Yeah I know what you mean. I cont want to turn this into HS teh pwns NG though.

Unless something miraculous happened between the demo and the final there is, in IMO, no chance HS will even come close to "pnwing" NG.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions Of Norrath are hack & slash games. Untold Legends is a hack & slash. Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn't, and neither is Heavenly Sword.
And no, the term isn't derogerative at all, it is just the wrong one to use here. It has nothing to do with the quality of the game.
I think I know how you feel about this, probably the same when I see FPS games being refered to as "shooters" or "shoot-em-ups" when that name in my mind is reserved for 2D scrolling SHMUPs :-D

Very nice looking, but that voiceover was like an advertisement for the console, and not the game itself. Purist in me thinks that's crap, but I can see where are they going with that approach.

Eh, I think that depends. For example, do you think GoW2 "pwns" NG? In some ways sure it doesn't, but I think in many ways it does, it depends on what you're looking from a game.

sigh, it doesnt need to pwn anything. Both are great games.

It looks like gamestop actually has the fifth Anime posted (someone made a thread about it)..eh, Ill wait for the youtube and then I'll flip them to HD when made avaliable.

Incredibly Naive
well the game drought has been over, and lair was a bust, warhawk is a hit and satisfies multiplayer needs (although there is always resistance still :)), let's hope to God heavenly sword delivers, the demo was great, reviews are looking good, and I'm getting ready :), when's the hype train start?

As soon as people stop confusing the review scores of Lair with this game.

I haven't been this excited about playing a game since GoW2, and to a lesser extent, BioShock.

And for good reason!

Game Videos and GT have it up. The official site does not...interesting. HD GT versions should follow suit at least for the Anime.

You're calling Ninja Gaiden Sigma "a hack and slash"? Are you insane? How do you think that reflects on your literacy and ability to appreciate action games?

Surely if videogaming is going to expand and mature overall, we can't spend too much time worrying about genre names and pidgeon-hole'ing titles? Terms like 'hack 'n' slash' were coined when only a couple of games in the genre existed. All the titles that developed on the genre, or blurred the boundary lines between genres have made some of those genre names a little redundant or confusing, but we still need them to discuss games to create a loose sence of what is going on.

Music nerds can cope with totally different sounding genres sharing names like 'RnB', 'hardcore', 'garage' etc., because they share something somewhere in common. Maybe one day we'll manage to do the same...

And almost by definition, a 'genre' is a loose term open to interpretation, so none of us are right on this debating what counts as what business

Well I think rather than abandoning completely the genre classifications, they need to be refined. Case in point is the Ninja Gaiden/Heavenly Sword debate.

They are two different games, but they share the underlining themes. Most specifically the action adventure aspect.

Now to be fair, in terms of presentation, storytelling and music, Heavenly Sword has the advantage. Ninja Gaiden has near perfect (though inherently frustrating) game play.

Because Heavenly Sword has more "positives" than Ninja Gaiden does, is it the better game? No, they are different. Both great, both different.

im gonna start playing this game on Hard from the begining

Well I'm presuming Hard is "Hell mode" (might not be....which would be great!) but if it is...then I'm afraid you'll have to wait until you've completed it on normal first before you can play it on Hell mode.

I thought they (devs) said Hell/Hard difficulty is open from the start.

might as well answer the question, in my copy it was avaliable from the start.

Ah ok - a review I read said that "after you've played it, you can then play it on Hell mode" - which I suppose is true whether it's open from the begining or not! I just interpreted it wrongly.

thanks.

I will play it on normal, and then again on Hell - want to get my moneys worth :)

XHitoshuraX, so you have the game? How did you like it overall?

Could you or Mesijs tell me how big the install file is, and how long does it take to install?

Yeah, same here. There's something about HS, that makes me think I'm really going to like the game a lot - it's a bit painful when it just gets lumped together with Lair, for hell knows what reason, when I think it will deliver much more, at the end of the day.

Well I actually cannot comment on the install file, but I can say it takes no longer then the (figures) Ninja Gaiden file.

This is wrong. You can only play on Hell after you completed normal. After you complete normal, you get a screen which says 'Hell mode unlocked.'

Until now, Hell mode isn't that hard. Not hellish for sure. Maybe at some more difficult stages it gets really hard, but I don't expect it.

Ok I stand corrected, the retail version does indeed make one play through the game once.

Most of that is pre-production - and they shifted platforms.

From a PC to PS3 - only because nextgen systems weren't out. If anyone says "XBox" i will murder them. :D

Oh yeah I was right about having to unlock Hell Mode! Sweet.

Haha. I'll take that as sarcasm. If not - then I'm quite happy to reinform you...after you've provided me with some source (for I can provide you with dev diaries from years ago, recent dev comments, and even the recent making of videos - you can only provide me with concept videos which show that it was sponsored by "Team Xbox")

Yup. Maybe he isn't aware that Ninja Theory used to be called Just Add Monsters. They did Kung Fu Chaos for Microsoft on the Xbox and when that was finished they started work (while still called Just Add Monsters) on Heavenly Sword. When Microsoft passed on the game development shifted to next-gen and they changed their name to Ninja Theory.

I'll do you one better, here's the initial concept for the XBOX:

Here's one before it was NAriko, actually I think this was even before the HS concept: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN6FlIcZEjE

Where do these Chinese Whispers start? I'm quite aware of the history of Ninja Theory - and even more aware and versed in the history of Heavenly Sword...being a nextgen title from day one. Microsoft "passing on it" (or Ninja Theory and Microsoft coming to an agreement that they werent right for each other) was based on one of three options - Microsoft wanted to make the game for less money, Microsoft wanted buy out Ninja Theory and move them into the US, Microsoft wanted HS to be on the Xbox (which NT laughed at).

One of the jobs Kim is tasked with involves planning the company's portfolio. Last console cycle one of the games that Microsoft published was a title named Kung Fu Chaos from Just Add Monster. Just Add Monster is now Ninja Theory, the folks behind Heavenly Sword. Did Microsoft pass on adding Heavenly Sword to their portfolio before Sony Computer Entertainment picked up the title? "Well, we talked to a lot of developers. We see lots of pitches," Kim began. "And of course we did have a previous relationship because of Kung Fu Chaos with that developer [Just Add Monster/Ninja Theory] and without going into a bunch of details, we try to be fairly selective about the titles that we put into the portfolio, partly because it's so expensive now develop really big, impact full titles." So did MGS pass on Heavenly Sword? "I'm sure that we looked at Heavenly Sword. One of the hardest parts of my job is to make those portfolio decisions. We don't make decisions about titles we do based on portfolio, we never have," said Kim. "I think that's a really dangerous thing. We don't have a horror survival game in the portfolio, but I know I could commission someone to go do a really bad one. That's not how we want to do things. We felt that we prioritized the right things. I still stand by that decision."

That too.

What the hell is so bad about the game starting out life on the Xbox?

Onimusha started out life on the N64.

Too Human on the PSX.

It happens all the time, yet people are getting all pissy about Heavenly Sword for some reason.

It wasn't a concept for the Xbox or any current system. It started as a next-gen game, and was always meant to be a nextgen game. Do you want me to bring out the big guns?

he doesnt say they passed on it.

I'm not getting shitty - I'm only informing you of the accurate history, and all this "it started on the Xbox" - or was intended to be on the Xbox is false.

I'll get the quotes if you like, I'll get a recent one from the forums if you like as well. Just hate all the chinese whispers spreading around.

To add, Ninja Theory Ltd was formed in November 2004 in Cambridge, England, by Nina Kristensen, Mike Ball, Tameem Antoniades and Jez San OBE. Ninja Theory was formerly known as Just Add Monsters and is the same team behind a game published in 2003 by Microsoft Game Studios, Kung Fu Chaos.

Can you please, explain yourself deep brown. If you do have information please explain it and stop dancing around like a ninny.
