Kobe is not a true leader. As simple as that. He puts himself before the team. He is extremely talented , but he doesn't have the basketball IQ to do the little things that will help his team win consistently like the really great players do, no matter if they're not surrounded with as many talent as they might've been in the past. Putting up big numbers has never meant a player is doing the best for his team. Look at T-Mac last year or Iverson, pretty much his whole career. The intangibles are just as important as the stats when it comes to leading a team to a title.

He wanted his own team, he's got it. Now Lakers fans can only hope he can figure it out.

People said the same stuff about Jordan, about how he would never be a truly great player because he couldn't win in the playoffs. Granted those skeptics were 100% correct, but that doesn't mean the same thing will happen with Kobe.

It took KG a long time to figure it out and even guys who "figure it out", you still need a great surounding team to win a championship.

Jordan? Who is that? You mean Ceballos, right? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT?

Well, IMO KG hasn't figure it out either. He is just a stat padder, who got carried to the WCF last season by an inspired Sam Cassell. He lacks leadership and is a nutcase.

What is worrisome about Kobe is how little he does to make his teammates better. Just look how Odom has stalled. Going from All-Star like performance last season to an underachiveing 2nd option.

Do you know all the other Lakers starters are having career years in fg% and ppg (only Lamar has a slightly lower ppg than last year)? And Kobe is having a career year in apg. Don't you see the relationship there?

Kobe Bryant has agreed in principle to a settlement with the woman who accused him of sexual assault, sources told ABC News on Tuesday.

There we go again with STATS, STATS, STATS!

I don't see it really. Making your teammates better means, not only that they'll improve their numbers, but also making them feel more confident and capable of winning games, not having to defer so damn much to the star(s) players and trusting each other. Something I don't see with the Lakers.

Plus with Kobe now having the ball in his hand 90% of the time, I don't see how his assists wouldn't go up?

Eh, whatever. I guess dude will criticized until they are a dominant team again. If you actually watch their games, I don't know how anyone can say he's not making plays and making guys better :p Did you see the clip I posted. 4 3s in 50 seconds to force OT and Kobe only hit the last one. That wasn't confidence by the other guys to take and make those? Confidence from Kobe for giving up the ball?

Kobe has played really dumb basketball this year, I am a diehard Lakers fan and I will be the first to admit it. He is so impatient to get the ball sometimes, he just settles in recieving it like 30 feet out and he jacks up way too many threes. That is not smart basketball, especially for someone as talented as him. He needs to be patient and start reading defenses, it would be nice if they could get him the ball at the top of the key, that would put so much pressure on most defenses. He has all the physical tools to suceed, but that won't mean anything if he can't learn how to use his teammates to read and breakdown defenses. It always seems like he is playing one on one, I know he is a smart guy though and could do a lot more.

Now THIS is how an objective Laker fan does an accurate assessment of Kobe's game. Thank you Bionic for being realistic. Yeah, Kobe's killer offensively, but he seems to get kinda lazy on the defensive side. I watched last weeks game against the Pistons, and they just rolled the Lakers up on fast-break plays (PISTONS !...FAST BREAKING!!!).

I've calmed down on the Kobe hate because, frankly, this kid owns himself so much that I almost feel sorry for him. That's why I'm checking out the young guns and their poised and focused guard play. Kirk Hinrich, D Wade, Ben Gordon, these guys are making believers out of me because they're not forcing their stardom, but letting it happen naturally. No matter how Laker fans see it, you need to face the fact that Kobe was riding Shaq's Coattails to stardom for years. He should be sending a thank- you card everyday for last year's contract as well.

I've also figured out that people here don't actually hate the Lakers, it's actually just Kobe :p...... Konex, you have my sympathy for actually liking this dude :(

That quote does not sum up Kobe's play at all. Sure, he makes mistakes (who doesn't?) but you make it sound like he's Jamal Ctawford or something :lol

Bionic is a frontrunner and it seems he's given up hope. He'll be back next year... :p

If any word deserves to be banned on this forum, it's Kobe. He's not even a top 5 player this year, yet 4/5ths of the posts are about him.

I can sum up Kobe in 2 sentences and we never have to speak of him again.

Kobe Bryant has alot of talent, he is very athletic and has hit quite a few clutch shots in his career. At the same time, Shaq carried him to 3 championships, he only was able to make those clutch shots because he fucked up so many times during the game keeping the other team close (law of averages), he is a bad shooter, and like Iverson, he has a negative effect on the other players on his team.

Now if you want to "Hail C-Webb, Philadelphia's saviour" feel free to do so. A player with his talent, charisma, and incredible smile is definately more worthy of your attention than a taller Iverson.

I don't think Kobe was riding Shaq's coattails at all. Shaq could probably have beaten a few of those teams without Kobe in the playoffs and vice-versa, but there is no way in hell the Lakers ever get by the elite teams without both playing together. Kobe was definitely more effective than Shaq in a some of those playoff series too and he always seems to be a killer for San An (who were especially effective at slowing down Shaq), as the Spurs fans can probably attest to. :D On the other hand, I thought Shaq was really the difference in a lot of those games too, especially against Sacremento. Finally, Shaq has never seemed to be the same player after he came back from that surgery. I remember in 2000, it seemed like even a double team couldn't stop him and no rebound would ever get away with him. Now he can't break through doubles like he used to and his rebounding is still great, but not half as good as it used to be.

Konex, I am not a frontrunner, I just call it the way I see it. I think Kobe can improve on all of those negatives I listed about him, but you have to be blind to not see that Kobe could be so much better if he made better decisions and had more patience. Does it hurt him that his point guard is Chucky Atkins and that that he has 92 Small Forwards on his team? Of course! But, in the salary cap era there will always be weaknesses in every team, so he is going to have to adjust him game and hopefully take notes on what I suggested for him. :D

Prior to the Kings trading Webber, you can argue that they did not have a weakness at any position. They might not have had the best player at each position, but they would all start on the majority of teams. You can make the same argument for the Spurs, though Bowen could be considered a weak spot.

It's not lack of basketball IQ that makes Kobe an unqualified leader, it's just one simple fact: He is not JORDAN, as much as he tries to be.

I always thought Christie was a liability on offense (though he was better when he was younger). On offense I think you make a good point though, they really didn't have any glaring weaknesses (especially because they could have put in Jackson in for Christie if they needed more scoring). The Spurs are the closest thing we probably have to a complete team though, but that is more of the exception then the rule.

Given Konex's past, I think his endorsement of me as a frontrunner is probably the best evidence possible that I am not a frontrunner.

Well, when he is not punching teammates, he is yelling at them on the court, making them feel like shit. Except when they're veterans like Cassell and Sprewell. Then he is too afraid to even challenge them, when they're not playing up to par.

What the hell is Joe doing in this picture?

I've seen Iverson play 12 times this year. That's about the same amount I've seen Kobe. Based on what I've seen of AI, he'd probably average about 35 points a game (provided he can make his FTs) if he got the number of phantom foul calls Kobe gets on the exact same types of plays and contact. Why are the refs so hard on AI when it comes to giving him calls that ever other star, except for KG gets?
