They had to slow Harrison down somehow.

Shitty part about that mess is that it robbed him of DPOY honors for 2010. He got robbed, and I love Troy.

Also, just to be clear, my comment was not based in any research, just from watching a lot of football. If anyone has actual stats on penalty yards accumulated by player, feel free to fact check.

Could you maybe pull the base of the F upward, to make it more parallel to the line below it? Otherwise I like it!

I'm honestly surprised that Gore only held out for like 4 days. I wonder why he decided to report?

He's under contract, under the new CBA if you don't report to camp you're fined 30k per day you miss. He's a 3rd round pick so he can't afford that. He really is getting paid beans compared to other top backs and he's a top 10 back in the NFL when healthy.

Boss will be serviceable compared to Miller. I think the Raiders were looking for a blocker at TE (Zach developed into one helluva blocker after it being his only downside). From what Giants fans tell me Boss is a better blocker than receiver. I'll be content with that.

A lot of people forget about Marcel Reece, probably the best receiving FB in the league. He'll probably get split out to TE in 3rd down situations (The guy is a converted WR --> TE --> FB).

Eh. He just wasn't used as much as other TE's are in the receiving department. Under Coughlin that is what generally happens, hence why Shockey wanted to leave. Boss started out fairly lean and has developed into a fine blocker, but he still has ways to go. The problem that may arise is concussions.

That's what I was thinking. I love that work. I was thinking of doing a football and manipulating it into the GAF logo, but I'm not that skilled at such things and am supposed to be on vacation!

So the wife ok'd the NFL Sunday Ticket purchase. I layed it down as either we switch to Direct TV and get is as part of the package or I get the Sunday Ticket option without being a DTV subscriber. She wants nothing to do with satellite service and she's fine with me spending the money.

It's insanely priced but it's got the On Demand functions and I can watch every game to my hearts content so fuck it. I'm doing it.

Miller and Boss both suffered from 2 concussions last season so we'll see. Miller has more wear on him because of that felon Jamarcus setting him up for big hits.

Trust me, Eli did Boss no favors.:) Boss took some MONSTROUS hits with the Giants. The key though? He usually held on to the ball.

That is amazing. The only thing I would suggest to change would be to make the base of the F point upwards to the right so that there is a symmetry with the base of the A.

Let us know how it looks, I am a football addict, and if I ever get my job situation straitened out I would definitely consider this. I just worry it will be blocky and compressed like 720p youtube videos.

Somebody didn't watch the Top 100 popularity contest of 2011.

Hmmm, the people voting were actually involved in playing the game...

I do think Harrison is a better linebacker overall from what I've seen, except when they played in Super Bowl XLV, but the merit of a player isn't truly known until you're actually on the field playing with them or against them. Shitty thing to say but as a fan you really only know half the story and nothing will ever change that. You can see the plays as they happen but you don't how teams gameplan or which players they focus on when preparing for their next opponent. I think that goes a long way in determining a players overall value to a team.

Will do. I just recently built a new computer which I have hooked up to my Panasonic Plasma. That's where all of all my game watching (and general gaming) happens so I'm curious as to the quality of the service as well...

They keep saying that, but then when anybody talks about it they say they weren't asked and they don't know anybody who was asked.
It was a small panel of players at the Pro-Bowl that got to vote from what I've read. Supposedly.

Not to mention the criteria was all fucked up. The Criteria was for 2011 play and the first guy on the list was McNabb as some kind of lifetime achievement award...WTF?

Don't forget Gore in the backfield...Too bad our QB is Alex Smith and our O-line is porous at best...
Oline is fine, especially with Goodwin in now. Rachal needs to be replaced by Snyder though.

As for the LB debate, you guys are getting crazy now. It seems you're convinced that you can objectively and factually prove who is the best, so there's no more talking to you fellas. And no one in this thread ever asserted Matthews is the best LB in the league. Maybe OLB, but no one bests Willis.

IMO. ;)

DeaconKnowledge said:
Your argument is basically "I like Matthews better" especially considering you discount everything i've said about Harrison. Or is Matthews an outstanding player on a shit Linebacking corps now? Packers Age?

I wouldnt say its a shit linebacking corps but we have very average linebackers if you discount Matthews. Hawk is mediocre at best (although he played well last year), Bishop is solid, and we basically plugged nobodies at ROLB all year. There's not a single other real standout LBer on our team, unlike the Steelers where pretty much everyone is.

LB is definitely the weakest group of our D. And it's seemingly gotten weaker :(

Decided we didn't need him, as Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss are looking better than expected.

They decided they didn't need him right after they couldn't fit him under the salary cap.

The Panthers apparently picked up Legedu Naanee.

Chargers-Gaf, how good was this guy last year for San Diego?

Even though this purely looks like a move by Rivera to light a fire under the asses of Gettis and Lafell.
He caught 20 balls last season with Rivers slinging it to him. I'm sure he'll take that next step with Cam at the helm......

Kreutz, lol. Crying about how the Bears weren't negotiating with him in good faith, and he takes a deal with the saints which gave him half of what Chicago offered him. Enjoy your two million in a new city instead of the four million you would have had at staying home!

Olin Kreutz is exactly the type of player Matt Tennant can learn a lot from. Solid Oline depth and a good signing. ALthough I think actually Matt Tennant is ready to start.

So this free agency period:

Reggie Bush gone - replaced with Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles
Remi Ayodele gone - replaced with Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin
Randall Gay gone - replaced with Fabian Washington
Anthony Hargrove gone -replaced with Turk McBride
Jonathan Goodwin gone - replaced with Matt Tennant/ Olin Kreutz

Overall the team got better.

As for Olin Kreutz taking less money to be here, Shaun Rogers did too. Free agents are taking less money to be here than they can get elsewhere. Shaun had an offer for 6 million on another team but he chose to come here.

Need to start with a list, no? A few guys worth mentioning:

Justin Tuck - 76 Tackles, 11.5 Sacks, 6 Forced Fumbles
Dwight Freeney - 25 Tackles, 10 Sacks, 5 Forced Fumbles
Julius Peppers - 54 Tackles, 8 Sacks, 3 Forced Fumbles, 2 INT
Trent Cole - 65 Tackles, 10 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble
John Abraham - 40 Tackles, 13 Sacks, 3 Forced Fumbles, 1 INT
Mario Williams - 28 Tackles, 8.5 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble
Jared Allen - 60 Tackles, 11 Sacks, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 INT

I'm excluding one year wonders like Charles Johnson or Babin...

UPDATED with stats. Stats don't tell the whole story as mentioned earlier but for the sake of quick snapshots, etc.

Chris Long - 32 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 3 FFs, more QB pressures than you can count and really coming into his own now under Spags.

here's a good list that keeps track of all the NFL beatwriters around the league.

Harrison isn't even the most penalized on his team, that would probably be Kemoeatu or Colon, but it's definitely somebody on the Oline.

Giants bring back their token DE depth guy:

Patricia_Traina Patricia Traina
great news, great guy. DE Dave Tollefson has been re-signed. (Giants getting ready to move on from Osi perhaps?)

Never an amazing talent but a hard worker and good 4th/5th DE.

It’s only going to put a small dent in back taxes that are owed by Fuzzy Thurston, but the Super Bowl II ring that once belonged to the Green Bay Packers legend has been sold at auction.

Thurston’s ring fetched $50,787.50 on Thursday at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago. The ring had been seized by the IRS to help pay for back taxes Thurston owes. The government is trying to collect $1.7 million from him, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Thurston did not pay taxes for a restaurant chain he had a stake in more than 30 years ago.

The buyer of the ring is anonymous so it’s impossible to say if Brett Favre bucked up for it in order to get the ring back to Thurston. If he did, they probably want to keep that quiet or else the IRS will quickly have the ring back at an auction house near you.

lmao wow.

Now that I'm actually looking for these stats, I can't find them anywhere. Anyone know where to final penalty stats by player?

The Bears got a lot worse this offseason, and I think Kreutz realized that. Happy to have him.

So I decided to check out a Jets practice today, as their facility is only like 10 minutes from my house.

Plaxico was off to the side doing his own thing for the entirety of the practice, doing his rehab exercise by himself. It was a familiar sight for me as a Giants fan. Highlight of the afternoon was an impressive interception by Revis off of Sanchez. Revis came out of nowhere, jumped in the air, grabbed one of Sanchez's passes and would have taken it back for a TD if it were a live game. There was also a huge fight at one point. I couldn't tell who started it, but almost all of the offense and defense got into it eventually and there was a giant pile of bodies. A couple of crappy cell phone pics:

I'm hoping to get to a Giants practice sometime next week.

Im curious as well. Going from 12.0 sacks in his rookie season to having 13.5 total in the next 4.

Yea it seems bizarre. From a Pats forum the only thing I got was that he can't stop the run. Not sure how he fits into the Pats.
