He suggested me that capture card! :lol

And he's right about it. You can only use it with the TEST PS3 since you can turn off the HDCP there.

BTW, I just got the game and it sucks. Low poly, low res texture, 20fps, stuttering and tearing are EVERYWERE. Whatever happened during the development of this shit, the E3 2005 version was miles better.

And WTF is Kai holding in her hand during the Rescure cutscene for christ sake? She has NOTHING in her hand. Did you forgot to put a little stone or something Ninja Theory?

I'm terribly disappointed. Folklore looks and plays much better than this.

Fuck you.

Did you end up masturbating?

The chapters selection screen is indeed the best thing the game has to offer.

Wow, are you serious? That sounds like my impression of the demo. :(

Do you prefer Lair?

Is this a serious post? The demo looked good apart from some tearing - I won't be getting this until Friday.

Keep in mind that TTP is a framerate/graphics whore. Things that stand out and are a big deal to him may not be to you.

BTW, all that is well and good, but how was the gameplay, story, ect.?

Yes.
Wow. That sounds terrible.

I still kinda want to buy the game, but I dunno, my opinion lines up with yours often enough that I'm not sure I want to bother. The demo was "OK", but the low framerate and jerky feel turned me off.

Between TTP and dark10x, you will not find people on GAF who are more picky about graphical imperfections.

Always been a day one for me. The longevity of a game has never caused me any issues. I'd rather have 6-7 hours of good fun, than it dragging it's feet just to make the hours up (plus my gamer time is precious time these days).
I felt Bioshock went on too long and it hurt my enjoyment.

I dunno man. I button-smashed my way till the Prison stage in Chapter two (took me 20 mins) and turned off the system to post what I posted. I just couldnt handle it. At least with Lair I had fun with the controls.

Fuck this shit. I want whoever is resposible for the downgrade of this game (I repeat, E3 2005 demo looked much better) to go work in the porn industry or whatever. Game even stops for split of secs from time to time during normal exploration! WTF. It even autoinstalls on the HDD!

That sucks. I was willing to ignore some of the issues with the gameplay (its obvious they played it safe with the game design) but screen-tear is something that fucking bothers me quite a lot and sounds like they made no effort to optimise this game. Better off saving my cash I think.

Ya, I have to say WTF. The demo looked pretty damn amazing, and every video I've seen has been upholding that level of visual quality.

I have to think this is some joke on TTP's part. Either that or he's finally reached that fabled level 11 of graphic whorism.

That's because you keep looking at Nariko's ass rather than the whole picture.

i hope ttp is just being overly fastidious here -- excessive screen tearing can really get on my nerves. but the performance of the demo only really bothered me during that initial moment on the ridge, so i think i'll be ok with the final game

You sure the game looked better in 2005? Are you sure it wasn't just because you were used to PS2-style SD graphics at the time? The vids of the 2005 demo don't look all that different to the final arena in the demo.

the 2005 demo had a very different look to its lighting -- i don't know if it was better, but it's changed a lot

The demo section runs better than those that come before and after it. The fight on the pillar for example, is perfectly smooth. I wished the game run like that all the time.

I wouldnt say screen tearing is "excessive", but it's there.
Is the mix of the worst that can happen in a 3d game (stuttering, low frame rate, tearing and flickering shadows galore) that drives me mad.

Also I hoped they would fix the ragdoll system but no, enemies are still weightless when they die. WTF guys. You cannot accept this with a straight face.

Just one example. Please take a close loot at the E3 2005. Do you see that moving shadown being casted on the floor by something out of the screen? There is no such a thing in the actual game.

I saw the screen tearing, shadowing artifacts and all, I just think it's more than acceptable trade-off for the overall graphics quality.

I'll wait until you finish the game, but given the past trend of your take on graphical flaws in a game, I don;t know how much of it I can trust.

We see "downgrades" all the time, no? Halo E3 06 rings a bell.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma stops from time to time during exploration, even with a full install.

Yeah and screen tearing is there as well. But it runs at 60fps! And animations are super. And it's actually fun to play.

About the "past trend". So Lair is smooth to you?

i just get to save more and more money. Hopefully Uncharted doesnt bomb... it looks like ratchet and clank is the only sure thing this year.

Although there is so much hate spewing forth from TTP but the reviews dont reflect it, while the lair reviews were utterly killer.

Actually, I think it was. She's a bit 'off', you'll see more of her little quirks later on in the game. But I have to agree with TTP on some part, there are moments of screen-tearing, but to me, they were quite redundant. It's not a real game-breaker. The low frame-rate can happen at times when there is too much on the screen, but again, nothing that really deplores you of your gameplay imo.

Then again, I'm not a real graphics-whore, so I think the game looks fine.

Trust me on this, there will be someone who will rip R&C apart for not being original enough or whatever. I've already seen it happen with previews. Not to take away from TTP's credibility, but there's always people who are going to see reasons to not like something, for every game, and I guess it's just how things are.

TTP thinks Folklore looks and plays better, which is something I simply cannot agree with on any level.

Lair's framrate hasn't bothered me yet (I'm on chapter 13 or 14, can't remember, but AFAIK that's far into the game). I am not bothered by dropping framerates or tearing.

I would hardly call Sigma fun. I don't like the game. Fighting and more fighting. That's all it offers. No story, no big areas or anything truly epic from what I have seen. It has a well developed combat system that never makes you feel limited, but the camera and general lack of anything but fighting has made me regret getting it.

I couldn't agree more, I wouldn't mind the fact that it is quite hard if they gave me an incentive to battle through it, the lack of storyline has put me off trying any more.

I hope Heavenly Sword gets the balance right and offers both storyline and decent combat. I am sure it wont be hard, and it definately wont be long but that will mean I can enjoy it all more, rather than trying to rush through it because I know it will take over 20hrs.

Yes.

Mind explaining what else, besides the evidently HORRIFYING graphical mess, bothers you about it. Oh and yeah, I know it's been said but Kai isn't supposed to have anything in her hand.

two strange things are happening in this thread; one person is defending the game nonstop, another is bashing the game nonstop.

XHitoshuraX ,Mesijs, wtf?

I'm not bashing the game nonstop, sorry that it looked like that.

I liked Heavenly Sword a lot, from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed the cinematic experience, because that's what HS is. I loved steering the arrows and cannonballs. I loved superstyle moves. The graphics are great.

However, I want to correct the image that the game has great gameplay. Maybe a lot of people don't care and I think that the majority of you enjoy it, just like I did. But don't expect a deep fighting game whatsoever. Expect to win every battle without a lot of resistance, except some boss battles.

The only thing I want to do is bring the balance right in the discussion. Heavenly Sword is not an AAA-title but it's great nonetheless.

I'm glad your response turned out like it did. I know there is a large population of Ninja Gaiden supporters that would probably not be happy with criticisms of the game. Opening the thread, I figured I would be treated to a long rant.

I felt the way you did. The lack of story or large environments or basically anything outside fighting has really turned me off. At first, when playing the demo, I figured that was a mere taste of the game. Only to discover later, that the demo was the game in a nutshell. Corridor fighting with a few enemies on screen and a rinse and repeat formula. Advance to new area, fight, advance to new area, fight, ect. Throw in a couple small "puzzles" if you could call them that, and that seems to be that.

And I admitt that the game has its flaws. As far as being a AAA title, I think thats purely subjective. If looked at, gaming wide, no HS certainly isnt. But for the PS3 specifically, there arent many other games out that match this titles granduer.

TTP is a typical example of "buying without doing enough research".

I basically know what I can expect now after the demo and all the trailers and so on.

You're a graphics whore, don't take my approach to visuals, it doesn't fit for you cause if it did you would look at the whole picture more instead of focusing on individuals elements all by themselves again and again to talk about what you hate most of all.

Do any Europeans have the game yet ??

First post says 14th of september, normally things get in stores 2 days early, but the store I normally get my stuff from doesn't have it yet. (they had super paper mario and that's only supposed to come out friday so...)

I'm buying it just to play something on that shiny black thing and for the amazing cutscenes.
