I just finished 45 minutes of playing, so far I like it. It is a very "safe" game. The gameplay, battle gui, menu gui is all straight from Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy games. It doesn't bother me since I already like it obviously. :D

Yeah I actually wish modern FF titles kept that minimalistic menu style.

I f'ing pre-order from Gamestop but because I have a job and can't pick the game up until 5:20 they didn't have any more of the pre-order quest/item things. What bullshit. Who can I call to piss and moan about their not getting enough?

Incidently, I don't suppose there is just one generic code that everyone can use for the bonus is there?

I wish. There was another guy who had some codes earlier in the topic. I preordered but they didnt give me one either. Luckly I got one before they ran out.

EDIT: His name was purg3. Dunno if he recieved anymore yet though.

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
So...thinking about getting this game. General consensus is that it is a solid RPG but doesn't take any risks. For reference my favorite RPGs are FFVI(III), FFVII, FFVIII, and DQVIII.

Would I like this?

just got home with it! FMV was a little grainy but when it turn to realtime it was semaless you could hardly tell!

I like the simple battle system.

Game reviews are usually harsh on Jrpgs now days and this seems like its going to be a very enjoyable one to me.

Two hours in with three or four memories unlocked (how many are there total? achievement for unlocking all of them?), impressions so far:
-Really good, yet sometimes inconsistent graphics.
-Kaim / Scott Stapp runs like a pussy.
-Battle system is refreshingly simple and mostly gorgeous, trigger setup works well.
-Memories are awesome, a bit too many too quickly though?
-Loading isn't as bad as reported on the 1UP Show, at all.
-I like the menus, remind me somehow of FFVIII.

Good times. I see myself playing this late into the night.

Yes you should. Its kinda giving me a FFVII vibe, especially from the way the game's title/credit sequence came on.

May not take any risks gameplay wise, but using the Unreal 3 engine for an RPG was certainly risky i'd say.

Got it! (and the preorder bonus).

I'm kind of in the middle of WA5 and Mass Effect, but I really want to play this *NOW*. Decisions, decisions....

I got an good hour into the game -- is anyone else getting that FF X vibe from it? I hope Kaim doesn't have anything like that Tidus Yuna laughing scene. :D

Also, did Ben Stiller voice Jansen? Sounds like Starsky.

I'm gonna get this game once my firned pays me the 35 bucks he owes me. I grabbed Culdcept Saga with the first 40 dollar payment.lol

Hopefully, everyone posting in this thread gives Culdcept Saga a look after they are finished with LO. LO may very well overshadow everything other than DMC 4 this month on the 360.

Doubt it, Kaim seems to serious (in a natural way, not OVER serious) for anything like that to happen. Im getting more of a FFVII vibe from it. I dunno if its the music, environments, the whole Magic/Industrialness or what.

Yes.

Also throwing it out there that the first boss is outstandingly unfair.

Looking forward to it. Im already kinda thinking what people would use certain skills to the most of their abilities.

The balance is really off until you get your fourth party member. Jansen has to take the role of healer, but without his magical attacks you don't get anywhere. Just buy lots of flare bombs to make up for it.

Ridiculously unfair. On my third attempt.

How do you get over him? I tried playing defensively after my first general attempt, and then my third try I just wailed on it as hard as I could.

Which boss are you talking about? The Worm? If so read the previous page.

So where is the second dream sequence story thing? I'm about to leave Uhra for the first time, after getting
Seth and Jensen
and I have the first and third one, and a blank space for the second.

Have I passed it up already?

So, I put in my pre-order bonus code.....what exactly did this do for me???

You should have a Skill item called weapon Defender 2 that you can equip as soon as you start the game. The other item you get later in the game by visiting some place dont remember the name, im only a bit over an hour in the game.

OK I think I'm going to get this but I have a question:

How do you lose if Kaim is immortal? No spoilers please.
The same way you lose in nearly all JRPGs: your whole party dies.

(The concept of immortality isn't integrated as nicely into the gameplay as in, say, Planescape: Torment)

I had to go back to the town to restock on supplies. Don't bother with physical attacks, it's got way too much health. Spam him with items.
Keeping Jansen alive is a priority, since his magic does decent damage. Make sure to have a few Angel Plumes to revive him. Immortals resurrect themselves after a few turns, so don't waste them on Kaim or Seth.
Oh, and hope the boss doesn't use its special attack too often. I got lucky with that.

At the beginning of the game when i was fighting the mech machine i got revived everytime i died. So im guessing if you are alone with no party you cant die?

This is so fucking stupid. Nevermind the fact that the checkpoint only saves your progress from the first time you pass it, so if you lose and resurrect at a checkpoint you have to go back and re-level your characters.

I guess I'm going back into town.

Check your Items. You got a special accessory (Not ring, accessory). Also I guess the extra dream (thats what we got right?) is only accessible from the main menu? Not sure...unless you got a valuable and not a dream.

Yep thats it, i forgot what the other one is though.

Yeah im clueless on that one. Then again I was only able to play until you
get the offer from Gongora to leave with Jansen to Great Staff. Damn microeconomics homework

EDIT: Still getting familiar with non-main character names.

How does this stack up to Blue Dragon or Eternal Sonata? I played through E.S and liked it, but never picked up B.D. Kinda interested in this, just want an RPG with a combat system that kicks ass - Grandia 2 being one of the best I've experienced.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I just noticed something funny,
Kain starts to cry after his first dream, but when he starts to cry his head is facing almost upside down as he hunches over, the tear goes straight up his face, :lol
This game is fucking sweet so far btw, load times are a non issue so far.

Wow, just got past the first dream/memory sequence......good shit right there gentlemen.

Couldn't agree more. I knew nothing about this game going in, so that first dream sequence took me by surprise. Very nice indeed.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I made it to the station already and saved. I am not all over this game like Halo, but I am liking it so far. I am pretty sure it will grow on me. Also, WTF @ the loading times? They are good, many ppl here must have busted DVD drives on their 360s. I have the Halo 3 360 and no loading time so far has gone past 5 seconds.

Agreed, the loading isn't any worse then any other game I've ever played. I've had no problems so far with it.

Was the first boss
the flying wurm on the top of the mountain
really that hard? I remember it being a challenge, but I beat it on my first try. I actually died a few times on the second boss
the worm-beast that powers up by sucking in his minions that he can re-summon
, but the first one didn't give me too many problems.
