Official NCAA Football 06 Pre-Release Thread!

I am playing the game and trying to post at the same time, but this game is phenominal.

This was one of the more best previews I've ever had read.

FMT, start a website called "Maddenrox.com" and write really poorly. Wait a few months and you'll be rolling in free EA shwag.

Sounds like NCAA 06 got an unofficial early release. Some CompUSAs are selling it :lol

I read this over at OS, and now the rumor is that EA gave EB the go to sell it this week. Some say it's true, some don't.

i called compusa and the girl said "it's not available for sale yet" and i said "so you dont have it?" and she said "....... no"

then i said how about i come down there and see if its in, sweet thighs!

and she was like well since you put it that way ill put one on hold for you

and THAT is how i ended up getting ncaa 2006 early from compusa! ill post impressions later!

I once read at OS a thread asking how long it took to poop after you ate. Just something to ponder when you read rumors at OS.

Dear lord save the GAF from Sports Gamers who feel the need to create threads regarding what city they live in and if anyone has found the game.

There are definitely people who got it early at CompUSA.

Last year's game was such a pile of horse shit that I haven't gotten excited about this year's edition, but now I'm finally getting ready to play some football. I may have to watch "The Program" while I wait for release day. I like it when Jimmy Caan gets mad at the egghead professors who don't want the player that got caught cheating to play.

I myself am not a constant pooper, but I am stirving for the "once daily" method. I don't really care about getting it early cause I finally picked up MVP and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Man is that one amazing game... R.I.P

The kiddies just drove me away from IGN (eons ago) and OS. You can only use the banstick so many people before the arm gets sore. ;)

I liked all the scenes with Kristy Swanson.

operation sports is a fucking joke. i will never forgive and never forget for their fuck up in regards to the ncaa 2005 beta for xbox. "there is no slowdown that i notice" you fucking idiot. that was the last straw for that fraud site

Well I still like most of the staff there, it is a select group of mentaly challenged posters there that make it a joke. Steve is a good guy but like any game I leave any opinions to myself as I play the game with my own hands. You have to remember that most of the games he plays are betas (not gold) on those special Xboxes. I seem to recall most reviews of the game failed to mention the slowdown also. He also does it on the side and makes no money (he had to pay alot of money out of pocket) when I was there. Throw in a job, a wife and kids and I think his members should be lucky they get what they do as far as media, questions answered ect free of charge. Just my humble 2 cents on that issue.

NOTE: When ESPN 2K4 came out and had 720p on the box, yet was only in 480p - his copy (beta) was in 720p. So what he plays is not always what we end up with. Plus he is not a big college football guy. I don't even think he has a team that he follows closely, he prefers the pro game and the Cowboys. I only trust a couple people when it comes to quality in a football game. Myself, because I know what I like. BKrich who is over at OS and knows his football and Bill Abner who posts a couple places but does some game reviews.

well the problem is i know for a fact that the slowdown was there, because i saw it with my own eyes @ e3. it is a little ridiculous to suggest that it was there at e3, then it WASN'T there in his beta, but then it was there again in the final version.

i understand that everyone has lives. wife, kids, gf, friends, job, etc. but my whole philosphy on things is that if you're going to commit to something and do it, at least do a good job. game reviews/previews are pretty much a thankless job which net you nothing but criticism no matter how you do it, but hey you decide to do a game website those are the consequences.

it's not that i didn't respect the intents of the staff, but when i go to a SPORTS GAMING site i expect meticulous and precise previews/impressions, and i just dont have confidence in OS to provide that. it's true that a lot of sites didn't mention the slowdown (IGN did and so did GS, but only 1 sentence i believe), but not all sites specialize in sports gaming. that is why OS should be held to a higher standard, and why i feel the site is sub-par overall (you are right about a lot of the message board too, it's terrible).

Fair enough, we just see it a little differently and you are entitled to your criticism. I just wanted to throw out things from the other side. I think one difference is OS is a free site. People at IGN, GS and all the magazines are paid for their work. I wrote a couple reviews for OS and while I was no expert on Arcade Soccer Games (Virtua Striker) somebody had to write it and I got the shortest straw. People write for OS because they love sports games, that does not mean they are going to be right in their reviews or please everyone with their opinion. I think the "higher standard" should be held to the people who do this for a living and charge people to read their opinion.

Yes, and don't forget a young and fetching Halle Berry. If only they didn't take out the part where they all lay down in the middle of the highway and let cars speed over them to "get ready for the game." With that scene, it might be better than Citizen Kane. Luckily I saw it in the theatre.

The unintentional comedy scale is shattered several times. My favorite is when the roided out lineman tries to rape that girl at the frat party and when the quarterback drives Kristy Swanson out to teh quarry real fast on his motorcycle.

Let's not forget the other glaring flaws with NCAA 2005 that were never mentioned in any review. The slowdown was negligible in comparison.

I have it on good word that there will at least be one meticulous review as opposed to last year's EA slobberfest reviews.

Yes there were plenty of issues not mentioned. Some that annoy me more then would annoy others. To me the "clipping/collision detection" throughout the game is the biggest graphical sin, far worse then the slowdown issue. To watch any play on instant replay is a "how not to" in graphic animation 101. Dropped passes are bad but there are far worse things in the AI.

As for "meticulous reviews" to each his own. I guess I have never followed any pack and needed someone else to tell me how good a game is. A game review is only one persons opinion, with a score attached for the easily amused-gamerankings fanatic-IGN board member who needs a value to complete his purchase of a game and/or life.

When in doubt rent. The best judge of anygame is the person shelling out the money for it. Unless it is a gift, then just be happy someone loves you enough to buy you a game. :)

I understand where you are coming from, but me personally, I'd rather invest the five minutes it takes to read a competent review than the money it takes to rent and the hours to discover game breaking flaws. Anyone who has played in our ESPN leagues here at GAF has experienced that. It usually takes us, hardcore sports gamers, about a week to figure out what the game crushing flaw is and how to use it. Then we have to create stupid rules to try and stop them which no one ever follows.

Personally, I think you're right, it's best to just play the game yourself. But if there's a person who's reviews you trust and can give you an accurate picture of the quality of a game, it saves time and money.

You know what really sucks is the pressure to rate a game higher than you feel it should be because of pressure from the pub/dev or from other reviewers ahaha.

Ah, the good ol' GAF ESPN 2Kx leagues. Totally true.

And I don't have money to rent a game, and then turn around and buy it. I mainly rely GAF word of mouth. It's great being a poor college student.

The hardest part about playing in a "legit" league is playing what everyone considers "legit". That is why simplistic games like Tecmo Bowl played amongst friends was so much better. Your opponent is withing punching distance if he attempts to block another extra point with LT. :)

Pressure reviewing a game is even higher when you get to know some of the people working on it. Especially if they worked on stinkers like every Final Four or Gamebreaker that 989 tossed out. Personally if I had worked on Final Four I would prefer to remain annonymous.

i think most people know what legit gaming is. there are times when there is definitely room for debate (for instance, manually blitzing or using the slot corner route), but people know when they are putting complete cheese out there.

tecmo bowl was great 15 years ago. but go back and play it now. the game is unplayable and a complete crapfest. for shame tecmo...!

I remember when Tecmo Bowl was awesome, then I pick it up and play it last week and I get 430+ yards with Bo Jackson on 20-something carries! Then again, thats more realistic then what NFL2K has give us the last 2 years.

I hope you are just kidding about Tecmo Bowl. We still play TB and TSB tourneys.

Most of the arguments I have run into in leagues are not what we would consider "cheese". It is just people play the game differently. Some people love to use the DE on every play where I like to use a linebacker. Some people will cry foul about anything and it's the little things that always get blown out of porportion. I tend to play with crappy teams just so I can avoid the conflicts of using better teams. Plus it gives me a built in excuse for a "L".

That's just wrong. Poor little 2K can't get a break around here. Oh well I loved you.

:lol Well for what it's worth, big backs will be racking up huge yardage in Madden this year too. :lol

More hating on the 2K. I am getting sad.

Unfortuantely EA has nixed the deal with the fine folks of Verbal Advantage, ensuring that future generations of Maddenites will be as well-spoken as the NFL players they want to emulate.

No hate on 2K. It did a lot of things right and Superstar mode in this year's Madden shows what it did right in particular. I'm just a little miffed about some of the changes to the running game.

Is the truck stick 2K4 esque? God I hope not.

From what I played at E3, FMT will back me up on this (I hope!), the truck stick is definitely an effective way to blast right through a defender. Say you're TJ Duckett or LT and you manage to squirm through the line and through the LBs. Now you only have to deal with the secondary right? Problem is, the safeties and CBs are much smaller than either of those two backs, and unless they do a gangtackle or attack at a weird angle, the back will be able to blast right through any single defender.

It's the 2K5 Ricky Williams effect. Hopefully it won't be as pronounced.

Worse yet, imagine you're Antonio Gates or Alge Crumpler and you blew right by your defending LB because you are much faster, who's going to stop you?

Oh I am just having fun. To each their own. Nothing can be done about my beloved 2K series. 2K5 (football and basketball) drove me nuts with some of it's additions so I feel your pain.

I am a bit concerend with Madden 06. Looks like the Madden Guys and NBA Live guys got some stuff mixed up. Apparently Live is going for 100% accuracy in their Superstar mode and Shawn Kemps data got entered in Madden by mistake.

I see. Because the truck stick was born from the hit stick, is there a negative effect to overusing it? With the hit stick, if you missed you were pretty much screwed out of the play. Is there some sort of negative animation? In 2K4 the issue was that you could infinitely blow through guys with no problem because there was no downside to charging.

You're more prone to fumbling is what we got at the show.

:lol

why should EA give a shit when you get the game? you're going to buy it anyways!

i love the quotes from people on this EA board that say things like "I've been a loyal customer for 15 years, and it makes me angry that you are not releasing it early." "I have a friend who is so angry he refuses to buy the game now"

but truthfully i don't know why EA would do this. if the game is packaged, finished, ready to go and literally waiting in the backroom @ a best buy or wherever, why not just let them sell it? it's not like you're competing with the release of another football game. it's not like people are going to be MORE hyped a week from now or anything. oh well though

it also appears that Angelus3001 has 286 posts in that thread alone. jesus christ!

also, from the EA staff member:

Guys,

I really appreciate your enthusiasm and love to see this much activity on the boards but I wanted to jump in here and say that EA would NEVER request signatures like this for early release of a game.

I am still doing some investigation on the early release and, because of the holiday, don't expect to have an answer until tomorrow.

Again, it is exciting to see so much enthusiam for the game and I am sorry that we can't put a copy into everyone's hands today but let me find out what is up and get back on the boards. I appreciate your patience and hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday.

Thanks!

Noooooooooooo!!!

*watches NCAA 06 videos and masturbates violently.

Maybe it's tied to media ad buys or something. At any rate I can wait another week without curling up into a fetal position and shitting myself unlike some of the guys in that petition thread.

Many places still do not have the game. Some places like Circuit City ship to a main warehouse and feed games out. Even the EB down the street has yet to get the game because they are a small store and get the slowest shipment. Then they have to cater to the large companies who have their advertising (mailers/sunday ads) setup for the 12th.

Now CompUSA is telling people they will have it for sale on the 5th. I guess losing $5000.00 on every $50 sale is going to please their stockholders.

Who knows they might up rthe street date to this week. I just do not see why EA would do it and possibly piss off a big customer.

Wait a minute, is this not coming out for the Cube at all? I swear I've never noticed this fact until now, so try not to make fun of me too much when answering.

Nope, no Cube version

Madden is coming to Cube though.

Even more confusing is they are finally releasing March Madness 06 on the Cube after nixing NCAA Football 06. I see that being a big seller for EA & Nintendo. :lol I guess they can send Mario and his gang to college.

Dicky V: Oh baby that Mario is a PTP'er and that little Kirby is a diaper dandy.

Brad Nessler: Please someone Shoot Me... Shoot Me now!
