Sullivan for Lemieux would have been insulting, and I wouldn't have offered that. We could have worked out a package or something. Thats fine though... you could have used an upgrade of your goalies with Conklin, Father Time and some swedish dude whose name no one can pronounce. :)

Hey now... If father time can stay healthy he is gold. Sens are stacked.
As far as Niittymaki ... im just acting on a hunch. He'll be the starter by the end of the season :) And a starter on the Flyers is a starter I want.

Keep ya head up, yo
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Devils defenceman Scott Stevens announced his retirement after more than two decades in the NHL on Tuesday, saying a year off showed him that he could live without hockey.

"I think the game is more mental than physical. You have to be in tremendous shape, but you have to want to do it in your head," the 41-year-old Stevens said. "At this point in my career I didn't think I could put the mental parts there every day, and that's a big part of playing this game."

General manager Lou Lamoriello said Stevens, a 13-time all-star who has played more NHL games than any other defenceman during his 22 seasons, has "been an integral part of all the success we've had."

"He's been a leader on and off the ice as a hockey player and a person. He feels he's accomplished a lot of things and now wants to devote a lot of time to his family," Lamoriello said.

He added that Stevens will stay with the organization in some capacity.

"I've said all along that the door has been open for Scott to make the decision that's right for him," Lamoriello said. "We would have welcomed him back and wouldn't have thought twice about it. He didn't want it to be a distraction during training camp."

True about the old timer... ( I shouldn't talk, I got brett hull on my team)

Just make sure not to play the swedish rook against the pens 8 times a year and thing should be okay. :D

I got a feeling that just the Recchin Ball and Leclair are going to make things really tough on Philly when they play against their former team.

I see you got Hasek's backup as well... If you have room or are not satisfied with Emery, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up J.S. Aubin at some point in time. If Belfour goes out, I see Aubin playing really well for the Leafs. He played pretty damn well against all the firing squads the pens faced in 2004, and just was in a system that was clogged with 3 good goaltending prospects already (including the franchise clinging to MA-Fleury the whole year on publicity. So he was giving his walking papers, and not really a fair shot in Pittsburgh.

He is the one player that we let go that I think will have a decent impact with another team, much like Naslund and Lalime did.

eklund says perreault is in discussions with the leafs yay. all we need is ANOTHER center :lol

Yanic Perreault is reportedly in heavy discussions with the Maple Leafs, (e3) Yanic is a talented guy who has been the #1 face-off guy in the last three years.

*3E* Rumor- This comes from someone very close to the rumor. Someone who would have knowledge. Someone from a team involved, A player who is close to a player involved, etc. These people are not the actual player or GM or Coach.

Wtf....We have three elite centers and a young gun in Stajan. No way this happens.....Yannic was good for us and an amazing faceoff man, but we do not need enough center. This has to be BS.

:lol @ Mike Milbury. How the hell was this guy ever a GM and how is he still one?:

"One restricted free agent who appears close to signing, according to sources, is New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro. He's set to sign a short-term deal in the next day or so, sources said.

That wasn't the original plan. Sources confirm GM Mike Milbury had toyed with the idea of a shocking $60-million, 15-year contract for the 23-year-old goalie - a deal worth $4 million a season - but the concept, which was well received by the DiPietro camp, was dropped mainly because of insurance issues. Milbury has been down this road before, signing centre Alexei Yashin to a $90-million, 10-year deal."

Defenceman Bryan Marchment, 36, would like to return to Toronto.

"I'm hopeful that Toronto will recognize their need to fill a certain dimension on their team and they'll be able to sign him," his agent Rick Curran said Tuesday.

:lol :lol :lol

I wish we had some Wings fans on the board right about now
Sa-X

Thank god Hejduk took a low offer. Hopefullt Tanguay deos to. I know Sakic and Blake are pretty much ready to drop their values too.

The cba doesn't let people with existing contracts renegotiate. So they have to wait until their contracts are up. Both Blake and Sakic have said they'll drop from what they're making now(6.6 or so).

I wonder what Milbury is thinkling with a contract longer than 5 years. Seems nuts to me to sign anyone longer than that. Let alone what I would consider to be an unknown quantity in DiPietro.

elite centers? tell me you dont mean lindros. Yanic would be a godsend for us imo.

Perreault could play on wing, he did with the Habs in the playoffs and did alright. Then if one of Lindros or Allison are injured, he could take his center position.

Would actually be a good idea for the Leafs if they can get him for cheap.

Maybe Lindros isn't the best faceoff man, but I was simply talking about players that play center. He said he wanted to be at center but I suppose moving him to the wing and having Yanic center the line is an option.....although I'm a fan of the Antropov/Lindros/X line.

Kingpen... i DEMAND you trade Smyth to someone else so I can make a deal with them.

YOU ARE UNREASONABLE!! :lol

Guess he didnt want to play in a post-apocalyptic NHL (aka salary cap)
It's the cap's fault he's almost 38 years old and pretty much a third line player at this point in his career?

Yes. It is also the salary cap's fault that New-Orleans got hit by a hurricane and that Lincoln and Kennedy got shot. /Damphousse state of mind

Shit dude, I thought Belfour was like your guys Holy Ghost up there in Canada... I actually was getting nervous that by giving him up, I was sabotaging my chances for a well rounded team to win the league. I was fearing the possibility of having to rely on Godzilla and the Crapitals offense to get me 10 wins on the season.

Is there a certain night that you like to get tanked? Perhaps if I keep sending that R. Smyth for Z. Pallfy trade, you'll accidently hit the accept button. You don't like Brett Hull or N. Ekman do you? :)

Did anyone bother setting up a sportingnews gaf league? If not... i did :D

league: gafhockey
pw: smyth

I might like the sportingnews fantasy hockey better than yahoo. I like watching my franchise value grow! =P

Are you setting this league up so you can assure youself that you can buy Ryan Smyth on your team? Am I strong arming you too much in yahoo? =)

Keep making offers to me for him.... :lol They are getting through a boring programming training I have here at work.

I would join, but I much prefer the yahoo style of leagues.... Plus I am already in 3 leagues already.

Try another offer with one of your pens for me. Hamerlik just makes me have to drop one of my d-men that is comperable to him to make room. He isn't that much of an upgrade for me.

I sent you another offer with Smyth inside.. :D

After all this foreplay, you two better get a deal for Smyth done before the season starts or you'll both be deeply shamed by your inability to finish. :lol

I'd offer for Ryan Smyth, but I frankly like all my LW a wee bit better than him anyway. I think all 3 of my LW have some good value, and after a couple of weeks I'll entertain offers for Prospal or Frolov once demand for the position hopefully increases. I think Doan will be one of the top LW around this year as long as the Coyotes improve at least a bit to drag his +/- towards respectability.

I dig the sporting news stuff. A few years back I won Nhl 2002, from them. I was doing really good in fantasy hockey.

Dem: Change that password

it's actually smyth-not capital

I love how they included Alfredsson getting away with shit against the Leafs :S

Walkom sounds like he's the desk sergeant in a '70s cop movie. :lol "This season there will be a new standard of enforcement for all the cops in the precinct to follow!"

Interesting video. I like how they showed examples of skilled guys using hooks and holds to generate offense, not just slow dmen grabbing forwards.

Can anyone find a downloadable link in that? I'd love to save the video to disk...

EDIT: I fully support the crosschecks the Flyers were feeding Darcy Tucker. Any rule changes that will prevent Tucker from getting cross checked will not have my support!

Cox isn't a retard, but I do get the feeling that he doesn't really like hockey and actively hates the Leafs. Kinda strange considering the job he has, but then I get the sneaky feeling a fair number of sports reporters grow to dislike the sport they follow.

As far as your point b), allow me to chuckle. The Leafs are an open-ended team in that they are terrible defensively, but don't pretend that they don't hook, hold and obstruct (and goon) it up as much or more than any other team. They take a zillion penalties as it is, and this sure won't help them.

Hopefully they will give penalities all season long and not just the first few weeks like they did so often in the past.

It's been well documented that Cox is an avid Leaf basher and takes each and every opportunity to dump all over the team.

With respect to the hooking and holding penalties, Leafs are in the same boat as alot of teams in that the defenceman will have to learn what they can and can't do. What the Leafs WON'T be needing to adjust to is the neutral zone trap bullshit hooking and holding that teams like Ottawa and Jersey have perfected over the last 10 years. Those teams are in for a rude awakening.
