WOW@ Datsyuk's contract.

It's starting to look like Biron will get 7...especially with a good playoff performance(ask Brad Richards how much a good playoff performance can add to your salary).

for those of you interested in nashville attendance for the year...

The Predators experienced solid, though not spectacular, growth in attendance this season, with a final total announced attendance of 626,279 over 41 regular season home games, for an average of 15,275. This is the best in the last 5 seasons, when the Preds averaged 15,895 in the '00-'01 season (for reference, bear in mind that '98-'99 was 16,202, and '99-'00 was the all-time best at 16,600).

This season's average of 15,275 accounted for 89.3% of available capacity at Nashville Arena, up from 84.2% last season (14,428), and 76.8% (13,157) two seasons ago.

Peter Forsberg didn't arrive until Feb. 17 (game 29). For the 13 games with Peter, the average was 16,475 (96.3% of capacity including 6 sellouts).

I'm guessing Biron isn't going to have a good playoff performance this season.

My brother in law's birthday party wich was supposed to be on Sunday has been moved to Sathurday and no one there likes hockey, I'm ****ed :(

part of me wants to see the leafs win tomorrow so they get all excited, than have the islanders sweep their last two games and push both those loser teams out of the playoffs.

Stop being a pushover then. I'd turn Jessica Alba's pussy down for this game.

6-7 million a year for Datsyuk for seven god damn years?

Blah, I didn't want to see him go so I'll give Holland/Yzerman the benefit of the doubt I guess. Its definitely a nice overpayment though.

Gee it sucks that it happens to take place on SATURDAY because SATURDAY just so happens to be the same day as the game on SATURDAY. Too bad. :(

Imagine how screwed us pens fans are going to be with Crosby (who they will sign at any price). Malkin (who is better then Datsyuk) and Staal are in the same year too!

Damn I'm going to live up these years now or hope Mario has a winning lottery ticket....

The salary cap is what's going to prevent the Pens from becoming the next NHL dynasty.

Crosby will be the highest paid player in the NHL soon. Malkin will be paid IMO around the same as Ovetchkin and Kovalchuk, and Fleury will probably command around the same as the highest paid goalie.

Please tell me you added that bit in yourself for the GAF crowd. :p

Anyways, nice to see that the doom 'n gloom normally associated with Nashville's attendance may not necessarily be grounded in reality. There are a couple of other franchises that I'd much rather see move, and all of the quotes I read from Nashville players talk up the place and organization as one of the best around.

Still gonna whup your asses in the playoffs, though. :D

I can see Fluery getting a 3 or 4 year deal at 4-4.5 for the next contract... Bout what Depietro got (except not at 15 years)....

wait, did someone just say Malkin was better than Datsyuk?
Name / GP / Points
Datsyuk 78 87
Malkin 77 85

And Malkin is a 20 year old rookie and Datsyuk is 28. So yeah, I'd say Malkin is better. If not now, then next year.

As a Sabres fan I'm at the point where I don't even care who we play anymore, I just wish it was decided and we could get started already. If I had to pick I'd take the Islanders without DiPietro first since we just smoked them in our building just last week. I think the Sabres could take the Leafs without too much trouble, but playing them would piss me off because I know hundreds of Sabres season ticket holders would sell their tickets to Leafs fans to make money. Montreal can skate with the Sabres better than those other teams and their powerplay is scary, so they'd be my last choice. But let's face it, if the Sabres lost to any of those teams it would be a monumental collapse which I'm pretty sure this team is not capable of.

There's more to the game of hockey than stats, and I guess I just miscontrued this:

Malkin (who is better then Datsyuk)

Talk about an empty win. Oh well, hopefully we stay 6th. I'd much rather play the Canucks then the Preds or Ducks.

Hmm...

The Leafs need to beat the Habs in regulation to have any hope.

So if the score is tied 2-2 with one minute left, will Maurice pull his goalie???

Hmm. Does this sound about right for clinching scenarios? I'm sure one of the canadian networks broadcasts this after every Perrault: man of the century story but I don't even bother with cable. (whoops, edit to reflect pacific division)

Eastern Conference:

Buffalo Sabres vs. #8 (Habs/Leafs/Islanders)
Lots of possibilities and here...
Habs: Must beat Leafs to clinch #8. OTL to eliminate Leafs but not clinch. (!!!)
Leafs: Must beat Habs in regulation and have NYI lose one game to clinch #8
NYI: Win both of their games and have Toronto win vs. Habs to clinch #8

Atlanta Thrashers vs #6 (Rangers/Lightning)
TBay has an insane # of wins for their spot.
NYR: Win or Tie vs Pens to clinch #6
TBay: Can't drop below #7 due # of wins, needs to beat Atlanta and have NYR lose to Penguins to clinch #6

New Jersey Devils vs. #7 (Rangers/Lightning)
Devils vs. Lightning would be a fun battle of former champs, I guess. Rangers Devils has a mystique of its own but I wouldn't give them a chance at all vs NJ.

Ottawa Senators vs Pittsburgh Penguins
Both have clinched their spots. Can't favor Ottawa given their playoff history.
Ott: Win to clinch #4
Pit: Must Win vs. NYR and have Ott lose to Boston to clinch #4

Western Conference:
Detroit Redwings vs. #8 (Flames/Avalanche)
I hate the dives...and would prefer the Flames vs. Wings just for the battle of attrition. Am I wrong?
Cal: Must win vs. Edmonton or Colorado to clinch #8
Col: Must win vs. Nashville and Calgary, and Calgary must get 1 or fewer points in their last two games. (Col would clinch based on # of wins in an OTL scenario)

Anaheim/San Jose vs #7 (Wild/Canucks)
I'd prefer Ducks/Wild. I'm not sure who I would go for if I had to pick one of them. Anyway, Wild have a longshot at getting out of this series.
Ana: Need OTL or win vs. Columbus to clinch pacific division
SJ: Need win vs. Van and Anaheim loss to clinch pacific division
Van: Need 1 win or 2 points total in games vs. Phoenix and San Jose to clinch division
Min: Need win vs. STL and 0 points for Vancouver in last two games to clinch division

Vancouver/Minn vs #6 (Stars/Sharks)
What's our canuck fan census? Vs. Naboskala or Turdco? (Sorry Barrage, your team is more likeable when playing against colorado)

Nashville/San Jose vs. #5 (Sharks/Stars/Predators/Ducks)
Obscure series of events here, basically Sharks are the tiebreak killer.
SJ: Win vs. Van and Nashville loss to Colorado to clinch #4.
SJ: Win or OTL to guarantee at least 5th (51 wins!!)
Nas: Win vs. Colorado to clinch #4
Dal: Win vs. Chicago and San Jose loss to Vancouver to clinch #5
Ana: If Ducks lose division, they drop to 5th based on tie breaker vs Nashville

Here's to CBJ coming out looking to wreak Anaheim's plans.

Oh, and props to the Stars for keeping SJs hopes alive with 6 seconds left on the clock.

Could Saturday's game be Sundin's last as Leaf?

TORONTO -- Sift through the reams of rhetoric leading up to Saturday's win-or-go-home season finale between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, strip away the staggering notion that literally millions of dollars in playoff revenue hang in the balance and there is one sobering if little-discussed possibility: This might be captain Mats Sundin's last game as a Toronto Maple Leaf.

...

Thoughts?

Uh.. you seen Datsyuk in the playoffs?

Uh.. you seen Malkin in the playoffs?

:p

You can't really compare points without factoring in the fact that both play on teams with vastly different styles. For example, Datsyuk has a plus/minus of 37, whereas Malkin is +2.

So a guy who can score a lot, and demonstrate that he's a 2 way player, is more valuable than a guy who can score a lot but doesn't bother hustling back (not accusing Malkin of this, I haven't seen too many Pittsburgh games to be honest, I'm just making a general comparison, which could apply to this scenario).

Personally I'm not in the mood for player comparisons...I'm excited for the playoffs. I'd like to see Pittsburgh do well, and with all the young talent on the team, with some enforcers in the mix to protect the star players, reminds me of the old school Oilers.

Let it be repeated that I have no faith in Hasek. The Wings should have made a run for Markkenen. Give the Oilers another first round draft pick, they love those.

I will abstain from making any predictions for today's games...

The only thing I will predict is that Don Cherry will say something incredibly retarded

I can't stand how Cherry actually has fans who love how "he tells things straight!" and how he's "a real Canadian!" etc.

Anyway, bed time. Go Pens, go Bruins, Go Leafs, Go Isles.

I actually love the city of Toronto and love Torontonians... but I simply don't care for the Leafs. And screw the Islanders: the lower they fall, the higher our draft pick.

Spoken like a true Habs/Leafs fan (aka a ****ing moron).

As excited as I am for this game, the thought that the Islanders could end up pissing on both their parades makes me laugh quite hard inside. Beyond that, whoever finishes 8th is going to be destroyed by Buffalo. So really, what's the big ****ing deal?

That said, this is the most meaningful Leafs/Habs game since the blue shirts last won the cup (a statement that pretty much speaks for itself), so it's hard not to get buzzed about it. Just realize that regardless of the result, both teams will be sharing the links inside of a fortnight. :lol

As for issues regarding the salary cap, I gave warnings about the same shit during the lockout. It isn't nearly as fan-friendly as the owners made it out to be. It stands to reason that you can't afford to keep more than three high caliber players for more than four or five years, unless they agree to vastly reduced contracts (LOL) or ownership is full of ****ing idiots (see the Maple Leafs).

I hope so...let him join a team that can do better than squeaking into the playoffs with a bunch of has beens, to then get stuffed by a third rate goalie before the beginning of May. It's the least he deserves.

Way to go out on a limb...

I hope Konex gets into this thread in the next couple days to make some playoff predictions, just to read the sure to be hilarious reactions.

I was really beginning to miss your poisonous negativity, Shinobi. ;)

Promise us you won't be a stranger during the playoffs!

:lol Shinobi would be the best guy to watch a Leafs game with....

"Right now, the plan is that I'm going to play," Brodeur told The Star. "But (Toronto) can't rely on me beating the Islanders for (the Leafs) to get in the playoffs. If I think it's right not to play and that hurts Toronto, too bad."

:lol

Been to Toronto plenty, love it every time, but dayum I just can't get behind their hockey team. Nuthin' personal.

So hey, go Habs.

GO HABS GO
My place is going to be buzzing tonight, with the big game at the forefront followed by some poker leading into the early hours of the morning.

At last check, 5 leafers, 3 Hab fans, and about half a dozen girls who claim to be leaf fans. You know, the type that will lose interest 10 mins into the first and start yapping.

So this is it, I'll try to catch this thread at some point after the game, If I'm not to hammered to remember.

Good luck Leaf fans and may the best 8th place team win.
