There are loads of topics regarding the game itself as well as reviews. It was JUST released today in the US (after shipping yesterday) and I'd imagine most people who will buy it are either at work or school. Patience.

Go read some of the Japanese impressions if you must. :p

Discussing this packaging issue is akin to standing around talking about random BS before a major movie premiere. You're there for the movie, but you have to kill time before hand. Most people discussing the packaging probably could not be playing the game right now even if they wanted to.

The Gamestop near me is getting it in today, probably not until 1pm so unless you are going to fast forward time you can kindly go to the start of the thread.

See my post further up the page for a few comments. Bottom-line, I'm really enjoying it. It isn't anything new - no revolutionary or even evolutionary steps forward for the genre but what it does, it does well, and, combined with an excellent story and great voice-acting, that's enough for me.

I'm going to go try and find it around 1. Right now the online stock of both gamestop and best buy around me say unavailable.

Man I just want today to be over so I can go get my copy. The game just came out today so expect tons more impressions from people on here. As for now all we can talk about for the most part is the case. :p

Me beef is that, unless you bought Blue Dragon, (which I'm sure most people on the gaf didn't) my discs had scratches, and dings, etc in it due to the stacking of the game disc... Just piss poor quality design.

But yeah, I'm really ready for this. Been craving a turn based rpg for a long time. I'm curious to see how many people have problems with the first two bosses since most say they have the hardest time with them. :D

I'm at the second boss and though it got me the first time, I wasn't really prepped for it. Now I know what it's about and I think I'll be able to beat it down when we meet again.

I am playing the opening sequence right now and this game is amazing. So far I think it's the best unreal engine game, no texture pop in's yet...

I love the seamless transition from cg to battles:D

Visually, there isn't any texture popin and that's probably to do with the load times. The game looks excellent, but it does still suffer from a bit of framereate slowdown occassionally.

Fuck me, no one in my area is getting it today due to the storm. I'm going to check Toys R Us in a few. The price I pay for moving to New Hampshire.

I might go out and buy this. I'm not a big fan of JRPGs, but I want to try either this one or Eternal Sonata (I enjoyed that demo.)

The packaging is certainly off putting though :\

Commercial was great :D

? The loading time gripes are overblown
? Combat is solid but nothing new other than the rings mechanic

In the grand scheme of things, the good vastly outweighs the few gripes I have at this point. This is definitely what I'd been looking for.

Yes... for about 30 seconds until you put the disc in and start playing the game. I find it funny that the thread about the packaging is more popular than the thread about the actual game. Of course, this is GAF so maybe I'm not all that surprised...

advertising is pretty good for this. Received an email about it, am seeing it on a lot of sites (ads) and keep seeing the tv commercial.

Assuming you're referring to the rings... it's fairly easy to do, you just hold the trigger down until an outer ring closes over and matches an inner ring, then let go. It's not difficult. I don't have the timing totally nailed down but I did get three perfects in a row to unlock an achievement. :D

I think this would qualify. It's turn-based so you can take your time figuring things out, the system isn't very complicated, and they have tutorials that pop up the first time you encounter a new mechanic.

good luck..but i doubt you will need it. visit any gamestop/EB and im sure you will land yourself a copy.

the game is GREAT btw, IMO its everything i have been jones'n for since ff7 but with up to date graphics.

Just got back from Gamestop. The packaging is as horrid and revolting as you've all heard. I can't even look at the disks when I open the case for fear of going blind with disgust.

Not really. The 4th disk can sit on top of the other 3, but if falls of if you tilt the case slightly :(

What does the code do? I redeemed it already, is it just put in the game somewhere?

Yea my store didn't even know about it and had to check and waste 20min of my life to come up with nothing. Lady said "it must be this disc in the sleeve".

Nope, you get 125 points for each disc, so 500 for just beating the game and not doing any side stuff. The rest come from beating the optional bosses, teaching all abilities to each character, and some story and battle ones too.

I picked up a nonreserved copy at GS three hours ago, which means I've played 3 hours. Color me impressed. I expected it to start slow like BD, but that is not the case. I'm really enjoying the pace of the story, as well as the characters. So far haven't had any problems with loading, there were some minor tech problems, but nothing to complain about at all. The music is fucking fantastic, screw the haters.

Picked up my copy as well, along with the strategy guide. I hate MS for screwing us with shitty packaging, but I can't wait to get home and start playing it!

EDIT: Full color manual, which is nice at least.

I'm not completely sold on the game yet, but the positive impressions in this thread are making me feel better. GameFly just shipped the game out, so I should be getting it on Friday. My weekend is booked. :D

Okay, I got tired of waiting for my copy from P-A (STILL hasn't arrived) and started playing some Mass Effect which I only got 2 hours into. I've never really been into Western RPGs but Erect seems like it'll be a great time killer though the story, setting and characters (my biggest gripes about wRPGs) aren't really my cup of tea.

Similar luck here. Two Gamestops, a Wal Mart and a Hastings later and I still couldn't find it. Both GSs said they didn't expect their shipments til somtime tomorrow afternoon. WTF!?
