I don't get people lamenting the onside kick. The Jets still would have run it right down the Chargers throats and gotten a first down. Who cares where they were on the field? Also, the onside kick probably saved them 5 seconds or so since there was no return.

It's taking a risk either way, but if the Jets are facing 4th and 1 from their end of the field, there's no way in hell they're going for it, they're punting. With the squib kick and soft defense the series before, it was clear Rexy was in full turtle mode. IMO, just kick it deep, odds of stopping them on three plays is greater than the odds of recovering an onsider. Hell, maybe the Jets even fumble the kick, who knows. Extend the game, coaches, extend the game! Anyway, the Chargers were doomed from many mistakes earlier, that's not the call that lost the game.

It should be noted that rankings are partially based on "wow factor" not "actually making your team better" factor. So the Jets get As for mortgaging the future for Mark SanRyanLeafchez and the Lions "really helped themselves" by taking a QB (and paying him almost $80 million) despite both needing a ton of help at numerous positions.

Most of the time I think Kiper & Co reward teams for making the whole drafting process more of a spectacle than actually judging them on the sum total of how they improved their team over the course of time.


And power rankings are really just another way of looking at the standings with somebody's opinion next to each little picture of the team's logo. Not real useful, but hey.
