Ok, finally finished this steaming pile of JRPG.

Definately won't be doing the missing achievements worth some 250 points. Unless somebody pays me. Big time.

Shame, I really enjoyed most of the optional boss fights.

Different strokes, I guess.

for a steaming pile of JRPG you still finished. must have been somewhat good then, eh?

It wasn't all bad. It was just that characters were horrible, story indifferent and battle mediocre, sometimes broken (amongst other things). What I did like was music, but in the end there were only like three memorable themes (main theme, emotional theme and battle theme). The no-grind mechanics was kinda neat too.

Oh and dungeons sucked too.

This game made me miss a game with a good overworld map :(

I recently picked it back up after a couple month hiatus. I made it to disc 4 and have just been skill grinding in Gongora's cave, and getting ready to do the side quest bosses. I was surprised how easily I was able to get back into it, although I completely forgot about ring creation. I was using some pretty weak stuff. I should hopefully have this finished up now before Tales and IU.

Just picked up the game this week, reached Grand staff recently. Going throigh Ipsilon Mountains again to grind a bit, as the random encounters in this game can mean different people can have different number of encounters in an area.

I do have a question regarding the Ring System, I got the Adamantis ring from the Pipot, now since it restores MP, it would be great for Jansen, but Magic users don't use the Ring system for their spells, so do we ever get Rings that are useful for Magic Users?

Apart from that, the dreams till now have been amazing. The words, the use of sound and music during them is just too good. Nice graphics (although I don't like the character looks/armor that much). Time to head to the Sea of Baus!!

Well, rings are only for normal attacks, so they're not that useful for spellcasters. MP-stealing aren't great for Jansen because it's proportional to the damage you do. I personally don't equip any rings for my spellcasters, but it could be useful sometimes (in a turn where you don't want them to cast a spell, for example) to equip a status-affecting ring to one of them, since it's not damage-related.

I love the dreams. Absolute highlight of the game, and personally the best bits of storytelling in any JRPG for me.

I'm at disc 4. Finished a few of the sidequests (I didn't do the more lengthy ones), and aboard to head to what seems to be the final dungeon. Great game.

Does anyone know how to defeat the final boss of the Backyard?

It seems like it's impossible. Does anyone have any 100% working strategies. Reflect didn't seem to work AT ALL.

Past the 2nd boss in White Boa now.

Well, the 2nd boss was fucking tough, harder than the 1st one for me. I never expected the first two boss battles to be this hard (especially after playing BD lol).

Fun times though.

Guess what I started playing again...!

I'm in the Temple Of Enlightenment? Grinding up all my mortal's skills? And learning them?

Absorb Fire is like the best skill ever in this fucking shithole. I fucking love it and the fucking enemies are like "HA HA! YOU GUYS ARE SO --" DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO DOOOO DOOOOOOO *level up!* *level up!* *level up!* *level up!* *level up!* *Ming has learned All Hit* *Kaim has learned All Hit* *Sarah has learned All Hit* *Seth has learned All Hit*

That's about the most accurate depiction of ToE that I've heard. :lol

That's exactly how it went down for me. Never did finish it though....just grinding.

Never beat him. Have you checked online guides?

ToE, Backyard and the DLC are the three things I have left to do in the game. Well, that, and the Skill Master achievements for the Immortals.

I haven't touched the game for weeks now. Got my ass kicked badly by like the first or second boss (up on a mountain ridge, when you've just left the city). I mean come on -- I have hardly played yet and already I'm having trouble. The boss can do this attack which hits everyone and makes a lot of damage.

The first few bosses are the hardest.

Playing through LO for the first time here as well. Just hit the World Map for the first time on Disc 2 with my new mode of transport.

As with most everyone, I'm digging the Dreams above and beyond everyone else. I really enjoy the cut-scene direction (simulating actual camerawork in these things is pretty unique). The dub is solid (but not dazzling). It helps that I'm a big Kath Soucie fan... otherwise, I'm sure the Cooke and Mack scenes would be more grating. I'm also warming up to the character designs. Soundtrack is awesome.

Unfortunately, I'm hating on the level & town design. I miss the sense of actual exploration that comes so naturally in games like Final Fantasy XII and Blue Dragon. I feel detached from these locales moreso than almost any RPG I've played since the PS1.

The skill progression system is rather bland. Seth & Kaim are practically identical in skills. The mortals are somewhat varied magic users with little in the way of customization apart from their bracelets. The NPCs are terribly generic and lack individual personality. The battles feel more like slugfests than anything in the way of strategic battles, although I like the level growth CAP employment to keep the challenge balanced.

More than anything, though... playing the game feels like a chore. I'm hoping the sidequests will open up the gameplay variety somewhat, but for now I'm regretting taking time away from FFXII and Persona 3 for this.

I was gonna get and play this, but the crush of RPGs will push it to next year probably..

I wanted to wait for a price drop anyway.

I lost on the first 3 bosses an didn't lose another fight until the very end of the game.

Those first 3 fights are basically determined by luck.

I'm very excited for the coming throng, but they are certainly far from the classic traditional JRPG experience offered by LO and BD. Infinite Undiscovery seems like more of a Tales type battle system, far from the comforting shores of a menu based system.

I bought LO brand new off ebay for $26 about a month ago. I'm currently on disc 3 and I don't think I'll know my true opinion of it until the end. A lot of times I feel like I don't like the game, yet I still want to continue. Here's some of my random, recurring thoughts:

I like the accessory characters, but then again
I love Chrono Cross in part for it's massive amount of playable characters
. I don't like Jansen. He's not funny. And Gongora is a shitty, funny looking bad guy. And the graphics until disc 3 were surprisingly ugly, IMO. Really weak use of the Unreal engine, but I'm sure they'd be able to do way more now that they're more accustomed to it. I do love the ring creation and the hit ring system. The spells are really unspectacular. Why does every RPG have a fucking sewer? The plot is very un-traditional for a JRPG, which I appreciate, even if it is weak overall. The Dreams things are cool, but I've read like 4 of them. They take FOR-EV-ER to finish, zzzzz....oh yeah, and WTF @
Sheena Easton
?

I'll be getting Blue Dragon next if I find it at discount, because I'm obsessed with searching/kicking for every item in the game and I hear BD has a ton of that.

I personally liked the LO plot a lot more than BD. But yea, if you like lots and lots of checking things for items, BD is for you. Lots of random battles to fight too. The problem I had in BD was doing that, I had soo much gold and had outleveled the areas by quite a bit, so even the boss fights were a joke.

As for the dreams, you have to read the dreams when they are unlocked. Its worth it. The Alex and Manya one (I especially liked) and also one in which
Kaim goes back to a town and actually meets someone who was still alive the last time he was there.

So I've finished off about half of the optional bosses now, and I'm a bit disappointed by them since they have yet to offer any real challenge. Do they get any tougher? Also went back and got all of the royal seals, invisible chests, and most of the treasure hunts.

How much SP do you normally get from enemies in the Temple of Enlightenment with the double SP skill? I still haven't gotten there yet, but I was curious for skill grinding purposes. Right now I'm using Gongora's cave for skill grinding at about 10SP per.

johnsmith

remember me
If you got all the royal seals and invisible chests, no the optional bosses aren't hard. Being immune to elemental attacks and status effects does that.

As for SP in the temple of enlightenment, it's about in the 6-15 range. If all you care about is SP, grinding in a low level place is probably best, as you can get 10 sp even in the crimson forest. But the temple of enlightenment is just awesome xp though.

God dude, seriously, do not step in that temple without a walkthrough. It took me NINETY MINUTES to get out AFTER THE BOSS FIGHT because I futzed around with all the levers before looking at a guide.

Well, I finally finished LO last night and I have to say that was one of the better RPG's I've played in a long time. The only shortcomings the game has (IMO) are some technical issues that didn't bother me as much as I thought they would. Here's hoping they can iron some of the technical stuff out before the next game is released.

So far Mistwalker is 2 for 2 for me.

The obligatory "optional but totally fucking ass kicking" boss is a long, hard battle if you don't do things right >_>

I hear the DLC boss is fecking hard too.

The optional "achievement" bosses aren't so bad, bar Persona - had a lot of trouble defeating her.

The toughest fights in the game are probably: DLC boss (I've heard), backyard final fight and ToE boss.

Just watched some YouTube videos of the DLC boss, and that looks tough as hell, guy even had all of his characters maxed out.

I didn't find Persona too tough, beat it on my first try. Although I definitely got lucky on my final turn. I would have been wiped out if it switched.

I was disappointed by the DLC dungeon. 25 tiny, almost identical floors and a ridiculous end boss with no save points beforehand. It took me about 3 hours to wind my way down the dungeon (probably could go a lot faster if you ran from fights and ignored reading the researchers' notes) to wipe at a boss that has
a move that can kill your entire party in one turn with no way that I can see to avoid it (unless Reflect works on Annihilate).
So it's pure luck. There's a couple of nice rings and accessories you can pick up on the way, but otherwise I'd recommend avoiding the DLC dungeon. Waste of time.

I just got to disc 4, hit an underwater current and the game froze. Now I get the "please place this disc in an xbox360 console" message every time I try to play. The disc isn't dirty, smudged or anything. Game over.

LTTP on this one and I'm quite liking it so far. Last JRPGs I've played are World Ends With You and FF12 so this is definitely a step in the more traditional direction.

I'm still very early on but I just want to say THANK GOD for these features
- inverted camera options
- A/B button swap options
- language options (the English voices are hilariously bad :lol)
- a run button
- chatting with NPCs doesn't lock you in place. After playing Mass Effect and now this it's definitely hard to go back
- A return from last checkpoint option rather then game over load your last save
- Pausable/Skippable cutscenes (which is common these days and yet is somehow missing in GTA4?!)

This shit needs to be standard!

So I've been playing this game on and off since launch, and I finally finished it tonight. I ended up skipping the Backyard stuff and the ToE(just used it for grinding). But I left a save open if I ever decide on going back and doing that stuff. I have to say though, the final battle was a bit of a let down, although I was probably way overpowered. And the ending cinematic was definitely underwhelming, it felt like I really didn't accomplish anything. On the positive side, I loved the battle and skill systems. And most of the enemies were cool. Overall I really enjoyed the game and the 60+ hours I put into it. Hopefully Mistwalker announces a sequel. Now on to ToV and IU!

I think it may be a universal price drop.

Thanks for posting this. I ordered LO on 8/8 (first game to break in the new system) and I'm hoping Amazon will still honor their post-order price drop refund guarantee, since I placed my order before 9/1 (they silently dropped this guarantee for all orders after 9/1/08. :( LO is still worth $59.99 (best RPG I've played this gen), but it'd be nice to have those $20 bucks for something like IU or Tales.

What do you mean? I'm sure there's a map or something online.

Actually I took the correct route and all, but at the end I turned around since I didn't see a marker or anything that indicated it was the "escape router" so I keep going in circles until I found a FAQ, read it and noticed I just had to keep going till the end of the pathway for the cutscene to trigger :lol

Gonna try and beat the game tonight after like 7 months. It kinda wore out on me on Disc 4 but I am back to beat it :D

hahah i'm in exactly the same place now. well i'm slated to go in there today and i had a pretty long break from it, though my break started on disc 2 or 3, and i won't move on to another big game until i beat it ;)

i want the damn white charm thing to drop though as i don't wanna have to go 30 more levels to beat that guy in the backyard battles.

Well, I am beating the game with my characters at level 50 or around that. Temple of Enlightenment really helped for some quick grinding. So far no problems, about to hit the last boss.

Gongora just owned me... how am I supposed to do that last fight? I am level 53. The beast battle wasn't hard, but Gongora just swept the floor with me. How am I supposed to do that fight?

Yeah level 53 against gongora would have been pretty hard.
I think you need to be at least int he 70's for a decisive win.

Really? I was in the 57's and didn't have a problem. Hell, Gongora was easier than the beast before.
