Official North American Lost Odyssey Thread

I don't think you were under leveled for that boss, you just have to learn the strategy early: Each boss has a different way to beat it, which is almost exactly like a Zelda boss-fight. For that boss, the way I beat him was by keeping two of those little guys alive so he only got a little bit of charge each time. With Jensen I was attacking the boss, and with Seth I was using shield + health regeneration for the team. Only Jensen died fighting that boss once, but that strategy worked with both of the worm things.
gotcha. Thanks guys! Really enjoying the game btw, :)

Do you guys play with English or Japanese voice-acting?

I find the English voice acting sound stupid in some cases, although I know the game was designed for English voice acting.

Is it me or does the Japanese voice acting seem more "laid back" and resembling normal speech?

Especially for Seth

We've had that question 3 or 4 times now in this thread so I'll just quote myself:
Personally I think the majority of the important characters are better in Japanese, however the English version is by no means unplayable. Japanese has the disadvantage that the lipsynch is timed for English and that the subtitles are not direct translations (and sometimes even completely different).
Seth specifically is one of the characters that I think are better in Japanese.

Alright, got to the first boss (mini-boss?) on the top of the mountain and got my ass handed twice.

When you cast Shield, does it last the entire encounter or just 1 round or what? There's nothing to indicate the character even has a shield.

Not really sure of a good strategy since my options are so limited. Any advice?

Flare bomb + flare the fuck out of it. Have Seth heal, keep Jansen alive.

Kaim isn't much of a spell caster though. His flares don't cause that much damage. He can throw some flare bombs though. Should Jansen be casting flares or mostly to heal each round?

Flare bomb is an item that should hit for about 125-135, and Jansen has flare that will hit for about 200. Kaim doesn't need to be a spellcaster. If you straight up strike with Kaim and Seth you're looking at maybe 75 pts per attack...it's silly to do that.

Don't use Jansen to heal...flare is too offensively valuable.

I'm stuck at the sorcerer's shrine (the area after the crimson forest) looking for Mack.

I'm in a room with stairwells and giant rolling boulders, with a locked door and a save point with no apparent way to proceed. Can anyone help me out here?

In the middle stairwell there is a pillar, move it out of the way, trigger a boulder and it will smash down the door.

There is a pillar on the middle staircase and you need to move it so the boulder would hit the door.

beaten :(

Go back to the city and get around 12 flare bombs, and spam them using Kaim and Seth. Use Jansen to cast flare, and have either Kaim or Seth heal when necessary. It should be a relatively quick battle with the flare bombs.

A HA! I thought so! Kaim has no earrings in the FMVs. They look so stupid in game....he looks like a woman.

edit: Second boss is easy. Just use aqua.

Those earrings you see are most likely accessories! Just take them off. I made a post about it earlier:

So I am 2h 20m into the game, Jansen is fuck awesome, I am totally digging the battle system, the battle loading isn't by any means bad, graphics are a mixed bag, mostly leaning to good, the Thousand Years story is amazing... ah... I am loving it. =)

Ah, the lovely sea vaginas. :lol

I think it's cool how there haven't been any duplicate monsters with different color sets yet as I'm up to the third disc. The monster design is totally awesome although there was a part in Disc 2 where I felt I was stuck in the ruins in PSO fighting Dark Falz minions. :lol I think it was the Black Cave.

Yea Jansen rules. He cracks me up.

Just got through
the funeral mini-game
, kinda sad, kinda frustrating. I want to keep playing, but I'm going out tonight and I don't want to find my way into a 2 hour save trap again... :\

Loving it so far, though, at about 8 hours.

Composite magic

Holy shit

I don't think I've played a jrpg that has as much visual variety as this. The game hasn't recycled ANY monsters thus far.

Hells yeah, I taught composite magic to all of my spellcasters lol. It's nice when you get lucky and hit an enemy for almost 2x its HP, but I've also had a few times when it hit for like 10 points.

=(. Can anyone share with me what it is about without spoiling anything? Like, how the gameplay is, etc.

It's a fetch quest and also has a button pressing sequence

Doesnt really do good to cast shield when you dont really have time to set up. Im just going to give you a few hints: Find a way to nullify poison at all times on Kaim and Set, and find out how to get everyone to attack fire based. Think about the weaknesses of enemies, its really important in the game. Just as important as a Megami Tensei series game.

In other words check the manual as well.

Oh and shield and other stat effects are shown when you put a casting or item cursor on a party member. You can see a blue arrow up or down with the stat next to it.

And the Funeral activity isnt as bothersome as some make it to be. You can gather the items pretty fast, and the torch section is easy as well.

I enjoyed They Live In Shells a lot.

Can that really happen? The whole eye damage senario. Also that crazy mansion really reminded me of the only other crazy mansion location i've seen that was "out of place" in the game. FFVII.

Is there anything I need to being doing early on in the game to get the various
..........Class Master.........
achievements? What exactly are they?

Where am I supposed to go after getting the Slantnose?

Also, I have a bunch of dreams filled in, but I'm missing #4 and #5. Anyone know where those are?

Got this from GameFly yesterday. I had my doubts about the game, so I was just planning on renting it for a few weeks. But after playing all day today, I clicked on the Keep It button. :D

Just out of curiosity, how much playtime should I expect from this game? I'm thinking overall, but a breakdown for each disc would be great as well. I won't be rushing through it, but I won't be trying to find every little secret in the game either. I just want an idea of how many hours of my life will be spent on the game. :)

Head to the Mountain Village Tosca towards the northeast. Also, the 4th and 5th dreams are found in the tavern in Uhra

I think 10 hours per disk would be a rough estimation not including optional quests and the occasional death.

Should I have the Sunderch Glasses by now?
I'm rescuing Mack
. I haven't been following the guide the whole way and there are a few items that are listed as requiring Sunderch Glasses to see.

LOL... are we sure that the developers of Lost Odyssey didn't consult Team Ninja on this game. I thought I wouldn't see boobs bigger then Rachel's in Ninja Gaiden. Not only do Ming's top them, but they have all kinds of veins on them! Also Seth has some of the best modeled boobs in any game.

In all seriousness though, REALLY enjoying this game. The combat, the boss challenges, the polish of the story. I just finished disk 1 with about 11 hours of playtime.

- I wish the combat screen showed the order of characters.

It doesn't do that because the order is determined by the moves. Attacks are usually quicker than magic and skills and so on. its decided on a move-by-move basis.

Seems to be some enemy AI issues. When I fought the first boss, it did the same attack on the same character every single turn for the entire battle.

I've had that happen numerous times in random encounters where all 5 or 6 enemies attack the same character. Usually always happens to Seth for some reason. very annoying.
