I'm quite calm

I didn't expect a win last night, so the loss tonight doesn't matter as much

enough rehashing of the past, Forza, let's look forward to the future - together!

A glorious, high-definition, Leafs-less future.

Come on dude....Leafs in HD followed by the Canucks in HD as I lie in bed watching the late game.

The Leafs need to be there for the "annoyance" factor....

Current Eastern standings after Sunday's games:

Rank / Team / GP / Points
1. Buffalo 78 107
2. New Jersey 79 102
3. Atlanta 79 93
4. Ottawa 79 102
5. Pittsburgh 79 101
6. NY Rangers 79 91
7. Tampa Bay 79 90
8. Montreal 79 88
9. Toronto 79 87
10. Carolina 79 86
11. NY Islanders 78 84

I'm hoping the Leafs squeak into 8th if only so I can watch their implosion against Buffalo. Also hoping for a Sens/Pens 1st round 4th/5th seed brouhaha.

i'd rather see Sabres/Leafs or Sabres/Hurricanes than Habs (or Lightning).

i'd personally rather see Toronto and Montreal make it in, just because every story needs a villain (and Montreal has some good history with some teams)

It actually did hurt. Before the loss the Habs were in the driver's seat as they controlled their own destiny as long as they won. Now the Leafs have the upper hand with the game in hand. Of course that could all change again tonight.

... and we're back to square one. If Montreal can win 3, then nothing else matters. I cant wait for Saturday though. If Montreal and Toronto both win the 2 games beforehand, then Saturday night will effectively be a one game playoff series.

So Kronwall is out for the playoffs with yet another long-term injury. I'd be pissed if he hadn't been the worst of the regular 6 this year. Even Lilja has a better +/-.

Injury-ridden bust so far. *sigh*

Yup. If both the Leafs and Habs win the next 2, Saturday night will be like a game 7.

We'll see my man. It's either you or me for the 1st round of the playoffs. It's a pity we can't both get in, but one of us (you) will be banned for the 1st round.

Didn't Detroit sign Kronwall to a nice fat contract earlier this season?

Yeah, and I wasn't thrilled then, either.

I know they're high on this guy, but he really hasn't done shit in the NHL yet...besides get injured.
Most Wings fans love this guy....I don't get it. He hasn't even come close to his international level of play yet. If I hear one more person call him Lidstrom junior I'm going to ****ing puke.

speaking of kronwall... i wish staffan kronwall would hurry up and heal. he played incredibly well until he slammed into the boards and screwed up his ankle. Much better than he did in previous years

Pens have got the Sabres, Sens, and Rangers to close out the season. Good tests, all. I REALLY want them to get home ice in the playoffs. They play so much better at the Igloo.

Yeah he was damn good til he got injured, I heard though he was upset that the Leafs called up White, Bell and Woz before him when he is arguably better than those 3.

I'm the biggest fan of the pens in the world and have all the confidence in them.... But the realist in me knows that we are not getting home ice in the playoffs unless we get some help from Ottawa or Jersey losing as much as us....

I don't know if we can pull a 3 for 3 out of those games... Gonna be really hard....

Devils fire Julien

Canadian Press/TSN.ca

4/2/2007 1:02:11 PM

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CP) - The playoff-bound New Jersey Devils have fired head coach Claude Julien with less than a week to go in the regular season.

The surprising move comes with the Devils second in the Eastern Conference with a 47-24-8 record and 102 points.

The move was confirmed by a team spokesman.

Julien, a former Canadiens coach, took over the Devils on June 13, 2006.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello has done this before. On March 24, 2000, he fired coach Robbie Ftorek with eight games left and the Devils in first place. Assistant Larry Robinson was given the job of turning things around before the playoffs and New Jersey responded by winning the Stanley Cup.

Oh, I know. I wasn't really directing that at you. Was directing it at the hypothetical decision making process.

Must be some personal troubles within the team if that news is true. Wow, crazy. Your team is leading the division and you fire the coach with 3-4 games left in the season? Wacky.

The thing is... from all the interviews i have heard with Lou he does not build teams just to make the playoffs he builds them to win the cup. (unlike my leafs MLSE seems to build teams to sell Jerseys and keep the sheep happy)

There must have been something about his coaching that did not mesh with the team.

I hate the New Jersey Devils. I hope this blows up in Lamoriello's face. That guy has done no good for hockey as long as he's run that organization.

So Lamoriello is going to be the coach (like last year) according to TSN now.

In much happier news two of the leagues most exciting forwards are set to return this week.

Man, I just realized how close we're getting to a shootout potentially knocking a team out of the playoffs in the East. please please please please please happen.

So everyone I know is going wild over what Saturday's game could offer, though I'm looking more toward the two games before that, no need to get excited over something that could mean nothing in the end.

But if the Habs and Leafs really do meet in a one game series to determine who gets in, I can't even imagine how hard it's going to be to watch that game. I've wanted a Habs/Leafs playoff series since I was a kid, and Saturday's game might just be the closest we've ever come to that possibility.

One game at a time though, starting with the Bruins tomorow.

I made the cut, I'm going. :D

And yeah Jonsson has been a Ducks fan for a long time, he's just not as vocal with it as with the Leafs.

There must have been something about his coaching that did not mesh with the team.

This move is stunning (especially as a fan of the team) but this seems to be the answer. The most successful coaches the Devils have had are the kind who command immediate respect whether it was Lemaire and Robinson who had success as players that's second-to-none or someone like Pat Burns who won "Coach of the Year" practically every where he went.

I was skeptical of Julien when he was hired for that reason because he did not have that pedigree. He was winning me over this year because the team was playing so well, and looked unstoppable from Christmas through the all-star break. But many of those wins were games where the Devils came from behind to tie it up or win it in the final minutes of regulation after playing mediocre for long stretches of the game. When the injuries mounted the Devils didn't have it in them to pull out those kinds of wins. In recent wins over bottom-feeders like Philly and Boston the Devils have come out flat, even with crucial points in the standings on the line. That's not going to cut it in the playoffs and management didn't need to see the team fold in the early rounds to prove it.

In Lou We Trust.
