Official NHL CBA Conclusion thread! HOSANNAH, BITCHES

Now that Hockey's back I'm doing some catch up on what's going on in the NHL...and this includes videogames! :)

Just some interesting things I found out...

NHL 06: Intended to play much like NHL 94, and from what I've seen it looks like it. Granted, this means that it's still not that realistic, but it should be fun...hopefully.

NHL 2K6: Bob Cole and Harry Neale are doing the commentating. I hope it turns out better than NHL 2K! :) Also, they plan to have legacy international teams as well...playing as the summit series teams would be sweet!

Are you sure the seven years arent retroactive?
"with the 2004-05 wiped-out season counting in the service time."
Why would the wiped season count as service time if it WASNT retroactive to current players?
This is according to Nick Kypreos because when the panel was talking about how with the seven years of service players automatically become an unrestricted free agent he flat out said that it wasn't retroactive. He said that was the reason why Chris Pronger is a restricted free agent even though he's been in the league for 11 seasons (not counting the locked out season) and his 31st birthday isn't until October so he would have to wait until next summer.

Pronger isnt a UFA because the 7 year rule doesnt come into effect till 2007-08. Nick Kypreos is a dummy.

I know that, when I say it isn't retroactive I meant for current players this year. I know that too. :D

I think the Oilers will do far better this year...their record during the last 30 games of last season was nearly flawless. Compare that to Calgary...which did about .500, am I right?
Incorrect. The Flames had 42 wins and 30 losses, good for 6th spot in the West which gave them a date with noted first round patsy Vancouver.

Plus, I don't see the Flames making the playoffs this year. They fluked it last year, as traditionally strong teams didn't make the playoffs. Nashville and the Flames will have to fight for it this year.
Also incorrect, as you can see above no team "flukes" to a 42 and 30 record.

Besides, it's pretty clear the Flames improve. DOUBLE DION Phaneuf bolsters a defence that could already be called young and brutally effective, Iggy wins yet another locker full of awards and uber-hottie Mrs. Petr Nedved decides to settle with hubby in a city more sophisticated and a few hours due south closer to LA than the arctic wasteland known as Deadmonton. Kipper dazzles again, Daryl Sutter trades for Dany Heatley and Heater scores the OT winner off a Iginla feed to win Game 4 - and the '05/'06 Cup - against an outclassed yet game Penguins team in the Cup Finals. Sadly for fans in Pittsburgh, the team responds poorly to the disappointment and moves to Winnipeg.

So much animosity in this thread... YEESH

I skimmed it. I've been in Italy and Greece for the last two weeks. Is there a deal yet or not? Going to be one soon? I miss Canadian newspapers for reasons like these.

Yes.. deal in principle done.
Players have to vote.
Press conf for thursday to announce the deal once the players vote.
Draft lottery also on thursday.
Draft on July 30th
Leafs doomed

That about covers it

Sadly for fans of Pittsburgh? Hellooooo that would be the best thing ever. (I guess not for fans of the Penguins IN Pittsburgh, but Pens fans in Winnipeg (me) rejoice)

I sure hope they REALLY crack down on the clutching and grabbing, I wonder how far the flames would have made it if they called it all...INTERESTING POINT TO PONDER.

Calder already trying to pick a fight, heh.

I have it on good authority that there are a few better behaved Flames fans out there. Except at the Krispy Kreme. Those guys have some bad blood with the moogle. :lol

Like Gretzky was burried in Edmonton? Like Lemieux was burried in Pittsburgh?

Gretzky was one of the greatest athletes of all time and would've been a hit if he played in the north pole. But Lemieux, yeah. He's only legendary among hockey fans, not the general public. Some of that is because of Pittsburgh, and some of that is just 'cause he's one sour, whiny and unlikeable mother.

Lemieux is only legendary among hockey fans? Im pretty sure everyone knows of Mario Lemieux. Even people who have never watched a hockey game.

Well, considering Iginla probably would have had 90 goals in the first round if no-tal Ohlund hadn't been allowed to ride him bareback for 7 games we can rest assured the Flames would have been safely through to face the Wings.

I will admit that in game 5 and 6 of the Finals you could maybe say that perhaps Commodore and Montador were a wee bit gassed and slightly obstructed some of the Lightning players. ;) I remember one sequence in game 5 I think it was when the Flames had their 5 & 6 D and their checkers stuck on the ice and the Bolts snuck Richards and St. Louis onto during a bad Flames clear. It was like a damn rodeo inside of 10 seconds, you could have called about a dozen obstruction calls. :lol

A Flames fan (for now?) accusing OHLUND of clutching and grabbing during the first round playoff series? That's fucking classic.

pr_dax_600_baby-carry.jpg

I'm pretty sure our first line forwards were wearing those fuckers for at least half of the series. You can berate Cloutier for getting hurt or our defense in general for allowing that comeback in Game 6, but accusing a Canuck of clutching and grabbing in that series is fucking laughable.

As for dem talking shit, you know things are bad when an Oilers fan has to pretend he's an Anaheim Mighty Ducks supporter in order to insult the Canucks (thanks to the Canucks being better than the Oilers in every single department last time they were on the ice :D).

Actually, I hope Anaheim does well this year (barring any games against God's Team Of Destiny) - I've got a lot of respect for Brian Burke and what he was able to accomplish here. Plus his sound bites are the absolute best in the biz - that slam on Babcock the other day was him just warming up. :D

It's going to be a great year. Hell, my food even tastes better now that hockey's back!

Speaking of the Ducks.....I really hope the Leafs sign Kariya :D

*dodges bottles thrown by every non Leaf fan*

Leaf fan or not, this offseason (1.5 months that is!) should be crazy fun. We're going to be losing Nolan (alright) Mogilny ( :( ) and plenty more vets.....It'll be a different NHL in only a few months, and it'll be worth watching whether the non hockey towns tune in or not.

What kind of HD options do we have here in Canada for hockey? I know Shaw just got Sportsnet HD but will it be regional HD? I will bite the bullet if I get my NFL and NHL in HD.

We might lose Nolan, but what makes you think we'll lose Mogilny? Also, what site has a 1/2 off Sundin Jersey???

I had read two articles in two different papers saying Mogilny will be a cap casualty. I hope they're wrong. As for the jerseys...it was a place downtown selling them, not a website.

Damn! I live in Cincinnati and can't make it to what I assume is downtown Toronto. I really hope Mogilny isn't a casualty. He's my favorite player next to Sundin, I even named my cat after him. Of course, I'll have to kill my cat should Mogilny go to Philly. I just can't have that....There will be no Flyers' pets in my home!

I bought a vintage Gretzky Oilers jersey for 150 bucks in December :D

And whats this I hear that O'Niell, Niedermyer and Naslund may be Leafs

Is this the usual BS stuff that us leaf fans always hear about?

And this thread represents months of repressed hockey emotions getting let out :p

Usual BS? Don't you mean usual LEAF NATION rational?

*everyone before and after the new CBA*

"Man, the Leafs are going to get hit hard when the new CBA hits"

*LEAF NATION MENTALITY before and after the new CBA*

"I know! We'll just sign Naslund, O'Niell, and Niedermeyer all under the new CBA structure. We'll retain Belfour, Mogilny, Sundin, McCabe, and Leetch, and then just before the playoffs we'll sign Brodeur, Forsberg, Heatley, Scotty Bowman, Maneua Rheame, that wrestler that only had one leg, Gump Worsley, Tim Horton, MVP: Most Valuable Primeape, Happy Gilmore, and Wayne Gretzky. HELLO YOUNGE STREET IN JULY!!! LEAF NATION!"

It looks like there's already plenty of Oilers support, but you can add my name as well

Man, you don't really notice how much you need something until it's gone. I swear I'm going to watch every hockey game from now on even if my favorite teams aren't playing.

I can hardly wait for the new season -- it's going to be awesome

They still haven't addressed a lot of the problems with the NHL. And these new rule changes are really stupid.

1. Teams with shitty players are going to play defensively and essentially find a new way to trap or beatup good players

2. 3v3 OT then a shoot out. WTF. You can't fundamentally change the structure of the game because Network America tells you to.

3. Sidney Crosby is going to a major market team guaranteed. There is some backdoor handshake deal already in place.

4. The goalies are still too good. Have you ever seen a Gretzky or a Howe highlight reel. Those goalies were mostly standing there watching the puck go by. All of these butterfly style goalies go down and stop shots.

5. You are getting the same referees who don't have the balls to call penalties in the last 10 minutes of a game or overtime.

INSIDER INFO:

All 48 pingpong balls will have ranger logos on them.

new-look NHL has me rethinking my boycott.
It will be the same as it always is. Everything called for a month. Then by the time the playoffs hit, nothing is illegal. Unless the rules are enforced, it's gonna be the same, which was the problem in the first place.

So...you're telling me that during the last 30 games of the season, Calgary had 42 wins and 30 losses...am I right?

Heh, Calder (I originally typed "Calder" as "Calgary":)), read it again :)

Also incorrect, as you can see above no team "flukes" to a 42 and 30 record.

Do you admit that a good 3 or 4 Western Conference teams were unusually weak last season?

Besides, it's pretty clear the Flames improve. The latter part has more plausability than the first sentence of this paragraph. :)

Definitely a valid concern. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Going out but I just wanna chime in with an "I hate the Leafs" comment. The team is just as annoying as its fans...not all of them, but the beer swiggin' type who think that The Sun is a good paper.

No you misunderstood, unlike the rest of Canadians who can't enter a thread like this without making a comment about Toronto or the Leafs, we don't think about the rest of you at all. :P

I was actually replying to someone from Toronto talking about something from Toronto, which just has to be the oddest coincidence I've ever seen.

But I'm sorry, you guys are grumpy because you're going to tank under the new CBA, I'll leave you be :)

I've already outlined two very simple ways to get around the CBA and we all know that they'll be used. :D

shit I'm finding all my favourite old hockey pics. This one will please everyone except the 2 wretched Wings fans too scared to post! :)

I think Kabuki or Dopey actually made the pic better by using the Disney font, but I can't find that version. Shame that everyone had to start hating the boring-ass Ducks by the end of their run, because watching Giguere tune the Red Wings was just fantastic.

Why must you reopen old wounds? I suppose as payback I should hunt down some pics of the Wings decimating your crappy Jets in their last game before they were shipped off to die in the desert, but wtf would that accomplish? About as much as trading Kris Draper for a dollar I guess.

As far as next season goes, I eagerly anticipate your inevitable "oh well fuck the flames lets go sens" post the second the playoffs start after the Flames dazzle us all by following up their bullshit fluke no cup run with a spectacular season consisting of:
-signing Iginla to a massive deal which will keep their cheap ass ownership from participating in the ufa frenzy
-trading Iginla to the Flyers in Feburary for a 9th round pick after plummeting in the standings and getting their asses handed to them 6-0 by the Canucks every Saturday night

atleast the leafs have won championships. I cant believe how bitter vancouver ppl are. Where does the hate stem from?

Listen i personaly apologize for Potvin ok?

Damn, that must have been tough for a Wings fan to post - you not only had to know the name of one other player on another team but to complete your attempted burn you then had to remember the name two different NHL teams! Bravo Wings fan! :)

Remember that goal? :D

Don't worry about the hate....Take it in stride and have fun with it like me :D In the MLB and NBA, Toronto are underdogs...in the NHL we actually get to play the heel. It's a fresh change.

So basically I'm a retard for liking a team that actually plays in my town, fantastic then.

You're going to need to relax if you want to make it through the regular season. ;) Don't take the shit talking personally, it's just your team I hate. The teasing is done with love... just look at dem and Mike Works, they're practically making out by the end of the preseason.
