Itt's shipping tomorrow and should be in stores on Friday. I'm picking it up that day so I will gladly post some impressions. Just be warned through I've always enjoyed Factor 5 games while the majority have not. :lol
 
No reviews, almost no publicity and a stealth release :(

Its not looking too good, Ill wait for Gaffers thoughts though... Im still curious about it.

Where did you find this information? I think I remember you saying that your local Gamestop was selling it and that you saw that online retailers had a ship date of the 30th but amazon, best buy and some others I looked at last night still say September 4th.

Whenever I can find it, I'll buy it. Impressions will then be forthcoming.
 
this game is certainly one of extremes -- the game looks extremely beautiful while the gameplay looks boring and uninteresting. it doesn't look like it's fun to play at all -- not only in this video but in all of the clips/trailers we've seen.

maybe factor 5 should stop making games and focus on developing middleware-engines only.

I'll be picking this up as soon as I beat a couple of games in my backlog. Don't forget that familyvideo sells new PS3 games for $50. I've saved a boat load of money already on new releases already.
 
I really don't care about the reviews so far... all over the place. As soon as somebody buys it here I'll listen to their impressions (as long as they're serious!) and then decide.
 
I think that a few of the "bad" reviews stem from the fact that the reviewer doesn't like teh control scheme, or didn't take the time to practice with it.

I'm picking this game up as soon as I can.

That's my concern too.

I may just pick this up for myself, so I'll put impressions in this thread for anyone interested. I'll try to remove those rose-tinted goggles beforehand too.
 
I am certain the game isn´t great, however with regards to

1. The PS3 library (yes it does suck)
2. Heavenly Sword also seems mediocre and there are better alternatives on the system (Gow 1 and 2 + Ninja Gaiden)

I might just get this anyway since I usually enjoy flight games.

I went back to my Gamestop today to pick up Wild Arms 5, and asked the manager, he once again told me the street date is the 31st, this Friday. I'll have impressions later that night of the game if anyone is interested in it.

I might pick it up as well since it's only 50 bucks from family video. If anyone is considering purchasing lair or any games from family video, I have a $5 off coupon code for first time buyers so just pm for the code.
 
I didn't ask the release date while there, but went by my local GS today to pick up Blue Dragon and they had a pile of Lair official strategy guides. I flipped through it briefly and noticed in the table of contents that there's quite a few levels, or at least the guide had them divided up as such (could be separate sections for bosses or whatnot).

I still have this pre-ordered but I think I'll await GAF impressions as well before picking it up.

The stealth release is a little worrisome.

Best Buy has 10% off of video game coupons this weekend for Reward Zone members. I suspect this being a long holiday weekend devoid of reviews from websites due to vacationing writers is also helpful. As far as advertising, LAIR has been on the kiosks for PS3 in video form for quite some time.

It's not really a stealth release - they've been getting review builds out to major mags since as early as June. I've seen print advertising based on the whole PS3 white room theme and they've posted music from the game on the official Playstation blog. More than anything, they're advertising is probably thrown off by the last minute delay and at this point they're probably just trying to get it out as quick as they can since they're already late.

LAIR has definitely had more print ads than any 360 game or Wii game. They've stuck, wisely, with two page spreads for all their white room advertising. And I've seen it all over the place.
 
I have mine pre-ordered. As soon as it's out, I'll have it and post impressions here. And I'm pretty much a Factor 5 / Star Wars hater :lol

I tried to say this when Lair was revealed and the masses attacked me. I'm still getting this when it hits $30 since I <3 teh dragons.
 
whoa. Watching that video leads me to believe that Lair is the best looking game of all time. Are those human character models real time?

They should try something other than flight games. They go with Sony and get a big budget and a chance to create a new franchise outside of SW flying games and what do they do? Another flying game.

Yep, the worst looking elements of the game are pre-rendered. The huge open environments comprised of every little detail spanning a dozen miles with up to 10,000 npc's equipped with their own AI routines though, is real time.

There's been ad's in EGM and Game Informer, what more do you want? Lair was never going to be a big tv-product anyway.

Just get some other reliable developer to make me my dragonriding game, complete with midair dragon melee, and I'm all for it.
