Official LAIR thread

Funny part is that a lot of reviewers do not completly finish the game they are reviewing...hence why I get iffy on reviews.

Poor Resistance. :(

"According to an un-named source, two reputable gaming magazines/websites have reviewed Lair and have each given it 9 out of 10. EDGE magazine is one of the these sites which reviewed Lair and gave it a score of 9 out of 10.

Gamezone, the other publishing website that also reviewed Lair and gave it a score of 9 out of ten. According to the un-named source, they label the game as having a “unique experience ”

I'm starting to think Edge & Gamezone review scores are true.

Or possibly, GAF -> Internet -> GAF

Because somebody posted it on a ****ing blog? *sigh*

No it just seems to be popping up everywhere.

Or possibly, GAF -> Internet -> GAF again like "DenogginizerOS" stated.

I'm kinda suprised really this hasn't been verified or denied by either Edge & Gamezone.

Can't wait. I put my pre-order for the US-Version down july 23th (hopefully play-asia delivers to Switzerland, my 1st import for PS3).

Playing Factor 5 games since Katakis and Turrican... I'm getting realy old!

Videos on PSN gives me a sort of Lord of the Rings feeling, just marvelous. I can imagine me playing this beast in front of the plasma, lights are dimmed, my childrens are asleep and the surround sound is tuned to the right volume. OMG.

LMAO... I saw that get started on the gametrailers site. The fanboy who started the thread (and I'm not overstating, he's truly a crazed fanboy) must be wanking himself into a frenzy.

Huh? Resistance got an average of 87.5% on GameRankings.com and I'd say that's more than fair.

Well, as long as YOU say it's more than fair, I don't know why anyone else would ever have a different opinion.

And I'm not sure that was the point anyway.

I'd be more accepting of the EGM review had they been by people I have the same taste in games as, but Garnett and Gregg Ford I have completly different taste in games with. Crispin I am pretty hit or miss.

Spoilered to avoid derailment:

No, he was blaming Resistance's review scores on the fact that reviewers don't finish games. But you could say that about any game. Admitedly Resistance picked up a bit towards the last third of the game, and certainly started to look fantastic at Angel's Lair, but to be fair so do most games. And just because the second half of a game is good - as in HALF the game is good - should the whole review just be based on the second half of the game?

Anyone else is entitled to their opinion, just as the 50 or so reviewers were who made up the 87.5% average on GameRankings.

Anyway, back to Lair...

Do reviewers really not finish games? They used to bitch and moan about how they had to play through mediocre games 2-3 times to write a review telling no one to buy it.

Kinda. I read a Resistance review that talked about a single player weapon (Hailstorm) in multiplayer when that weapon is not available in MP at all.

Is it fair to review only the first half of the game when the 2nd half may be horrible, or vice versa. Not really, I'm not saying this is always the case but it seems to happen more and more these days. For example the Gerstmann review of twilight princess... I would have been fine with his review but he Clearly stated in his blog that he didnt even finish the game and said he was sure there was a tri-force hunt in the game, which there was not. He actually reviewed it before even getting very far, thats just ridiculous.

What about local MP? I don't know either. I'm just asking.

Now days reviewers hardly ever finish games. 10 min first level reviews are common place.

Compare that to Jeremy Parish who spent 3 days straight playing nothing but the game and he ended up giving it a ten. The 1UP people have earned a lot of respect in my eyes. It's the only place on the web where I know the editors enough to know what they tend to like in games and makes the reviews worth reading.

Honestly, this is just par for the course nowadays.
Developers need to make the beginning of their games the most impressive, then work on the end being most impressive, and then flesh out the middle parts :lol

I don't want to sit for hours in front of something medicore just to get to something good. I'm not saying Zelda, Resistence, or Lair are examples of this, I'm just saying in general.

And the reality is that MOST reviewers do NOT finish the game they're reviewing.

That was Eurogamer. They did it twice, actually, in both their reviews. :lol

thats most likely because ya really wanted it to be good. haha

Just to back up my earlier post... :lol

The reason for BAD REVIEWS are attributed only for the sole use of SIXAXIS which some reviewers have found to be erratic and some to be a unique experience

They should've provided stick controls. I played the hell out of Rogue Leader and had no complaints about the controls.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that they were giving the option of analog control or SIXAXIS tilting when it comes to the game, or am I just reading the past couple of posts wrong?

Nah, this concerned the ground gameplay

I think they eventually went for stick gameplay only on the ground. Not 100% tho.

Motion sensing is always going to be controversial. I think it would be smart for any game to offer an alternate control scheme. Rainbow 6 uses motion sensing for the snake cam and it's horrible. But fortunately it can be turned off.

This is why Super Rub-a-Dub was so misunderstood.

Wait someone found the motion sensing in super rub a dub confusing or hard?

No everyone just hated the game. Myself not included; I could rock out to those smooth poppy Rub-a-Dub tunes all day.

Well, that was a risky choice, but they did it. Julian (meh, can't remember his name's spelling) said that it also felt much more consistant with the game, which could be a good argument, I think (that's mentionned in the EGM's Lair review, they had a bunch of "questions" for him).

I just dl'ed EGM's september issue and read the review. Well, all I can say is that I'll certainly give the demo and try, but I'm still not completely turned off this game. I mean, EGM's testers complaints sound like it's completely personnal. We already have some people impressions saying that the game controls are alright.

Edge Rumour DEBUNKED!!! Its not in the new issue.

Zelda phantom glass - 9
Blue Dragon - 6
Transformers - 2
Odin Sphere - 6
Ouendan 2 - 8
Monster madness - 5
Exit 2 - 7
Hour of victory - 2
Tenchu Z - 6
Calling all cars - 6
Ghost recon 2 - 6
More brain training - 7
Anno 1701 - 8

ok so that one is debuked and we wont see an Edge review for this game in the near future. Thx fr clearing this up^^

edit: Odin Spheres only 6? OMG

I think the hype train for Lair derailed sometime ago because no one seems to be really even talking about it anymore in the OFFICIAL thread.

it's still a day one purchase for me, hyphy is irrelevant

I think if you play it for more than 10 hours, you'll feel the same way.
At least, that's how I feel.

I'm still very interested in Lair, just a bit cautious. Waiting for more reviews.
