not cheap, you have to think real strategically if you want to survive the waves of baddies. Or, just play it on co-op legendry, each checkpoint can take upto an hour to reach.

Sounds like a weak excuse, even if you dont have live, its a must own. Play multi with 3 buddies like the good old days of n64

Its like you want reasons not to buy it, or that you despise MS so much you dont want to contribute to the success of Halo2.

Just sell your xbox, its all over for you

There is also a much bigger emphasis on vehicles, which takes more time to do right. The New Mombasa vehicle sequence (cross the bridge, hit the beach, through the tunnels, take on the two tanks) is like Assult on the Control Room x 2, but since so much of it is in vehicles, it takes as much time as that one level in Halo.

In other words, the sheer territory you cover is huge, but you can do it faster.

Okay. You've convinced me to sell my xbox. Its ALL OVER. But seriously. I'll rent it first and decide then.. so when has renting then buying been a bad thing? I know you can ramp up difficulty and extend the game but I'm a story-player. Most titles need a decent story + gameplay to keep me playing. My biggest concern is the 1p experience. Enough said about this. Definitely playing this. Owning it is a different thing.

I guess it MUST BE HARD For you guys to understand why someone has reservations about buying a game you must buy. Dollars and cents + YMMV. It went from a must buy to must play.

Very true. New Mombasa clearly dwarfs any area in the original Halo. Someone should try to complete it on heroic without using any vehicles just to see how long that'd take.

I think I'll give it a shot..... :p

OK so any opinion you have on Halo 2 is null and void. Now just leave the thread, and dont post in any Halo related thread again.

I would thought you wouldnt show your face in here after the level of ownage pelted at you, but then again.....

Its not weak sauce at all. You made a great point. Halo2 should be played for its multi player as well, otherwise one is cheating themselves that other end of the spectrum that Halo offers.

I mean Plenty of people play Mario Kart, fighters, sports games, even GBA games by linking them up via multi player. Halo 2 should be no different.

Holiday Shoppers Flock to Retailers for Everything Xbox
Global Phenomenon “Halo 2” Surpasses 5M Units in Sales Worldwide,
Supercharging the Xbox Live Community and Xbox Console Sales

Kicking off the start of the frenzied holiday shopping season, retailers welcomed hordes of Xbox consumers over Thanksgiving weekend. Gamers flocked to purchase the Xbox video game system, Xbox Live subscriptions and Xbox games, not the least of which was the blockbuster Halo 2.

Transcending borders, Xbox gamers around the globe also continued to devour copies of Halo 2, which has now sold more than 5 million copies worldwide since its launch on November 9. In fact, the Halo franchise has exceeded the 11 million unit mark, with cumulative sales from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo for Windows.

Xbox consoles are proving to be hot purchase items at retailers this holiday. Console sales in the United States increased nearly 50% percent in sales this week, when compared to Thanksgiving week last year. Holiday shoppers continue to recognize the unrivaled entertainment experience and incredible value of the Xbox game console.

“Xbox and Halo 2 are on most consumers’ must-have lists this holiday season,” said Robert McKenzie, Vice President of Merchandising at Gamestop. “Popularity for both the Xbox console and its number one title Halo 2 is an early indication that Xbox will enjoy a stellar holiday season.”

The Xbox Live community has logged a record-setting 28 million hours playing Halo 2, which is more than any other Xbox Live game in the two-year history of the global service.

The instant action and immersive gameplay in Halo 2 propelled gamers to play online
for an average of 91 minutes per session, approximately the same length as a major
motion picture. Out of a universe of more than one million Xbox Live members,
Halo 2 on Xbox Live has already attracted more than 900,000 unique users.

In addition to the Halo 2 phenomenon, Xbox is satiating the entertainment appetites of adults and children, all ages and personalities. “Fable,” the ground-breaking Xbox role-playing adventure game from Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Game Studios has reached new heights, racking sales of more than one million units worldwide in only two months since its availability at retail. Other great games for the entire family include the Platinum Hits series, with seven new offerings at a tremendous value of $19.99, including Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3 from Ubisoft and NFL Street from EA.

Xbox is also reaching new consumers with the launch of Xbox Live Arcade on November 4, introducing a new social experience for gamers of every level with popular retro classics and broad appeal games like “Dig Dug”, “Bejeweled”, and the fully Xbox Live-enabled “Fuzzee Fever” directly to Xbox over the Xbox Live service.

In North America, holiday shoppers can purchase the Xbox console, two full premium sports games (“NCAA Football 2005” from EA Sports and “Top Spin” by Microsoft Game Studios) and a two-month trial subscription to Xbox Live™ for just $149.99.

“This year’s holiday offer provides something for everyone in the family and is a great value for Xbox consumers,” said Mitch Koch, vice president, worldwide retail sales and marketing for Microsoft’s home & entertainment division. “With the combined value of the Xbox console and two great games, the retail offer opens the door for new and old customers alike.”

Wow, 5 mil for Halo 2 and a mil for Fable. Has this been posted somewhere else, I'm shocked someone hasn't started a new thread for this. I'm surprised by the Fable numbers, but after playing it, I think the game is deserving.

And this...

Where's the sources? It's incredible that one of the best shooters of all time has sold 5 million without Microsoft getting a chance to brag about it first. This is another hyped article, and if it did sell 5 million, 3 or 4 million were in the USA alone, looking at UK, Japan, and Europe charts. It's not pulling the same weight anywhere else in the world but here :)

MS is bragging - that's where this came from.

Should be interesting to see the total for the month; it that pace holds up MS will have moved over 700k in November. (That's what the Cube did last year after the cut to $99)

Games >>>>> Price drops

You only complete Halo 2 in 10 hours (On Normal) if you rush. Hope you dont rush sex as much as some people like to simply sprint thru Halo 2.

I don't think anyone really does that, they just like to say they do. Gotta try and find something to bash Halo 2 about.

I honestly beat Halo 2 on normal in 9 hours. 2 sittings. 4 hours on the night of 11/9 and 5 hours the next day, done.

It's a short game, I don't know what "taking your time" is. I killed enemies, I moved on. What else am I supposed to do?

It's bigger than Halo by any measure. And Halo is not short.

well, if you play it on heroic (where most of us agree it should be played at by default) the game is a lot longer (a whole lot actually). then you got co-op which basically doubles up the playing time.

if you play on heroic all the way through that's probably 15-20 hours depending. then with co-op your up to 30-40 hours. that's a lot of legs for a single player game. add in multiplayer with friends (system link and split screen) and you are off the charts.

that's not even counting xbox live.

Who cares about Halo's offline game? Xbox Live is where it's at! Over 900k unique users have already played Halo 2 on live, that's pretty darn good considering Live has just over 1 million users. Pretty good indeed........

It made $125 million on day one. It hasn't just owned every video game, it's owned the best movies' three-day takes!
