WTF, John Rhys-Davies ( Sallah ) and Denholm Elliott ( Dr. Marcus Brody ) aren't in this? Bah. It will have to be extra special now.

Brody and Sallah were such an awesome duo. It's a shame they won't be around. :(

Damn, only a teaser? Why so late? Is it because Spielberg did one of his insanely quick War of the Worlds style shooting cycles?

Getting Elliott back would have been hard, seeing as how he died over fifteen years ago. But yeah, shame about Sallah.

Wow. Well yeah... shame about Sallah... <quietly whistles out of the room>

Can not wait to see the trailer. The one thing I will be asking myself: does it still feel like Indy, or is Harrison really too old?

Wow. I'm tempted to go watch Jumper just to see this. Assuming it is attached to that film, anyone know what movie it is going to play before?

I had heard the Spiderwick Chronicles but what do I know.

I fully expect him to say "Im too old for this shit" at least once in the film.

Better be in HD.
GMA is in HD. I would be stunned if they showed it 4:3 with bars on the side, especially considering it will likely be letterboxed for the SD crowd anyway.

It sounds like a trainwreck but I'll be there day one. Should have left the series alone imo
It was never meant to be "left alone" They have been trying to get a Part 4 off the ground since 1992, only 3 years after the third film.

I wouldn't have minded another Indy in 1992. But after watching Lucas ruin the Star Wars franchise with the prequels, and watching Spielberg phone in average popcorn movies...I'm not convinced

Indiana Jones will be different. Guaranteed.

Can't wait for this!

spielberg's made some great films in the past 10 yrs. see: munich

as for the star was prequels... i probably shouldn't go there. but the only reason they get hate is because we're not 12 anymore. not five star films by any means, but they were good movies and fit with the star wars cannon.

i don't see any reason to why everybody's so indcredulous about indy 4. and really, there was only one AAA indy movie to begin with (raiders). it wouldn't be muddying up anything sacrosanct

I'm ready for this.

I'm ready for the return of the popcorn B-movie.

It sucks that the generation behind me wants all of their movies to be some kind of mind-fuck life-altering, deep-thinking event, or they label it as total crap.

Lets bring some fun back to the movies.

I think this is pretty accurate.

At the very least we're pretty much assured a knockout performance from Cate Blanchett. I think that is reason enough to be excited. :D

Also, War of the Worlds is an amazing popcorn movie, so suck it. :P

you saw Rambo right?

I think Spielberg directing a new Indiana Jones movie is enough to get excited about, Blanchett or no Blanchett. I mean he's one of the greatest directors of our time and has rarely made a movie below standards. The only two movies of his I don't care for are Hook and The Lost World, and I even really like The Lost World up to a certain point before I feel that it finally falls apart. I just think not trusting one of our best directors, someone who has made countless classics, is kinda turgid. Now if Michael Bay or Rob Cohen were doing this, that would be a different story. But Steven Spielberg? Come the fuck on, this is going to be awesome. When we see Crystal Skull along with Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (lol) the world will be reminded who the king of adventure films is. Accept no shitty substitutes.

...

“The fans are all upset,” Lucas says. “They’re always going to be upset. ‘Why did he do it like this? And why didn’t he do it like this?’ They write their own movie, and then, if you don’t do their movie, they get upset about it. So you just have to stand by for the bricks and the custard pies, because they’re going to come flying your way.”

This is probably the most excited I've ever been for a film in the last 5 years.

I hope it's in HD.

Every major film is "in HD". That should be the least of your concerns. The film will look great I'm sure.

Can't wait for the trailer and can't wait for the film. I'm there day 1 for sure. Between this, The Dark Knight, Wall-E, and Bond, it's going to be a good year at the theater.

Sweet stuff!!!

cant wait for this, oh and now when I have MANABYTE close at hand can you tell about what date we shall be looking in stores for BLURAY EDITIONS OF INDY.STARWARS AND LOTR ??

I was watching Episode III the other day, simply yearning for that to be in HD. Good god when that comes out it'll likely be the best looking Blu-ray ever.

Star Wars won't be out in HD until the live action series is starting on TV, so probably not until 2010 or 2011.

LOTR who the fuck knows. The Tolkien Estate can seriously fuck over New Line right now.

I thought the fucking was already started? I saw an article on Yahoo yesterday and the estate alleges that New Line hasn't paid them one penny other than the upfront costs. Here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/business/media/12movie.html
Tolkien Heirs Sue New Line Over Millions From ‘Rings’

By MOTOKO RICH
Published: February 12, 2008

Following in the footsteps of Peter Jackson, the director of the Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, heirs to J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of the books on which the films are based, are suing New Line Cinema for failing to pay them at least $150 million, which they say they are owed as part of the movies’ gross receipts.

In a complaint filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, trustees of the Tolkien Trust, a British charity, joined trustees of a private family trust of Tolkien heirs and the British arm of HarperCollins Publishers in suing New Line Cinema for breach of contract.

Charging “unabashed and insatiable greed,” the plaintiffs said in the complaint that New Line, which produced and distributed the “Lord of the Rings” movies, had failed to pay anything despite a nearly 40-year-old contract that entitles the trusts and the publishers to 7.5 percent of the films’ gross revenues, less certain costs.

According to the complaint, the three movies generated about $6 billion in box office receipts and ancillary revenues from DVD sales, cable television licensing fees and other sales, although Steven Maier, the British-based lawyer for the trustees, said they had not been allowed to audit the receipts from the second and third films.

In the complaint, the plaintiffs argue that New Line has “clearly engaged in the infamous practice of creative ‘Hollywood accounting,’ ” by excluding certain revenue from calculations and racking up costs that have so far prevented the studio from paying out a single dime.

“I think that it’s going to be extremely interesting to see how New Line is going to explain to a jury that these films grossed $6 billion and yet by their calculations the creators’ heirs are not going to get even a single penny,” said Bonnie Eskenazi, the United States lawyer for the trustees.

A spokesman for New Line declined to comment.

According to the complaint, the trustees and a predecessor to HarperCollins signed a contract with United Artists in 1969 for the film rights to “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The trustees and the publisher were entitled to a 7.5 percent share of the gross receipts. New Line eventually inherited the rights to make the movies in 1998.

Mr. Jackson sued New Line in 2005 and settled last year, paving the way for New Line, owned by Time Warner, to produce two movies based on “The Hobbit,” with Mr. Jackson serving as the executive producer.

In the current lawsuit the plaintiffs are also seeking unspecified punitive damages and are asking the court to terminate New Line’s rights to make any subsequent films based on “The Hobbit” or “The Lord of the Rings.”
New Line has accounting issues.
