can anyone here compare the demo to the retail level? I know supposedly its improved but no one has really came out and said if it has or not.
Retail game actually has a much better frame rate in the level that's featured in the demo.
My Impressions:
- Story is cool (I like Wusha-style drama, this is kind of an east west mix, but so far not bad). Cutscenes are gorgeous.
- Action is great, but a bit repetitive. However I keep getting new unlockables as I play, which is nice. As I get better at the game, it's easier to whittle down the 30 guys very quickly, but I never mash. Finishing a combo and then blocking and countering is very satisfying! It's basically arena => shooting level => arena => Kai level so far.
- Graphics are amazing: It's almost too much to take in, stuff is shattering, enemies are flying all around you, it's pretty mind blowing. I've never seen an action game with this much going on at once, to be honest, and it all has physics attached to it.
- ...however the framerate suffers a bit in some parts. The reason is there are too many guys & stuff on screen. For example, when you first encounter Bohan there are like a bazillion guys standing behind him, and it's like, oh shit all of those guys! And then in most arenas, there's tons of destructible items. I'll toss a guy into a shelf and the whole thing will shatter and the plates and apples will fly everywhere. It looks really amazing, but the framerate will dip.
In scenes where there aren't so many guys on screen (think 15 or 20), the game runs very smoothly and is totally great. When there's like 50 guys on screen, not so much. It's not unplayable, but it's not ideal, and it does bug a little bit.
I'd prefer that in the next installment, they focus on hitting that 60 FPS, if possible, and then add a bunch of stuff.
- I like the Kai levels a lot!
- Music = Great
Anyway, according to everyone accounts I'm 30 minutes away from beating the game, so we'll see
From what I've played, GS' review of 8.0 is pretty much spot on. A sequel to this game could be fricking amazing though. This is a great new start for Ninja Theory.
