I'm really at a loss for these posts. I enjoyed the demo a lot (most played demo next to mgs2). The combat system is far from mediocre. How's it possible that so many people hate it?

It has serious competition from NG, GoW and DMC.

But it has a very different combat system from those games. I guess you could call it shallow too but it's not bad from my experience.

Have a fun! Enjoy!
Game finished.

Let me tell you this. Chapter 4 is how the whole game should have been. It's surprisingly the most beautiful and smooth of the lot probably because environments are a little bit smaller dunno, but it's almost perfect. Good enemies mix as well. Finally see new faces...

The worst parts (in terms of graphical issues) of the game are those with Kai. For watever reason, her sections suffer tremendous frame drops and tearing.

Hell mode unlocked. Less time to dispatch enemies with cannons + hits deal more damage. Didn't notice much of improvement AI-wise but I only checked the very beginning.

Some Gamestop's/EB are claiming the shipment was delayed until Friday...

It did not get delayed, most stores will have the game tomorrow

Damn, it was exactly the same at E3. So sad they had to rush this out. :(

So far the game is good. No graphics problems on my part. It plays fluently, it's fast, fun and it certainly looks to be very short.

If you live in LA, NY or some other huge city, where the games are probably printed or at least quickly distributed - you get them on a same day. The rest of us usually have to wait a day or more after (unless the game is something distributed days in advance). It's a bit luck of a draw.

The Metreon in San Francisco has it. Just board a plane and land in SFO, take the bart train for 45 minutes, then go to 4th and Mission. There you go!

:D (Game is totally worth it)

I've never had to wait past the listed release date in Denver. Thats why the Sony first party titles are all listed as Wednesday, because they dont make it by Tuesday. I want to know why they can't even hit that now.

Argh, I look at my XMB and see Kittonwy is playing Heavenly Sword right now :(. I knew it wasn't coming today but I had some hope that it would show up at my store before 3pm.

the release date according to IGN is Today. Therefore, it arrives in most retail stores tomorrow. Some games ship on Monday, some on Tuesday, some on Wednesday.

Ok guys I picked up the game about 1hr ago! I'm blown away! It is visually a masterpiece (and I'm very early in the game) Its allot of fun! And fuck I never knew the sixaxis was so percise! The fighting is just terrific as well, I'm really getting into this game, its just the perfect game to play when you want to cool off a bit from Wowhawk.
I've decided (and its a very hard decision) to lay off this game, I'm going to my cottage this weekend alone & I'm bringing the PS3 up with me so I can play this game. I don't care if its short, I know I'll be playing this at least twice!

Seriously I'm blown away, and I was worried I wouldn't end up liking it. And fuck Nariko on a 46" HDTV leaves me breathless!

Well its still the first time Ive not gotten a game on release date while living in Denver, regardless of its shipping/release date. I even got the message saying it was in... something must have happened.

I got more jealous when I see Kittonwy in Home, although I do have Heavenly Sword already :D

Waggle controls made me nearly hate this title early on. Thankfully you can turn them off via options.

From what I've played up to so far, end of Whiptail fight, I wouldn't say the title is disappointing but it does not surpass the big three from last gen, DMC, NG and GOW. The decision to put waggle controls in nearly cripples the game for me. I hate that feature in this game and although you can turn it off, the alternative for pulling off moves like air recoveries and air combos is not implemented very well.

Also, the story is far too overblown and melodramatic for my tastes and the humor they toss in feels out of place. So far, I'd say a 6/10 is fair for this game.

Parts of Canada, Kenta. Parts of Canada... :(

I tried calling local EB around 8pm, but they still didn't have it.

I see some very healthy MGS type of story (melo)drama, and quirky villains, which is perfectly fine in my book, especially that voice acting is on the level it is. They give the theatrical kind of performance, exaggerated sort of, which I think is pretty neat for the type of characters they are.

Hahaha... Funny moments...

In the beginning there's this guy who says "I hear you've been beating my men".
I killed him and threw his body at his men.

Also... Thanks to the demo when the door is broken down and those 3 horned soldiers come out? I was prepped and threw a shield at them. They all flew around like bowling pins.

That's quality fun right there.

Kai's missions are a lot harder than I thought they would be. I naturally assumed I would be an ace but that does not seem to be the case.

I remember reading in an old EGM interview that the game featured a sex mini game like God of War did. Did that make the cut for the game?

Doesn't know that "You" is used in both the singular and plural

can anyone here compare the demo to the retail level? I know supposedly its improved but no one has really came out and said if it has or not.

I was so ready to be playing the game tonight. I guess I'll try EB again tomorrow.

Is anybody else getting the "Gears of War" vibe from it? That is, it's a very good looking game that is short and has a suspect control scheme that people either love or hate. I think the only major difference is the amount of marketing $$ that have been put in each game.

Retail game actually has a much better frame rate in the level that's featured in the demo.

My Impressions:

- Story is cool (I like Wusha-style drama, this is kind of an east west mix, but so far not bad). Cutscenes are gorgeous.

- Action is great, but a bit repetitive. However I keep getting new unlockables as I play, which is nice. As I get better at the game, it's easier to whittle down the 30 guys very quickly, but I never mash. Finishing a combo and then blocking and countering is very satisfying! It's basically arena => shooting level => arena => Kai level so far.

- Graphics are amazing: It's almost too much to take in, stuff is shattering, enemies are flying all around you, it's pretty mind blowing. I've never seen an action game with this much going on at once, to be honest, and it all has physics attached to it.

- ...however the framerate suffers a bit in some parts. The reason is there are too many guys & stuff on screen. For example, when you first encounter Bohan there are like a bazillion guys standing behind him, and it's like, oh shit all of those guys! And then in most arenas, there's tons of destructible items. I'll toss a guy into a shelf and the whole thing will shatter and the plates and apples will fly everywhere. It looks really amazing, but the framerate will dip.

In scenes where there aren't so many guys on screen (think 15 or 20), the game runs very smoothly and is totally great. When there's like 50 guys on screen, not so much. It's not unplayable, but it's not ideal, and it does bug a little bit.

I'd prefer that in the next installment, they focus on hitting that 60 FPS, if possible, and then add a bunch of stuff.

- I like the Kai levels a lot!

- Music = Great

Anyway, according to everyone accounts I'm 30 minutes away from beating the game, so we'll see :p

From what I've played, GS' review of 8.0 is pretty much spot on. A sequel to this game could be fricking amazing though. This is a great new start for Ninja Theory.

The fall season of awesome games really has started by the sounds of it. Sounds like Ninja Theory has proved themselves and hopefully a HS2 would address the issues people have. From a team whose last game was Kung Fu Chaos, and the amount of struggles they had to go through to get this game published, they deserve some pats on the back.
